DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The system for providing restaurant related services will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which do not limit the scope and ambit of the invention. The description provided is purely by way of example and illustration.
Today's restaurant hospitality industry with an increasing customer base and high operational costs faces various challenges in keeping customers satisfied. Along with these challenges, the restaurant hospitality industry is also faced with remote fake service requests which not only add to the delay in serving customers but also leads to economic losses. Hence, to overcome these drawbacks and assist the restaurant hospitality industry in keeping customers satisfied and exercising control of costs involved, the present invention envisages a system for providing restaurant related services.
The proposed system remotely provides the customers with a searchable interface which displays to them a list of registered restaurants and a list of services provided by them. The customers can place their service requests with a particular restaurant using their handheld telecommunication device and using formats including SMS, Email and GPRS.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, the services provided by the proposed System is not restricted to a particular city where a customer is residing but enables customers to avail services of restaurants located in other cities as w§H. For instance, if a customer is based out of Mumbai but has a meeting in Delhi, he can remotely search and select a restaurant in a particular area in Delhi based on his requirements, order food with the selected restaurant and notify the restaurant to book a table and keep the

food order ready at a designated time. Thus, customers can conveniently place their orders ahead of time to reduce waiting time at the restaurant.
The system, in accordance with the present invention, enables customers to remotely access and avail services provided by restaurants. This system comprises an application embedded in a handheld device associated with a customer. The embedded application co-operates with a remote web server to enable display of a multimedia based searchable interface which enables customers to select a restaurant, then browse through its services and raise a service request. The service request is forwarded to a remote printer located in the selected restaurant which prints the order for the restaurant and sends a confirmation back to the remote web server.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, services provided by the proposed invention include dine-in service, take away food service, food home delivery service, table reservation service, special food service, banquet booking service, lodging service and payment service. These services are provided to customers via a service guide menu which lists all the services along with their prices for customer selection. For instance, for take away food service, the menu lists the food items along with their description, ingredients, spice indicator and the prices. A detailed menu is provided so that the customers face no problem in selecting food items using their handheld devices. Along with the regular menu the proposed invention also broadcasts advertisements and promotions offered in restaurants like happy hours, special food festivals, discounts or the like on the handheld devices to attract customers.

In accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, the application embedded on the handheld device presents at least one of an icon, a menu, a grid, a tree, a voice, a touch screen based interface capable of connecting to a repository hosted at the remote web server through Internet connectivity. The interface presents services and their service guides or menus to customers for selection.
Once customers select on a particular service on their handheld device, a service request is generated which is transmitted to the remote web server which logs the details and sends it to the selected restaurant. At the restaurant, the remote GPRS printer receives the order, prints the order and generates a confirmation feedback. This confirmation feedback is sent back to the corresponding customer via the remote web server.
In accordance with still another aspect of the present invention, the web server provides a web based user interface to the restaurant staff to enable them to upload their latest service guides, price revisions, promotions and the like. The interface also enables the restaurant staff to send additional information to customers along with the confirmation feedback generated from the GPRS printer such as table availability, food preparation time, banquet availability, shortest route to reach the restaurant and the like. For instance, if a customer raises a service request for banquet booking and in the service request specifies the number of PAX, event date, food layout and food preferences then the remote GPRS printer receives and prints the request for the particular restaurant and generates a confirmation feedback. In addition to this confirmation feedback, the banquet manager of the designated restaurant unit can send a total price for booking the banquet

along with the booking policy via the remote web server's interface. Alternatively, the banquet manager sends pictures of the banquet hall or informs the customers that the banquet hall is booked for the requested date and sends an availability chart for the banquet and the like.
In accordance with a further aspect of the present invention, the proposed system on demand presents a graphical layout of a restaurant to customers to enable them to see for instance, the seating layout of the restaurant to select a table at a particular location or to select a particular banquet hall or to select a particular room. The graphical layout helps customers to view the arrangement of tables, banquet halls and accordingly raise a service request.
In accordance with one more aspect of the present invention, the application embedded on the handheld device presents the map of the country where the customer is located. The country information is automatically identified using the information from the network service provider or is manually input by the customer on registration. On displaying the map of the country the customer manoeuvres using the navigation keys on the handheld device or touch screen interface to locate the state in which the customer wants to find a restaurant to place an order. On selecting the state, the map of the state is expanded on the customer's handheld device's display screen. Then the customer again manoeuvres to find the city of his interest subsequently to find a restaurant, After the city has been selected a list of all restaurants registered for this service are displayed on the screen of the handheld device. The customer can either scroll through the entire displayed list or a search interface is provided to search a specific hotel in specific area in the selected city based on the criteria including cuisine, style of serving food and rating

Thus, the present invention presents a one-stop solution for customers to avail services provided by restaurants and receive a confirmation from the restaurants on the same. Thereby, the proposed invention reduces customer waiting time and increases customer satisfaction by providing a prompt response to services requested by them.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, FIGURE 1 illustrates a schematic representation of the system 100 for providing restaurant related services. The system comprises a plurality of handheld devices 102 generally represented by X1 to Xn having an embedded application which co-operates with a remote web server 116 via a data communication channel and which in turn communicates with a plurality of illustrates remote printers 1301 to 130 located at restaurants.
