[0003] Teleprompters, also known as autocues, have been an indispensable tool in broadcasting and public speaking for several decades. Said devices project scrolling text, typically a script or a speech, in front of the camera lens or on a transparent surface, allowing the speaker to read the text while maintaining direct eye contact with the audience. Over the years, teleprompters have evolved in terms of technology and design, shifting from large and cumbersome apparatuses to compact and portable devices that cater to a variety of modern needs.
[0004] The origins of the teleprompter date back to the early 1950s when introduced to assist television performers in delivering their lines seamlessly without the need to memorize them. Early versions of said devices were bulky and rudimentary. A notable instance from the era is the teleprompter developed by Hubert Schlafly, Irving Berlin Kahn, and Fred Barton Jr. in 1950. Early versions used a motorized scroll of paper with the script printed on the device. As the scroll moved, the performer could read the script off a half-silvered mirror, which also reflected the camera's lens. Said devices revolutionized television broadcasting, with news anchors and show hosts embracing the technology.
[0005] As technology progressed, so did the teleprompter's design. By the 1980s and 1990s, paper rolls were replaced with monitors displaying electronic text. The newer systems provided more flexibility, enabling operators to easily adjust the speed of the scrolling text in real-time, catering to the pace of the speaker. However, said systems, though advanced, were still large and primarily suited for studio setups.
[0006] The turn of the millennium witnessed a paradigm shift in teleprompter design, spurred by the miniaturization of technology and the digital revolution. Tablets and smartphones, with their high-resolution screens and computing capabilities, became the new foundation for teleprompter systems. Several apps emerged that transformed said devices into teleprompters. The approach drastically reduced the size and weight of the teleprompter setup, making truly portable for the first time.
[0007] A key advancement in the realm of compact and portable teleprompters was the development of lightweight rigs and mounts that could hold tablets or smartphones in front of camera lenses or tripods. Said setups utilized beam splitter mirrors, similar to traditional teleprompters, allowing the camera to capture the subject without capturing the reflected script. The lightweight rigs and mounts made feasible for independent filmmakers, vloggers, and public speakers to have a professional teleprompting system without the associated bulk and expense.
[0008] Further advancements saw the incorporation of remote controls, often leveraging Bluetooth technology, enabling the speaker or an assistant to control the scrolling speed without physically touching the teleprompter device. Bluetooth technology was particularly useful for solo content creators who required both hands-free and control over their script's pace.
[0009] The growth of online content creation platforms like YouTube and TikTok further fuelled the demand for such portable teleprompting solutions. Recognizing the trend, several companies started offering all-in-one compact teleprompter kits, complete with mounts, mirrors, and accompanying software, catering specifically to the needs of the digital content creator demographic.
[00010] Thus, the journey of the teleprompter from inception in the 1950s to the present day is a testament to technological evolution meeting user needs. From bulky motorized paper scrolls to sleek tablet-based systems, the teleprompter has consistently adapted, offering speakers and content creators a reliable tool to deliver their messages with confidence and professionalism.

COMPACT AND PORTABLE TELEPROMPTER DEVICE
Abstract
A streamlined and portable teleprompter device is introduced, integrating a dedicated display unit for clear text presentation. Ingeniously, an optical beam splitter is strategically angled vis-à-vis the display, ensuring that reflected text is visible to the reader while remaining invisible to the camera. The design incorporates a camera mount, meticulously aligned to ensure the camera's field of view remains unmarred by the beam splitter. Central to the operation, a control unit interacts seamlessly with the display, facilitating text navigation and pacing adjustments. Enhancing the versatility, a wireless connectivity module is embedded, enabling text uploads and control command receptions from external devices, making a quintessential tool for on-the-go broadcasters and content creators.
