1. FieldOflnvention BACKGROUND OF INVENTION Anti- Inflammation:

Inflammatory diseases continué to be a common life style disease. There are many factors responsible for such a condition of the body. The factors may be of external and internal origin. Some of the chemicals that cause inflammation include histamine, kinins, prostaglandins, leukotrienes etc. These chemicals in addition to influencing inflammation, they also vary blood pressure, stimulate platelet aggregation, contract intestinal and uterine muscle, stimulate steroid production etc. There arise many side effects due to long time consumption of NSAID's. Plant derived anti-inflammatory drugs are gaining much importance now a days because of their less toxicity and high efficacy. Essential oils derived from plants can act as anti-inflammatory drug. This fact sheet focuses on the application of one such compound beta caryophyllene in both fat soluble and water soluble form with highest purity for the treatment of inflammatory disorders.

2. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Essential oils derived from plañís pose many medicinal properties. Beta caryophyllene is a natural bicyclic sesquiterpene that is a constituent of many essential oils especially clove oil (Cinnamomum spp), black pepper oil (Piper nigrum L), hemp, rosemary (Rosmarinus Ofjicinalis) etc. The essential oils are mainly hydrophobic in nature. Addition of suitable additives will convert these to water soluble forms. But in such a condition the percentage of active component will get reduced, thereby reducing its medicinal activity. Our unique process involves the enrichment of beta caryophyllene to its highest purity. Permitted additives are also added to convert into water soluble derivatives for good biological efficacy. The possible mechanism by which beta caryophyllene result in anti -inflammation is described below Beta caryophyllene was shown to be selective agonist of cannabinoid receptor type-2 CB2 and to exert significant cannabimimetic anti-inflammatory effects. One of the important criteria for the treatment of inflammation includes the activation of CB2 receptor. The beta Caryophyllene binds to the CP55, 940 binding site (i.e., THC binding site) of the peripheral /zCB2 cannabinoid receptor and thereby preventing the possible factor for inflammation. beta -Caryophyllene is regarded as a non psychoactive CB2 receptor ligand in food stuff and as a macrocyclic anti inflammatory drug.


3. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Beta-caryophyllene is regarded as a good anti-inflammatory drug. Unique process involves the enrichment of beta-caryophyllene to highest purity. The chemical structure of beta-caryophyllene is depicted below:

Permitted food additives are added to convert the hydrophobic essential oil to water soluble form. This will allow the drug to act in the body in an efficient way and thereby increasing the biological efficacy.
