Description:TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of wheels used in mechanized vehicles. In particular, the present disclosure relates to tractor wheels, more particularly, to a lug for tractor wheels that is used for assembling a disc of the tractor wheel with a corresponding rim.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] A wheel for tractors, like wheels of other vehicles, includes a rim, and a disc that is attached to the rim. However, typically, coupling of the disc to the rim in a tractor wheel is through a plurality of threaded fasteners. The rim includes multiple lugs welded to the rim, where the disc includes multiple mounting holes, and threaded fasteners, such as bolts that are inserted through the mounting holes in the disc, and corresponding holes in the lugs of the rim so as to mount the disc with the rim to form a complete wheel assembly.
[0004] The lugs typically include one or more U-shaped portions, each defining a hole to receive threaded fasteners to fasten the disc, and the rim. The lugs themselves are fixed to an inner circumference of the rim, such as by welding, which is done at a flange portion of the lugs that extend from the U-shaped portions.
[0005] As can be understood, in a lug configured for recieving two or more threaded fasteners, an inner flange connecting two U shaped portions, prevents application of a paint covering on the rim that may result into corrosion of the rim. It would therefore be advantageous if it were possible to provide a solution that enables covering of the rim surface by protective coating against corrosion .
[0006] There is therefore a need to provide a simple, and cost effective solution that ensures application of protective coating over surface of the rim under the inner flange of the lug.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0024] The following is a detailed description of embodiments of the disclosure depicted in the accompanying drawings. The embodiments are in such detail as to clearly communicate the disclosure. However, the amount of detail offered is not intended to limit the anticipated variations of embodiments; on the contrary, the intention is to cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternatives falling within the spirit and scope of the present disclosure as defined by the appended claims.
[0025] Each of the appended claims defines a separate invention, which for infringement purposes is recognized as including equivalents to the various elements or limitations specified in the claims. Depending on the context, all references below to the "invention" may in some cases refer to certain specific embodiments only. In other cases it will be recognized that references to the "invention" will refer to subject matter recited in one or more, but not necessarily all, of the claims.
[0026] The present disclosure pertains to a lug for receiving at least two threaded fasteners for assembling a disc of a wheel with a corresponding rim, where the lug comprises at least two U-shaped portions, each of the at least two U-shaped portions being configured to receive one of the at least two threaded fasteners. Further, at least one inner flange portions extends between the two U-shaped portions, and two outer flange portions extend on outer side of outermost of the at least two U-shaped portions. The at least one inner flange portion, and the at least two outer flange portions are configured to be fixed to an inner circumference of the rim. The lug incorporates at least one rib that is provided on the one inner flange portion, and the rib extending between the two adjacent U-shaped portions.
[0027] In an embodiment, the rib comprises an inner hollow forming a tunnel between the two adjacent U-shaped portions that allows percolation of a fluid between the lug, and the inner surface of the rim.
[0028] FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary perspective view of the proposed lug for receiving two threaded fasteners that are used for assembling a disc of a wheel with a corresponding rim, the lug being itself fixed to the rim of the wheel nad the threaded fasteners engages with threaded holes in the disc to hold the rim and the disc together.
[0029] As illustrated, a lug 100 includes two U-shaped portions 102, each of the two U-shaped portions 102 is configured to receive one of the threaded fasteners. The one inner flange portion 104 extends between the two U-shaped portions 102, and two outer flange portions 106 extend on outer side of the two U-shaped portions 102. The inner flange portion 104 and the two outer flange portions 106 are configured to be fixed to an inner circumference of the rim 108. The lug 100 may include at least one rib 110 that is provided on the inner flange portion 104 extending between the two adjacent U-shaped portions 102.
[0030] In an embodiment, the rib 110 includes an inner hollow that forms a tunnel between the two adjacent U-shaped portions 102. The tunnel allows percolation of a fluid between the lug 100 and the inner surface of the rim 108. The fluid may be any or a combination of a pigmented liquid, liquefiable, or solid mastic composition that is configured to form a solid layer so as to protect the rim 108 of the tractor wheel from corrosion. Furthermore, the rib 110 provides stiffness to the entire inner flange portion 104 of the lug against the bending moments. Therefore, the rib 110 improves the fatigue life of the lug.
[0031] In another embodiment, the rib 110 can have different cross-sections, such as, a rectangular cross-section, a semi circular cross-section, and a triangular cross-section. The lug may be configured to be coupled with the rim 108 of the tractor by welding, such as by spot welding.
[0032] FIG. 2 is a cross sectioned view of the lug 100 fixed to the rim 108. The cross section shows the rib that defines a tunnel between the lug 100 and surface of the rim 108. The fluid used to provide the protective coating to the wheel can enter the tunnel from the ends that open in the U-shaped portions and percolate sideways to cover the surface of the rim, which lies under the lug 100, as well as the inner surface of the lug 100 to provide a protective coating to prevent corrosion of the rim 108 and the lug 100.
[0033] FIG. 3 shows a tractor wheel having a plurality of lugs, such as 100-1 and 100-2, fixed to the rim 108. Each lug 100 can receive two threaded fasteners, such as screws/bolts that are received in corresponding holes in the disc 302 to hold the rim 108 and the disc 302 together.
[0034] Thus, the present disclosure provides a simple, and cost effective solution that ensures application of protective coating to rim portion covered under the inner flange of the lug.
[0035] While the foregoing describes various embodiments of the invention, other and further embodiments of the invention may be devised without departing from the basic scope thereof. The scope of the invention is determined by the claims that follow. The invention is not limited to the described embodiments, versions or examples, which are included to enable a person having ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention when combined with information and knowledge available to the person having ordinary skill in the art.
