Abstract: Our brain is regarded as the most important part of the human nervous system. There are many disorders which can happen to the brain which include neuro degenerative disorders. Many herbs are used for the treatment of neuro degenerative disorders. One Such herb of importance is Bacopa Monnieri. Our present invention relates developing a herbal extract of Bacopa Monnieri with enriched Bacosides content and without bitter taste. The herbal extract can be used for the overall well being of brain health.
1. FIELD OF INVENTION:
NOVEL PROCESS/PRODUCT FOR ENHANCING BACCOSIDES
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION:
Bacopa monnieri is a perennial, creeping herb native to the wetlands of southern India, Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and South America. Bacopa is considered as an important medicinal herb used in Ayurveda, where it is also known as "Brahmi," Bacopa has traditionally been employed as a neurological tonic and cognitive enhancer. Brahmi's role against several neurological diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and schizophrenia are also reported. Bacosides are the chief chemical constituent of the Brahmi, which is responsible for the potential health benefits of the herb. The content of bacosides determines the efficacy of the drug. Our unique product involves the enrichment of bacosides upto 50%. The novel extraction process involves extraction and purification of the active components.
2. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
Brahmi, or Bacopa monnieri, is a therapeutic plant used in Ayurveda for many purposes. The best characterized compounds in Bacopa monnieri are identified as dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins known as bacosides, with jujubogenin or pseudo-jujubogenin moieties as aglycone units. Bacosides comprise a family of 12 known analogs. Other saponins called bacopasides I-XII have been identified more recently. The alkaloids brahmine, nicotine, and herpestine have been catalogued, along with D-mannitol, apigenin, hersaponin, monnierasides I-III, cucurbitacin and plantainoside B. The constituent most studied has been bacoside A, which was found to be a blend of bacoside A3, bacopacide II, bacopasaponin C, and a jujubogenin isomer of bacosaponin C. The main health benefit of the Bacopa includes memory enhancing property. There are many neurodegenerative disorders which include Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and schizophrenia. The antioxidants present in Bacopa helps in protecting against the neural oxidative stress associated with Alzheimer's disease. It also play an important role in stimulating the brain's own chemicals that protect neural cells. Basicode A, One of the active compounds in Brahmi, has shown to combat the brain changes associated with epilepsy. It seems to protect areas of the brain responsible for serotonin uptake and helps balance of the neurotransmitter.
3. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
Our unique extraction process involves the extraction of bacosides and further enrichment of the active component. The unique extraction method allows us to reduce the bitter taste of the extract there by increasing the scope of the application in the foods and beverages.
