Abstract: The ban on nutritive antibiotic use in Europe and the increased awareness of the consumers triggered a need for natural and safe feed additives to achieve better production results of farm animals. Plant extracts are used in animal nutrition as appetite and digestion stimulants, stimulants of physiological functions, for prevention and treatment of certain pathological conditions, as colorants and antioxidants. Our unique formulation includes a proprietary blend of gingerol trapped in a natural turmeric matrix.
1. FIELD OF INVENTION
A NOVEL FORMUALTION AS POULTRY INGREDIENT
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Phytogenies comprise a wide range of substances and thus have been further classified according to botanical origin, processing, and composition. Phytogenic feed additives include herbs, which are non-woody flowering plants known to have medicinal properties; spices, which are herbs with intensive smell or taste. The primary mode of action of phytogenic feed additives arises from beneficially affecting the ecosystem of gastrointestinal micro biota through controlling potential pathogens. Curcuminoids in turmeric have got many benefits to be used as poultry feed additive. The highly bio active gingerol trapped in a natural matrix also increases the efficacy of the product. Our unique formulation includes curcumin and gingerol trapped in a natural turmeric matrix.
2. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
There are so many advantages of using herbs than antibiotics. Phytogenic feed additives may have the potential to promote production performance and productivity and thus add to the set of growth promoters such as organic acids and probiotics. Zingiber Officinale contain polyphenol compounds (6-gingerol and its derivatives), which have a high antioxidant activity. The use of ginger feed reduced mortalities to compared with the controls (64%). Moreover, there was a significant increase in growth, feed conversion and protein efficiency. There was proliferation in the number of neutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes, and enhanced phagocytic, respiratory burst, lysozyme, bactericidal and anti-protease activities compared with the control. Lysozyme activity is an important component in the immune system. Lysozyme is an important enzyme in the blood that actively lyses bacterial of cell wall peptidoglycans. It is also known to act as opsonin and activate the complement system and phagocytes. Supplementation of ginger significantly increased the lysozyme activity. The active components of turmeric include Curcuminoids. When compared with the synthetic antibiotics, phytochemicals in turmeric are known to be natural, less toxic, residue free, and are thought to be ideal as feed additives in animal diets. Turmeric contains 6.3% protein, 5.1% fat, 3.5% minerals, 69.4% carbohydrates, and 13.1% moisture The active ingredients of turmeric rhizomes consist of volatiles and non-volatiles constituent . The anti Clostridium activity of turmeric is found to act by following mechanisms reduced gut lesions, decreased serum toxin levels and reduced IL-8, LITAF JL-17A and IL-17F mRNA levels in the intestine, but increased cytokine/ chemokine mRNA levels in splenocytes. Our unique formulation includes a unique formulation in which gingerol and curcumin trapped in a natural turmeric matrix.
3. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Our novel extraction process of curcumin allows recovering the compound with its highest purity. Our process also involves conversion of to it's highly bio available form. The unique extraction process of gingerol from ginger is also employed. Encapsulation of curcumin and gingerol in natural turmeric matrix will increase the efficacy of the compound. The structures of the active compounds gingerol and curcumin are depicted below:
