Abstract: The present invention relates to a curable rubber composition comprising a rubber component, a biobased organosulfur, and at least a filler, wherein the biobased organosulfur comprises diallyldisulfide (DADS) having GCMS area % in the range of 45-50wt%. The biobased organosulfur additive enhances the cut & chip resistance of tyre tread comprising the curable rubber composition, while at the same time without negatively affecting the RRc of the tyre tread. I/We Claim:
1. A curable rubber composition comprising:
a. a rubber component in an amount of 100phr;
5 b. at least a filler in an amount in the range of 30-70phr; and
c. a biobased organosulfur in an amount in the range of 1-10phr, wherein the
biobased organosulfur comprises diallyldisulfide (DADS) having GCMS area
% in the range of 38-57%.
10 2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein diallyldisulfide (DADS) GCMS area
% is in the range of 45-50%.
3. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the biobased organosulfur comprises
2-([2-(Octane-1-sulfonyl)ethyl]sulfanyl)ethanol having GCMS area % in the range of
15 25-30%.
4. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein biobased organosulfur is present in
an amount in the range of 3-7phr.
20 5. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein said filler is a carbon black filler
characterized by having NSA in the range of 75-145m2
/g; and OAN in the range of
100-140ml/100g.
6. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rubber component is selected
25 from the group consisting of natural rubber, at least a synthetic rubber, and
combinations thereof.
7. A cured rubber composition comprising a curable rubber composition as claimed in
claim 1 and a curing composition in an amount in the range of 2-3.5 phr.
8. The composition as claimed in claim 7, wherein the curing composition is in an
amount in the range of 2.2-2.8 phr.
5 9. The composition as claimed in claim 7, wherein the curing composition comprises
sulfur; at least one of a sulfenamide accelerator, a thiuram accelerator; and at least a
retarder.
10. A method of preparing a cured rubber composition as claimed in claim 7, comprising:
10 a. masticating a rubber component for at least 30 secs at 55-65 rpm;
b. adding at least a first part of at least a filler; at least a cure activator; and at
least a biobased organosulfur;
c. ramping the temperature to a temperature in the range of 140 - 150°C at a rate
of 3-5°C/min and mixing for 50-75 seconds at 60-80 rpm/min;
15 d. preparing sheets of the mixture having thickness in the range of 2-2.5 mm;
e. allowing the sheets to mature for at least 18 hours, and mixing the first masterbatch compound; at least a second part of at least a filler; and at least an antidegradant for a time-period of 3-4 min to the sheets after maturation; and
f. allowing the sheets of step (e) to mature for a further 24 hours, and mixing the
20 second master batch compound and curatives for a time-period of 3 min to 3
min 30 sec to obtain a final mixture, followed by dumping the final mixture
at 93-97 °C to obtain the cured rubber composition.
