[0019] Figure 2 illustrates an evaporator in a household appliance, in accordance with an embodiment of this invention.

Detailed description of the embodiments
[0020] Figure 1 illustrates an additional shelf in an evaporator of a household appliance in a household appliance, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention. The appliance 10 comprises at least one refrigerant flow circuit 12 arranged spaced apart in the appliance 10. The appliance 10 further comprises an evaporator 14 having the at least one refrigerant flow circuit 12. The evaporator 14 comprises an additional shelf 16 formed in an interior region 18 of the evaporator 14 for storing at least one refrigeration item 20.

[0021]Further , the construction of the appliance 10 and the components of the appliance 10 is explained in detail. According to one embodiment of the invention, the appliance 10 is a refrigerator. The appliance 10 is chosen from a group of appliances comprising a single door refrigerator, a mutli-door refrigerator and the like. The refrigerant flow circuit 12 comprises a refrigerant that is flowing across the appliance 10 which undergoes various stages for providing cooling inside the appliance 10.
[0022]The refrigerant when passed through the flow circuits 12 present in the evaporator 14 provides a direct cooling effect , such that, the items 20 stored in the appliance 10 are cooled using the refrigerant. According to one embodiment of the invention, the evaporator 14 acts as a freezer compartment in a single door appliance 10. The at least one refrigerant flow cirucits 12 are positioned across the evaporator 14 and are spaced apart for ease of flowing of the refrigerant and for effective heat absorption. According to another embodiment, the evaporator 14 having the flow circuits 12 is positioned in a freezer compartment of the appliance 10.

[0023]According to one embodiment of the invention, the additional shelf 16 is formed as an integral part of the evaporator 14 and the at least one refrigerant flow circuit 12 is positioned in the additional shelf 16 for direct cooling. The additional shelf 16 design as shown in the figure 1 is made in such a way that, at least one refrigeration item 20 is stored inside the shelf 16 with ease. Ie., The dimensions of the shelf 16 is made corresponding to the dimensions of the at least one refrigeration item 20, wherein one such refrigeration item 20 is an ice tray. The length and width of the additonal shelf 16 is made according to the dimensions of the ice tray 20 such that, more than one ice tray 20 can be stored inside the additonal shelf 16.

[0024]As shown in the figure 1 , it is to be noted that, the addditonal shelf 16 can be made attached to an upper surface of the evaporator 14 . However, it is to be noted that, the additonal shelf 16 can be made attached to a down surface of the evaporator 14. In the later arrangment, the user can store the other items 20 (apart from the ice trays) above the additonal shelf 16. The additional shelf 161 is made of same material like the evaporator 14 (eg: Aluminium) and is not restricted to one shape as shown in the figure 1. In this arrangment the evaporator 14 and the additional shelf 16 are made to form in a roll bond shape for accommodating the at least one refrigeration item 20.

[0025]Due to the presence of the additonal shelf 16 in the evaporator 14, an unused area inside the evaporator 14 is effectively used as it provides an additional storage space 22. The additional storage space 22 is formed in the interior region 18 of the evaporator 14 for storing at least one refrigeration item 20.

[0026] Figure 2 illustrates an evaporator in a household appliance, in accordance with an embodiment of this invention.According to the embodiment of the invention, the evaporator 14 is made in the form of a S-shape for accommodating the at least one refrigerator item 20. A partition 23 is formed in the evaporator 14 due to the S-shape ,such that, the evaporator 14 is divided into multiple portions 24 for storing the at least one refrigeration item 20.According to one embodiment of the invention, the evaporator 14 is divided into two portions (24(a),24(b)) due to partition 23. However it is to be noted that, the evaporator 14 shape is not restricted to S-shape but can be of any other shape that forms multiple storing portions 24 . At least one refrigerant flow circuit 12 is made to pass through the partition 23 for providing direct cooling to the items 20 stored inside the mutliple portions 24 of the evaporator 14.

[0027]The S-shaped evaporator 14 comprises two straight side surfaces 26 and two bended side surfaces 28. In the above design, a straight the side surface 26 of one porton 24 is made to be in contact with a bended side surface 28 of another portion 24. For instance, if two portions 24 of said evaporator 14 are referred as a first portion 24 (a) and a second portion 24(b), wherein the first portion 24(a) being on the top and the second portion 24(b) being on the bottom. The first portion 24(a) comprises one straight side surface 26(a) and a bended side surface 28(a) and the second portion 24(b) comprises one straight side surface 26(b) and a bended side surface 28(b).

[0028]In the above disclosed design, the straight side surface 26(a) of first portion 24(a) is made in contact with the bended side surface 26(a) of the second portion 24(b) and the bended side surface 26(b) of the first portion 24(a) is made in contact with the straight side surface 28(a) of the second portion 24(b). Due to this kind of arrangment, all the side surfaces (26,28) are sealed and there wont be any gap formed between the portions 24 of the evaporator 14.

[0029] According to one embodiment of the invention, the evaporator 14 comprises an additional shelf (not shown) in each of the portions24 for storing at least one refrigeration item 20. Small refrigeration items 20 like medicines can be stored in the additonal shelf made in each of the portions 24 of the evaporator 14. The mutliple portions 24 and the respective additonal shelfs comprises at least one refrigerant flow circuit 12 for providing the direct cooling to the items 20 stored in the evaporator 14.

[0030]A method of working of the above disclosed evaporator 14 is explained in detail. As known in the state of art, the evaporator14 removes the heat from the items 20 stored in the interior region 18 by using the refrigerant flow circuits 12. The refrigerant present in the flow circuits 12 evaporates from a liquid form back into a gaseous form. As the refrigerant turns from a liquid into a gas through evaporation, it cools the area around it (inside region 18 of evaporator 14), producing the proper environment for storing items 20.The user can store multiple items 20 along with the regular ice trays in the evaporator 14, as there are additoinal shelf 16 and multiple portions 24 available with the above disclosed designs. Due to the position of the refrigerant flow circuits 12 in the evaporator 14 and in the additoinal shelfs 16, partition 23, multiple portions 24, a direct cooling is provided to the items 20 that are stored in the evaporator 14.

[0031] With the above disclosed additional shelf 16 in the evaporator 14 of the household appliance 10, the user can store more items 20 as an additional storage space 22 is formed due to the new design. The evaporator 14 which acts as a freezer compartment in the appliance 10 allows the user to store the icetrays in the additional shelf 16 and other items 2- that needs refrigeration in the additional space 22. The other shape (which is S-shape) of the evaporator 14 allows formation of multiple portions 24 for storing the items 20 that needs refrigeration.

[0032]These new designs of the evaporator 14 not only provides direct cooling to the items 20 as the refrigeration circuits 12 are made to pass through the layers of the evaporator 14. but also provides increases the storing capacity when compared to an evaporator 14 of a conventional appliance. The above disclosed designs of evaporator 14 provides a low-cost solution and an effective utilization of freezer space.

[0033] It should be understood that embodiments explained in the description above are only illustrative and do not limit the scope of this disclosure. Many such embodiments and other modifications and changes in the embodiment explained in the description are envisaged. The scope of the invention is only limited by the scope of the claims.
