Specification

Description:FORM 2 THE PATENTS ACT 1970 39 OF 1970 & THE PATENT RULES 2003 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION (SEE SECTIONS 10 & RULE 13) 1. TITLE OF THE INVENTION A SIDE SILL OF A VEHICLE 2. APPLICANTS (S) NAME NATIONALITY ADDRESS MARUTI SUZUKI INDIA LIMITED Indian 1, Nelson Mandela Road, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi - 110070 India 3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION COMPLETE SPECIFICATION The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed. A SIDE SILL OF A VEHICLE TECHNICAL FIELD [0001] The present disclosure relates to a side sill of a vehicle. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to structure of the side sill in order to improve seat stability of the vehicle during an event of side crash. BACKGROUND [0002] It is well known that incorporation of airbags has become a legal requirement for use in automotive industry in order to prevent numerous deaths and injuries during crash events. Nowadays, vehicles also comprise of side airbags that can be deployed for protection of occupants in the vehicle from impacts in lateral direction, or against the side of the vehicle. [0003] Typically, during a side crash, the impact acts initially on lower part of a B-pillar region followed by impacting a side sill of the vehicle after which the load is gradually distributed to other directions. Therefore, in such circumstances, it is imperative to make sure that seat of the vehicle has not deformed upto a certain limit till the airbag is fully deployed say, around 35 milli seconds. In case the seat is deformed to a considerable extent before the time span of 35 milli seconds, this hampers stability of occupant in the vehicle and the airbag cannot protect the occupant effectively. [0004] In an existing arrangement as shown in Figure 1 (a) and 1 (b), the side sill (110-1) of the vehicle comprises of a brace (110-2) positioned at a distance from B-pillar towards vehicle front. The region between the brace (110-2) and the B-pillar is relatively weaker. Due to formation of weak zone between the brace (110-2) and the B-pillar region, the side sill (110-1) bends even before the full deployment of side airbag in an event of side crash of the vehicle as shown in figure 5a. Consequently, this results into deformation of seat mounting brackets and hinders stability of seat of the vehicle, thereby causing fatal injury to the vehicle occupant. [0005] Towards this direction, it is imperative to provide structural attributes to the side sill of the vehicle, such that the above mentioned challenges can be circumvented. OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION [0006] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfy, are listed herein below. [0007] It is an object of the present subject matter to overcome the aforementioned and other drawbacks existing in the prior art systems and methods. [0008] It is a significant object of the present disclosure to develop a side sill that is capable of reduction in deformation of seat mounting brackets of a vehicle to a considerable amount. [0009] It is an object of the present disclosure to develop the side sill that is capable to ensure proper deployment of airbag during side crash of the vehicle. [0010] It is an object of the present disclosure to shift the bending of the side sill behind a B-pillar instead of the bending between the B-pillar and A-pillar. [0011] It is another object of the present disclosure to develop the side sill that is rigid. [0012] These and other objects and advantages of the present subject matter, will be apparent to a person skilled in the art after consideration of the following detailed description, taken into consideration with accompanied drawings in which preferred embodiments of the present subject matter are illustrated. It should be understood, however, that it is not intended to limit the disclosure to the particular forms disclosed, but on the contrary, the disclosure is to cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternative falling within the scope of the disclosure. [0031] The terms “comprises”, “comprising”, or any other variations thereof used in the disclosure, are intended to cover a non-exclusive inclusion, such that a device, system, assembly that comprises a list of components does not include only those components but may include other components not expressly listed or inherent to such system, or assembly, or device. In other words, one or more elements in a system or device proceeded by “comprises… a” does not, without more constraints, preclude the existence of other elements or additional elements in the system or device. [0032] The present disclosure depicts a side sill (100) of a vehicle, where three reinforcements are provided in the inner part of the side sill (100) in order to enhance strength of the side sill during side crash. This is important for proper deployment of airbag during side crash events as discussed above. The structural attributes of the proposed side sill (100) is discussed in subsequent sections. [0033] Figure 2 depicts the side sill (100) along with reinforcement brackets in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The corresponding sectional view of the reinforcement brackets are illustrated in Figure 3. [0034] In an aspect, the side sill (100) of the vehicle may comprise an inner side sill (102) and an outer side sill (104). The inner side sill (102) and the outer side sill (104) define a hat-shaped profile where extended flanges of the hat-shaped profile are joined with each other to define a box shape cross section profile to define structure of the side sill (100). [0035] In an aspect, as can be observed from Figure 2 and Figure 3, the inner side sill (102) is provided with a first reinforcement bracket (106-1) and a second reinforcement bracket (106-2), respectively. Herein, the first reinforcement bracket (106-1) and the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) are coupled to an upper corner region and a lower corner region, respectively, of the inner side sill (102). [0036] In an aspect, as shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3, the outer side sill (104) is provided with a third reinforcement bracket (106-3), where the third reinforcement bracket (106-3) is coupled to an upper corner region of the outer side sill (104). [0037] In an aspect, the outer side sill (104) is joined to the inner side sill (102) to form the side sill (100). [0038] In an aspect, the inner side sill (102) and the outer side sill (104) resembles shape of a hat and shall be referred to as the hat-shaped inner side sill (102) and the hat-shaped outer side sill (104) henceforth. [0039] In an aspect, the first reinforcement bracket (106-1), the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) and the third reinforcement bracket (106-3) are all coupled to an inner surface of the hat-shaped inner side sill (102) and the hat-shaped outer side sill (104), respectively. [0040] In an aspect, the first reinforcement bracket (106-1), the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) and the third reinforcement bracket (106-3) are coupled to the hat-shaped inner side sill (102) and the hat-shaped outer side sill (104) through spot welding. [0041] Figure 4 depicts perspective view of the reinforcement bracket in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. In an aspect, as can be observed from the figure, each of the three reinforcement brackets (106-1, 106-2, 106-3) are having an elongated L-shaped profile. [0042] In an aspect, further, each of the three reinforcement brackets (106-1, 106-2, 106-3), are also having a plurality of indentations (108) along horizontal direction. These plurality of indentations (108) helps in providing spot weld connections to facilitate spot welding of each of the three reinforcement brackets (106-1, 106-2, 106-3) with the inner surface of the hat-shaped inner side sill (102) and the hat-shaped outer side sill (104), respectively. Further, the plurality of indentations (108) also aids in enhancing rigidity of the overall structure. [0043] Figure 5 (a-b) depicts working of the present invention with respect to the existing technique in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. [0044] In an aspect, the first reinforcement bracket (106-1), the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) and the third reinforcement bracket (106-3) are positioned in front portion of a B-pillar region of the vehicle. Now, say ‘l1’ and ‘l2’ be the change in width wise distance between the two seat mounting brackets (502, 504) in the existing arrangement and in the present arrangement, respectively. [0045] In an aspect, herein the B-pillar region covers at least 40% portion of the side sill (100) reinforced by the first reinforcement bracket (106-1), the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) and the third reinforcement bracket (106-3), respectively. [0046] In an aspect, due to such placement of the first reinforcement bracket (106-1), the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) and the third reinforcement bracket (106-3), the deformation gets shifted rearwards behind the B-pillar by a distance, say ?x (shown in Figure 5 (b)) unlike the existing arrangement as shown in Figure 5 (a). [0047] In an aspect, due to the presence of the first reinforcement bracket (106-1), the second reinforcement bracket (106-2) and the third reinforcement bracket (106-3), the impact loads during side crash of the vehicle also becomes less and gets transferred towards floor of the vehicle. As a result, this reduces deformation of the seat mounting brackets (502, 504) to a considerable extent, and therefore change in width wise distance between the seat mounting brackets (502, 504) becomes less (l2
