DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION:

The present invention relates to the Packaging industry for void filling and goods protection in e-commerce packaging. More particularly, it relates to an electronic device used to make bubble impressions on paper to provide cushioning to packed goods.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:

The e-commerce industry has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, revolutionizing the way of shopping. With the rise of online retail, packaging plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of products to customers. Adequate goods transport management has become a strategic issue on the agendas of firms and administrations as it contributes to reduced costs and improved services. The packaging used in the online retail industry has to achieve a balance between protection, efficiency, and cost. Usually, cushioning materials are used to protect fragile items from shocks, vibrations, and impacts during shipping. They absorb and distribute the impact energy generated during transportation, preventing damage to the products. Common cushioning materials include foam inserts, air-filled pillows, bubble wrap etc.
Air bubble wrap provides the best possible protection for delicate, fragile, sensitive, or quickly breakable (oddly-shaped) products against scratches, dents, breakage, and any type of damage caused by excessive vibrations and shocks during shipping. Bubble wrap being light and practically weightless, does not add to the weight of the parcels. Furthermore, it is convenient to use as it readily wraps around the items that needs protection. Because of the plastic's elasticity, the air bubbles would firmly cover vulnerable areas, forming tight protective bundles.
The use of plastics in e-commerce packaging has been prevalent due to their affordability and versatility. However, this convenience comes at a cost to the environment, particularly in the form of packaging waste. After serving its purpose in protecting goods, plastic bubble wrap being non-biodegradable material, often ends up in landfills or worse in the natural environment by polluting oceans and harming marine life, clogging up the gut of animals if they accidently ingest it. Another task is recycling or proper disposing of bubble wrap. Although being aware of the hazards of plastic use, individuals are unable to capitalize on the potential to develop an easy system for recycling plastic garbage. Shifting towards sustainable alternatives is crucial to reduce plastic waste and mitigate the ecological consequences of e-commerce packaging.
The world wants a sustainable solution to plastic use and paper seems to be a good alternative. But, normal paper cannot be used as a direct replacement for plastic bubble wrap in cushioning applications due to several reasons. Normal paper lacks the air-filled bubbles that provide effective shock absorption and protection. It is less flexible and may not conform to irregularly shaped items. Normal paper is also more susceptible to damage and lacks the durability required for reliable cushioning during transit.
The e-commerce packaging needs an easy to use apparatus for providing on demand processed paper which helps in cushioning and packing of the goods. This will save space, costs and energy of the end user for mass adoption. Therefore specialized paper solutions are necessary to provide comparable cushioning performance while eliminating the use of plastic.
In order to overcome the above-mentioned defects, there is a requirement of development of a specialized system which can be used to give special features to the paper and overcome the mentioned drawbacks. The embodiment of present utility model provides an apparatus to give bubble impression on demand at the packaging line.
The present invention comprises a feed mechanism which pulls in the paper sheet for further processing. The paper material can be in the form of rolls or fanfold packs, specifically designed to produce cushioning effect like bubbles when subjected to pressure. Once inside the machine, the paper material passes through an embossing or perforating system. This system consists of specialized set of closely placed cylinders positioned one above each other with protrusions that applies pressure to the paper, creating small pockets of trapped air. The 2 cylinders containing protrusions include series of grooves and ridges wherein the paper passes through the cylinders using the electronic motor system. These pockets form the bubbles that give the paper its cushioning properties. The embossing process is carefully calibrated to ensure uniformity and consistency in bubble size and spacing. The design of the rolling assembly is done in a way that this keeps the perfect size and shape of bubbles. This ensures the paper bubbles provide reliable cushioning impact when used for packaging purposes. As the embossed paper moves through the cylinders, it is pulled out of the machine from output slot at rear end, ready to be used for packaging applications. The bubble impressed paper can be cut to the desired length for specific packaging needs and used for wrapping or cushioning as per need of the user.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
The terms "comprises", "comprising", or any other variations thereof, are intended to cover a non-exclusive inclusion, such that a process or method that comprises a list of steps does not include only those steps but may include other steps not expressly listed or inherent to such a process or method. Similarly, one or more systems or sub-systems or elements or structures or components preceded by "comprises... a" does not, without more constraints, preclude the existence of other systems, sub-systems, elements, structures, components, additional systems, additional sub-systems, additional elements, additional structures or additional components. Appearances of the phrase “in an embodiment”, “in another embodiment” and similar language throughout this specification may, but not necessarily do, all refer to the same embodiment.
Unless otherwise defined, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by those skilled in the art to which this invention belongs. The system, methods, and examples provided herein are only illustrative and not intended to be limiting.
According to Figure 1, the present invention is related to an apparatus for embossing paper for use in cushioning and preparing wrapping materials comprising the housing unit enclosing the rolling assembly and the panel.

The housing unit consists of a base plate (1), a cover plate, a front face (2) for smooth conveying of the paper comprising two rods (3) with grippers (4), mutually opposite side walls (5) containing rolling assembly between them for impressing paper and a rear face (6) consisting output slot to retrieve impressed paper. The rods are placed horizontally and one above the other. The rod positioned above contains two grippers to securely hold the paper.

The rolling assembly consists of a two closely placed cylinders (7) parallel to the front face, side support consisting bearings and motor for driving rolling mechanism. The cylinders are closely placed one above each other. The cylinders consists series of uniform protrusions including grooves (13) and ridges (14) as shown in in Figure 2, which forms strong and uniform air bubbles giving a cushioned impact on paper. The cylinders are placed closely at a distance such that when paper to be processed passes through the protrusions a strong rolling pressure is created and air is filled between the sheets creating pockets of trapped air at uniform spaces. The cylinders are upheld by side support (8) on both side walls each equipped with two bearings (9) to reduce friction caused by rotation of cylinders.
The rolling of cylinders is driven by motor (10) mounted on the side wall that further contains gears. The motor is driven by power supply, which in turn drives the cylinders to rotate.
The upper sheet (11) is placed above the rolling assembly for covering and giving a compact look.
The panel is equipped with timer reset button (12) for adjusting timed operation of the apparatus.
The external pedal system can be connected to manually control the production of impressed paper.

Working of the apparatus:
The paper to be processed is passed through the two rods and the grippers are to be fixed as per the breadth of the sheet.
Firstly, the paper passes through the first upper rod positioned above and leads to the second upper rod to reach the rolling assembly. In the rolling assembly, the cylinders are upheld by the side support containing bearings to reduce the friction and the rolling mechanism of cylinders is driven by motor assisted by power source.

The cylinders rotate synchronously and the paper passes through them. The protrusions on the cylinders exert rolling pressure which traps the air in grooves and seal paper at ridges which creates small pockets of trapped air within the paper giving uniform impressions on sheet.

The processed sheet later passes through the output slot and the final product is collected. The apparatus can be operated in automatic, manual and timer mode. Timer mode can be assisted by reset timer button placed on the panel of the apparatus. Manual production of the impressed paper can be supported by external pedal system that can be attached to plug-in present at either of the side walls.
