A Novel Water Soluble Anti Oxidant Formulation

Abstract: An antimicrobial is an agent that kills microorganisms or inhibits their growth. The word antimicrobial was derived from the Greek words anti (against), mikros (little) and bids (life) and refers to all agents that act against microbial organisms. Anti oxidant is a substance that inhibits oxidation, especially one used to counteract the deterioration of stored food products. The present invention relates developing a product, which possess both the properties of anti microbial and anti oxidant. Our unique formulation involves a blend of Piperic acid and Ferulic acid.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The primary harmful effects of microbes upon our existence and civilization are that they are an important cause of disease in animals and crop plants, and they are agents of spoilage and decomposition of our foods, textiles and dwellings. Any substance that has the ability to prevent the growth of microbes is referred as anti microbial agent. Many naturally derived phytochemicals possess anti microbial properties. Piperine, the alkaloid from pepper is found to have anti microbial property. The structural derivative of piperine, Piperic acid is even more effective in treating the microbial growth. Ferulic acid derived from, rice bran oil is found to possess anti oxidant properties. Our present invention relates developing a unique formulation that possess both the properties of anti oxidant and anti microbial.

2. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Black pepper or Piper nigrum is one of the most popular spice products in oriental countries (mostly in Southeast Asia). P. nigrum is a plant of the piperaceae family, largely used as a flavouring agent in foods. Piperic acid can be prepared from the commercially-available alkaloid piperine, a cyclic amide containing a piperidine group, by reacting it with a hydroxide such as potassium hydroxide, then acidifying the formed piperate salt with hydrochloric acid or another acid. Our . novel process of preparation of piperic acid will ensure the purity of the compound. Ferulic acid is a hydroxycinnamic acid, a type of organic compound. It is an abundant phenolic phytochemical found in plant cell wall components such as arabinoxylans as covalent side chains. It is related to trans-cinnamic acid. Ferulic acid is an antioxidant which neutralizes free radicals (superoxide, nitric oxide and hydroxyl radical) which could cause oxidative damage of cell membranes and DNA. Ferulic acid helps to prevent damage to our cells caused by ultraviolet light. Exposure to ultraviolet light actually increases the antioxidant potency of ferulic acid. Ferulic acid is often added as ingredient of anti-aging supplements. The phenolic group in the compound is responsible for the anti oxidant property of ferulic acid. The unique formulation helps in delivering a highly value added product with both the properties of anti microbial and anti oxidant.

3. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The unique extraction method of isolating the active component ferulic acid from rice brail oil will ensure the product with high purity. The structure of ferulic acid is depicted below
