Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a Surge Protection Device (SPD) (100) for a luminaire (200). The surge protection device (100) includes a first portion (10) and a second portion (20). The first portion (10) is defined with an inlet passage (14) for accommodating an input cable (11) from a power source and includes a circuit board (13) connected to the input cable (11). The second portion (20) includes a sealing cap to seal the first portion (10) and is defined with an outlet projection (27) for connecting an output cable (21) to the luminaire (200). The first portion (10) and the second portion (20) are sealed together to form an interference fit between the first portion (10) and the second portion (20). The surge protection device (100) may be connected externally to luminaire (200) in-line with the power cable of the luminaire (200). Figure 1a is a representative figure.
We Claim:
1. A Surge Protection Device (SPD) (100) for a luminaire (200), the SPD (100) comprising:
a first portion (10) defined with an inlet passage (14) for accommodating an input cable (11) from a power source and includes a circuit board (13) connected to the input cable (11); and
a second portion (20) including a sealing cap to seal the first portion (10) and defined with an outlet projection (27) for connecting an output cable (21) to the luminaire (200),
wherein, the first portion (10) and the second portion (20) are sealed together to form an interference fit between the first portion (10) and the second portion (20).
2. The SPD (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the SPD (100) is provisioned external to the luminaire (200) and in line with the luminaire (200).
3. The SPD (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first portion (10) is defined with a plurality of circular lips (17) on its peripheral body to facilitate sealing of the first portion (10) with the second portion (20).
4. The SPD (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the circuit board (13) is a Printed Circuit Board (PCB).
5. The SPD (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the circuit board (13) includes a plurality of terminal connectors (15) to connect with a plurality of terminal wires (23) of the output cable (21) configured to supply power supply to the luminaire (200).
6. The SPD (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the outlet projection (27) is defined with a plurality of threads (29) to fasten a cable gland (30) and connect the output cable (21) with the second portion (20).
7. The SPD (100) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the plurality of terminal wires (23) is plugged into the plurality of terminal connectors (15) and fastened with a plurality of fasteners (19).
