Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present disclosure relates to tear film analysis, and more particularly relates to a method and a system for determining tear-breakup time.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] Dry eye disease (DED) is increasingly recognized as a prevalent issue af-fecting millions of people globally. The DED occurs when there is insufficient lubrication on the surface of the eye, often leading to discomfort, irritation, and potential damage to the ocular surface. A tear film, which is composed of a lipid, aqueous, and mucin layer, serves as a protective barrier to the cornea, ensuring comfort, clear vision, and protection from environmental factors. The tear breakup refers to the moment when the tear film becomes unstable, leading to the for-mation of dry spots on the corneal surface.
[003] Computing Tear Breakup Time (TBUT) is one of the most critical methods for assessing dry eye conditions. The TBUT is a measure of the stability of the tear film, which plays a vital role in diagnosing the , Claims:WE CLAIM:

identifying (406), using an Artificial Intelligence model, a first appearance of a breakup pattern in the concentric rings patterns, caused by a breakup of a tear film on the external surface of the subject’s eyeball; and
determining (408) the tear-breakup time based on a timestamp associated with a frame of the video at the first appearance of the breakup pattern and a timestamp associated with a previous blink of a subject’s eyelid, from the captured video.
