Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a process for preparation of silicon carbide ceramic fibers, said process comprising: (a) mixing polysilane with 0.1 to 10 wt% polyborosiloxane followed by thermolysis in an inert atmosphere to obtain polycarbosilane; (b) melt spinning the polycarbosilane to obtain polycarbosilane green fibers; (c) stretching the polycarbosilane green fibers to obtain polycarbosilane fibers; (d) heating the polycarbosilane fibers in oxidative environment for infusibilization to obtain infusibilized fibers; and (e) subjecting the infusibilised fibers to the process of pyrolysis at a temperature of 960 – 1300oC to obtain silicon carbide ceramic fibers.
