The present invention specifically relates to Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) compositions of Malathion in higher concentration.

The present invention specifically relates to Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) compositions of Malathion in higher concentration and other agrochemical auxiliaries.

The present invention specifically relates to Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) compositions of Malathion in higher concentration, comprising one or more emulsifiers, optionally additional adjuvants, stabilisers and fillers/solvent.

The present invention specifically relates to Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) compositions of Malathion in higher concentration, comprising one or more Blend of anionic & nonionic surfactants, optionally additional adjuvants, stabilisers and fillers/solvent.

The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) compositions of Malathion in higher concentration, comprising one or more emulsifiers, adjuvants and solvent/filler by mixing all the ingredients under stirring and homogenizing the resultant mixture.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Malathion is an organophosphate insecticide which acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that has been registered for use in the United States since 1956. The chemically Malathion is diethyl 2-dimethoxyphosphinothioylsulfanylbutanedioate, having the structure shown below:

Malathion is a non-systemic insecticide, acaricide with contact, stomach & respiratory action on crops, stored pests. Malathion controls household and public health insects/pests viz., Flies, mosquitoes, Cockroaches, bedbugs, ants etc and stored grain pests in warehouses, stores, flies, midges, in animal houses. The product is also used in controlling scairid and phorid flies in Mushrooms, etc, sucking and chewing insects and spider & mites in a wide range of crops, including fruits, vines, vegetables, ornamentals, tea, rice, cotton , hops, and glass house crops. in accordance with climatic conditions and approval of local authorities.

Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulations usually contain an oil-soluble liquid active ingredient, a petroleum-based solvent, and an emulsifier (mixing agent). The emulsifier allows the active ingredient in the solvent to mix with water, this form an emulsion. ECs are versatile formulations that can be applied with many types of sprayers. EC formulations are Easy to handle and measure. EC formulations are simple to manufacture, exhibit good chemical stability, which results in spontaneous emulsification upon dilution. Very little agitation is required to mix them with water, and will not separate. Very little visible residue will be left on the plant, and seldom leaves visible residue.

Emulsifiable concentrate (EC) are versatile formulations that can be applied with many types of sprayers. EC compositions enable spontaneous emulsification upon dilution and are easy to handle and measure.

Some of the marketed EC products contain Malathion Tech (based on 95%w/w a.i.) 52.80%w/w, Stabilizer (1.00%w/w), Emulsifiers (5.00%w/w) and Solvents 41.20%w/w.

CN 101606517 B discloses pesticide emulsifiable concentrate preparation which comprises 1-70 % of pesticide active ingredients, 0-8 % of stabilizer, 1-25 % of co-solvent, 5-20 % of emulsifier and the balance of plant source solvent, wherein the plant source solvent is one or more of alpha-pinene, D-limonene and Jatropha curcas oil methyl.

However, the Malathion products in higher concentration of Active are not reported / disclosed hitherto. The inventors of the present invention have surprisingly found EC compositions of Malathion containing higher percentages of Active have far more better efficacy than the products that are being currently marketed. Further, the product of the present invention stable over shelf life and is easily mixable, provide spontaneous emulsification upon dilution.
