Abstract: Ferulic acid is a derivative of cinnamic acid with molecular formula C10H10O4. In 1886, Hlasiwetz Barth, an Austrian, isolated 3-methoxy-4-hydroxycinnamic acid from the genus Ferula foetida for structure determination. Ferulic acid together with dihydroferulic acid is a component of lignocelluloses, conferring cell wall rigidity by cross linking lignin and polysaccharides. It is commonly found in seeds of plant such as rice, wheat and oats. The poor water solubility of the isolate limits its application in food stuffs. Our novel encapsulation technology of Ferulic acid in Cyclodextrin matrix will enrich the bio availability of Ferulic acid to a greater extend.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Ferulic Acid, like many phenols exhibits antioxidant effect in response to free radicals by donating hydrogen from its phenolic hydroxyl group. Ferulic Acid is listed as "antioxidant" in the "food additives" list. The structure of Ferulic Acid is similar to tyrosine and is believed to inhibit melanin formation through competitive inhibition with tyrosine . In addition, it has been documented that Ferulic Acid demonstrated strong absorption on harmful UV-wavelength6). Recently, it has been reported that Vitamin E FeruliC Acid Ester exhibited inhibitory effect on melanin production; it is anticipated to become a potential pigmentation inhibitor. Ferulic acid has been widely used in cosmetics applications for absorbing the long UV-wavelength as sunscreen or whitening agent. The present invention relates developing a product with enhanced bio availability. Our unique process involves encapsulation of Ferulic acid in Cyclodextrin matrix.
2. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Ferulic acid is a rice polyphenolic compound and interestingly it is a source of vanillin. Ferulic acid is also used as an antioxidant, and an antimicrobial agent. It is also recognized that ferulic acid exhibits a preventive effect on discoloration in various food products and a variety of physiological functions such as suppression of Alzheimer's disease, prevention of muscular fatigue, improvement in hypertension, and antitumor activity of breast, liver, and colon. Ferulic acid is also used for cosmetics, because it exhibits UV absorption effect, whitening effect and anti-inflammatory effect. Anti-tyrosinase activity It is well-known that melanogenesis is induced by UV light and catalyzed by tyrosinase. Ferulic acid is not only effective UV absorbers, but also tyrosinase inhibitors. Ferulic acid is suggested to suppress melanin generation by antagonizing tyrosine because its chemical structure is similar to tyrosine. The ratio of tyrosinase inhibition of ferulic acid was higher than that of kojic acid. Moreover, ferulic acid suppressed dark-color pigmentation in the integument of red sea breams. The anti oxidant property of Ferulic acid helps the skin from damages caused by the attack of free radicals. Ferulic acid will scavenge the activity of free radicals. Ferulic acid also acts as uv absorber. If added to a topical preparation of ascorbic acid and vitamin E, ferulic acid may reduce oxidative stress and formation of thymine dimers in skin. There is also a small amount of research showing oral supplements of ferulic acid can inhibit melanin production in the process of skin whitening. Our present invention relates developing a product with increased bioavailability and there by increasing its scope of application. Cyclodextrin is regarded as a bio available enhancer.
3. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Our novel isolation methodology of ferulic acid will allows to reach the active component at its highest purity. Cyclodextrin molecules are relatively large with a number of hydrogen donors and acceptors and, thus, in general they do not permeate liphophilic membranes. Cyclodextrins are widely used as 'molecular cages' in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries. Beta-Cyclodextrin is used as complexing agent to increase the aqueous solubility, bioavailability and stability. Encapsulating Ferulic acid with cyclo dextrin will substantially increase the bio availability of the product. The structure of Ferulic acid and Cyclodextrin are depicted below:
