Abstract: A device (100) to detect concentration of ethanol in a flexible fuel, comprises a fluid channel (10), a crystalline member (50), a radiation source, and a control unit. The crystalline member (50) may be positioned on the fluid channel (10) and closing an 5 opening (O) of the fluid channel (10). The crystalline member (50) contacts the flexible fuel flowing through the fluid channel (10). The radiation source may be positioned adjacent to one side of the crystalline member (50). The radiation may undergo multiple attenuated reflections within the crystalline member (50). The control unit may be positioned adjacent to the other side of the crystalline member (50). The control unit 10 receives the reflected radiation, determines losses of the radiation between one side and the other side of the crystalline member (50), and detects the ethanol concentration in the flexible fuel based on the determined losses of the radiation.
