Description:The following specification describes and ascertains the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:
Field of the invention
[0001] This disclosure relates to a light assmebly in a household appliance.
Background of the invention
[0002] A variety of lighting/illumination schemes exist for refrigerated appliances. Because the refrigerated spaces are substantially enclosed, illumination is needed to allow the user to visually identify the contents of those spaces. However, the lighting devices used in conventional refrigerators are located in the central parts of the ceilings, on the inner back walls, etc. A single door refrigerator uses separate light assembly and cover on freezer frame. The light assembly is mounted on the inner side of the freezer frame. Moreover, a cover is mounted outer side of freezer frame. This arrangement requires three tools to be developed for lighting solution that includes light housing, light cover for assembly and light cover for freezer frame. The present invention provides a solution to eliminate the light cover for the freezer frame thus reducing the cost of the overall product.
[0003] A patent application US20160178275A1 discloses a domestic cooling appliance with a specific receptacle for a light module. The domestic cooling appliance includes a receiving space for foodstuffs which is delimited by walls and an illuminating device for illuminating the receiving space. One wall has at least one receptacle for a light module of the illuminating device. The receptacle is spaced further from the receiving space than an inner side facing the receiving space of a wall region of the one wall adjacent the receptacle.
Brief description of the invention:
[0004] It is an object of the invention to provide a light assembly in a household appliance.
[0005] The objects are solved by a light assmebly in a household appliance having the features according to claims 1 and 7.
[0006] The invention relates to a household appliance. The appliance comprises at least one compartment for storing multiple items. The appliance comprises a light assembly having a light source. The light assembly comprises a frame fitted to the light source. The frame acts as a cover to the light source and a supporting fixture to the light assembly while assembling the light assembly to the at least one compartment.
[0007] A feature of this invention is that, the frame comprises a first portion and a second portion, the first portion acts as the cover to the light source and the second portion acts as the supporting fixture.
[0008] Another feature of this invention is that, the second portion is bent at an angle from the first portion, such that the second portion comes in line with a portion of the at least one compartment.
[0009] Another feature of this invention is that, the first portion comprises a cut-section for accommodating the light source.
[0010] Another feature of this invention is that, the frame and the light source is made as a single component.
[0011] Another feature of this invention is that, the second portion comprises a cut-section corresponding to a cut-section of the at least one compartment, such that, the frame is fitted to the at least one compartment using at least one fitting technique.
[0012] Another feature of this invention is that, the second portion comes into contact with an outer portion of the at least one compartment when the light source along with the frame is assembled to the at least one compartment.
[0013] With the above disclosed a light assembly in the household appliance 10, additional component like cover for the compartment can be elimited. As the frame works both as the cover for the light source and as the supporting fixture for the compartment. Multiple assembling process in order to fix the light assembly in the appliance is avoided as the new design of the light assembly comes as a single component. With the disclosed light assembly, the overall cost of assembly and the component is reduced, thus providing a low-cost effective solution.

An embodiment of the disclosure is described with reference to the following accompanying drawings.
[0014] Figure 1 illustrates a light assembly in a household appliance, in accordance with an embodiment of this invention; and
[0015] Figure 2 illustrates the light assembly in a household appliance, in accordance with an embodiment of this invention.
Detailed description of the embodiments
[0016] Figure 1 illustrates a light assembly in a household appliance, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention. The appliance 10 comprises at least one compartment 12 for storing multiple items. The appliance 10 comprises a light assembly 14 having a light source 16. The light assembly 14 comprises a frame 18 fitted to the light source 16. The frame 18 acts as a cover to the light source 16 and a supporting fixture to the light assembly 14 while assembling the light assembly 14 to the at least one compartment 12.
[0017]Further , the construction of the appliance 10 and the light assembly 14 in the appliance 10 is explained in detail. According to one embodiment of the invention, the appliance 10 is a refrigerator. The appliance 10 is chosen from a group of appliances comprising a single door refrigerator, a mutli-door refrigerator and the like. The appliance comprises mutliple compartments 12 like a refrigerator compartment and a freezer compartment. According to one embodiment of the invention, the compartment 12 is a freezer compartment. However, it is not restricted to a refrigerator, but can be any other appliance like microwave oven and the like, where a light assembly is used for illuminating the interior space of the appliance 10. The light source 16 and the frame 18 together makes the light assembly 14.
[0018] The frame 18 comprises a first portion 20 and a second portion 22, wherein the first portion 20 acts as the cover to the light source 16 and the second portion 22 acts as the supporting fixture. The second portion 22 is bent at an angle from the first portion 20, such that the second portion 22 comes in line with a portion 24 of the at least one compartment 12.
[0019]The angle between the first portion 20 and the second portion 22 is made as per the requirement. But it is to be understood that, the angle is not restricted to one particular number, but can be any angle that makes the second portion 22 in line with a portion 24 of at least one comparmtent 12.
[0020] The first portion 20 comprises a cut-section 26 for accommodating the light source 16. The dimensions of the cut-section 26 is made according to the dimensions of the light source 16. According to one embodiment of the invention, the frame 18 and the light source 16 is made as a single component to form the light assembly 14.
[0021] According to one embodiment of the invention, the frame 18 is fitted to a poriton 24 of the at least one compartment 12 using at least one fitting technique. When the frame 18 is fitted to the at least one compartment 12, the second portion 22 of the frame 18 comes into contact with an outer portion 24 of the at least one compartment 12. For fitting the frame 18 to the at least one comparmtent 12, the second portion 22 comprises a cut-section 28 corresponding to a cut-section 30 of the at least one compartment 12. The cut-section 30 present on the compartment 12 receives the corresponding cut-section 28 present on the second portion 22 of the frame 18, such that, the light assembly 14 is fitted to the compartment 12 using a snap fit technique. It is to be understood for a person skilled in the art that, the fitting techniques can be of any other techniques like screw fit, fasterner and the like.
[0022] A method of assembling the light assembly 14 in the appliance 10 is explained in detail. The light source 16 and the frame 18 are fitted together to form the light assembly 14. The light source 16 is fitted on the first portion 20 of the frame 18 and the second portion 22 is bent at an angle to form like a supporting fixture for the light assembly 14. As mentioned earlier, according to one embodiment of the invention, the light assembly 14 is fitted in the appliance 10, in such way that, the second portion 22 of the frame 18 comes in line with the portion of the at least one compartment 12.
[0023] Figure 2 illustrates the light assembly in a household appliance, in accordance with an embodiment of this invention . According to another method of assembling, the cut-section 28 present on the second portion 22 of the frame 18 is fitted into a cut-section 30 present on the outer portion 24 of the at least one compartment 12, such that, the light assembly 14 is fitted in the appliance 10 using only one assembling method.
[0024] With the above disclosed a light assembly in the household appliance 10, additional component like cover for the compartment can be elimited.
[0025] It should be understood that embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this disclosure. Many such embodiments and other modifications and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
