DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a light emitting device to illuminate any mark and method thereof. The present invention specifically relates to a light emitting device to illuminate standalone letters and/or logo as present on an automobile by utilizing light engine unit. The light emitting device provides homogeneous, uniform, and efficient illumination of mark and/or logo and/or standalone letters.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
In general automobile/ vehicle are equipped with a logo or letter that provides easy recognition to passersby towards recognition of automobile manufacturer and/ or type of an automobile. Further, such logo/letter are placed on decklid/hood of an automobile. It is pertinent to note that the letters/logo in are either made up of plastic or metal. Further, such letter/logo are attached mechanically onto automobile’s decklid or hood. Alternatively, letters or logo can also be placed on automobile through glue or double-sided tape i.e. through taping or gluing.
Conventionally, letters or logos have various surface finish (metallization, chrome plating, painting or they are in the original colour of the base material). If the logo or letters are illuminated, there is placed a big plastic panel at the decklid or hood and the plastic panel include the electronics, light sources, attachment and the letters are usually executed by some transparent or translucent windows in the shape of the letters or logo. If letters are standalone, each letter is larger plastics box including the same stuff of that of the overall panel. Further, letter with presence of an island such as “O”, “P”, “R”, and so on causes great trouble. This is because island of letter is part of automobile plastic panel and requires to be in synchronization. This implies that paint or color of island-based letters needs to be same as that of automobile panel. This way it is ensured that letter/logo appears in uniformity in accordance with an automobile panel onto which they are attached.
Further, if standalone letters would be slide from the back side of the decklid or hood, the overall plastics panel would be hidden (invisible), but the trouble with the colour matching of the island and surrounding is still there. Moreover, because the holes or openings for the letters are big, the structural integrity of the decklid or hood sheet metal is influenced (negatively).
Further, there are few specific alphabets that have islands on them. Alternatively, the islands are the depressed and hollow portion present in a few letters such as ‘D’, ‘B’, ‘O’, and so on. In furtherance to this, the manufacturing of this logo requires a process of moulding in a mould wherein molten material is poured into such a mould to provide the specific shape and structure of the logo. During the moulding process, there occurs a time difference in the flow of molten material around a hollow and a non-hollow portion which leads to unevenness and non-uniformity on the surface for specific alphabets/letters which have the presence of depressed or hollow portions. Further, in the alphabets having islands on them, in order to rectify the disconnection of the depressed and hollow portion with the remaining portion, welding is done. This further diminishes the surface quality of the letters which further affects the quality of the logo. In other words, thereby diminishing the overall appearance of the logo and will result in poor-quality finishing.
Further, in case of thin size of the logo, the letter with a depressed and hollow portion will make the logo fragile. Due to this reason, there is an increased chance of engraving a new logo which requires welding of the same on the surface of the vehicle. Thereby diminishing the appearance of the logo and further severely impacts robustness, reliability, and structural integrity of the vehicle.
In addition to this, logo that is formed by combination-based letter, requires complex and difficult electrical connection since each letter of logo requires electrical connection. In case, few letter suffers from default in electrical connection, whole logo is required to be replaced. Such frequent or repetitive change in logo incurs manufacturing cost and is thus expensive.
Further, in the available solution, there is some aftermarket solution of letters for illumination, but it doesn’t allow illuminate standalone single letter through existing sheet metal of the decklid. Also, there are standalone letters placed on the decklid, but they do not illuminate nowadays.
Also in the available technique for illumination of letters on automobile, the letters are attached to the decklid using both sided gluing tape and light engine are either taped, snapped, screwed or clipped from the rear. But these available techniques have problem of leakage associated with them.
However, available/existing technique for illumination of automobile logo/emblem/ letters are unable to provide well-defined, adequate, sufficient, simple, even, homogeneous, and adequate illumination. Further, existing technique for illumination of letters/ logo of an automobile is expensive and requires skilled. Additionally, existing technique in reference to illumination of logo/letter/emblem of an automobile, it suffers from a limitation of inability to provide illumination to standalone/individual letters of a logo.

DESCRIPTION
In general automobile/ vehicle are equipped with a logo or letter or mark or emblem that provides easy recognition to passersby towards recognition of automobile manufacturer. Further, such logo/letter/mark are placed on decklid/hood of an automobile. It is pertinent to note that the letters/logo in conventional manner are either made up of plastic or metal. Further, such letter/logo are attached mechanically onto automobile’s decklid or hood. Alternatively, letters or logo can also be placed on automobile through glue or double sided tape i.e. through taping or gluing.
The letters or logos have various surface finish (metallization, chrome plating, painting or they are in the original colour of the base material).
Further, in conventional technique, illuminated logo requires lot of expertise as well as time during their painting process completion. This is because, their color/paint is required to be in synchronization with automobile color/paint. If synchronization is not achieved, this leads to unevenness, non-uniformity and haziness between an automobile and their logo. This also leads to confusion, wherein passersby are neither able to recognize automobile manufacturer nor able to recognize type of an automobile.
However, available/ existing technique for illumination of automobile logo/emblem/ letters are unable to provide well-defined, adequate, sufficient, simple, even, homogeneous, and adequate illumination. Further, existing technique for illumination of letters/ logo of an automobile is expensive and requires skilled workmen. Additionally, existing technique in reference to illumination of logo/letter/emblem of an automobile, suffers from a limitation of inability to provide illumination to standalone/individual letters of a logo.
Hence, there is a need for a technical solution that overcomes above-mentioned issues of providing illumination to a standalone letter/logo/mark/emblem in an economical way.

• a plurality of light engine housing that encompasses electronic and optical components/ units/components/assembly;
• a plurality of Printed Circuit Board (PCB), wherein the PCB is a base for electrical circuit to provide electrical connection;
• a plurality of light source, wherein the light source is placed over the PCB to provide electrical connection;
• a plurality of feeding channel, wherein the feeding channel is arranged near light source and placed between the light engine housing and outer panel;
• a plurality of light blade, wherein the light blade is arranged onto the outer panel;
• a plurality of in-moulded optical elements, wherein the in-moulded optical elements are integrated with the light guide blade; and

The light emitting device is able to illuminate standalone letters/logo/mark/emblem sequentially on the metal sheet of automobile body part. Further, the light illumination device provides homogeneous, even, uniform, and efficient illumination of mark and/or logo and/or letters.
Figure 1(a) illustrates schematic view of light emitting device for illuminating letters/logo/mark/emblem in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In the light emitting device (100) for illuminating letters/logo/mark there includes different units/components that forms an illuminating assembly. The light emitting device (100) includes a light engine (107) which contains a light engine housing (101), an outer panel (103), a printed circuit board (PCB) (109), a light source/ light emitting diodes (LED) (110), a feeding channel (111), a light guide blade (113), an in-moulded optical element inside light guide blade (115), and a double sided tape (117) on a stand-alone letter (118) with an outer lens (119) to it. Further, an o-ring seal (105) is present, wherein the o-ring seal (105) connects the light engine housing (101) to outer panel (103) of the automobile. The light emitting device (100) can illuminate letters of logo that may include island, wherein such letters include P, Q, O, D, and so on.
Thus, the light engine housing (101) is connected to outer panel (103) with help of an o-ring seal (105). This ensures to provide water tight leakage so that water/ moisture cannot penetrate in the components of device (100). The light engine is integrated with a lamp driver module (LDM) and electronics driver. The lamp driver module is an electrically controlled component that provides a sequential/ pre-defined pattern to light rays. The pre-defined pattern is in accordance with convenience of user.
In the light engine housing (101), electronic component of PCB (109) is integrated with a pre-defined electrical circuit pattern to provide uninterrupted electrical supply to light source (110). Due to this, it provides a secured base, onto which light source (110) is placed in a pre-defined manner in accordance with convenience of user.
The light source (110) may be LED and may alternatively include other forms of light source based on functionality that is provided by the device (100). The light source (110) is integrated in conjunction to feeding channel (111) that acts as a passage/tunnel through which light rays from light source (110) passes. Thus, the LEDs (110) are placed on the PCB (105) and are placed in front of the feeding channels (111) and are shining through the channel (111) (using the light guide principle) into the light blade (113) inside the letter (118) on the outside of the decklid. The light blade (113) is having some optically dedicated features like structure or in-molded other material caps and managing the final letter shape.
Further, the light blade (113) is placed/arranged onto outer panel (103) of automobile. The light blade (113) is integrated with in-moulded optical element (115). Furthermore, light blade (113) is in conjunction with the feeding channel (110) to receive light rays from it. These letters (118) that form logo/emblem of an automobile is attached at pre-determined location with help of double-sided tape (117). Additionally, the letters (118) have an outer lens (119) and through outer lens (119) of letters (118) of logo, light beam is projected and thereby, illumination of standalone letters (118) is provided through the light emitting device (100).
Figure 1(b) illustrates schematic view of arrangement of light engine on outer panel in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. The light engine (107) is placed on the inner side of the outer panel (103) of the automobile. This is achieved by drilling holes in sheet metal of frontside/decklid of an automobile. Preferably, diameter of such holes onto automobile is in range of 2-4 mm.
Figure 1(c) illustrates assembly of multiple components that are utilized in light emitting device for illuminating letters/logo/mark in accordance with an embodiment of present invention. Further, this illustrates arrangement of components such as light engine housing (101), car outer panel (103), light engine (107), o-ring seal (105), letter (118) having double sided tape (117), wherein the letter (118) is in conjunction to feeding channel (111).
Further, an exploded view of the feeding channel (111) is also provided to show clear arrangement of the light emitting device (100). The letters (118) are attached to the decklid sheet metal using double sided tape (117). The feeding channels (111) are going through holes in the sheet metal. From the rear side of the sheet metal is attached light engine (sealed box including the LED electronics driver and LEDs). The rear light engine is sealed using either o-rings (105) or other type of the seal to the feeding channels (111) going through sheet metal and make the light emitting device (100) completely water tight assembly.
Further, the light engine (107) is attached to the outer panel (103) through light engine mounting (107a). The light engine mounting (107a) is arranged over the light engine (107) using various mechanical clips. Alternatively, light engine mounting (107a) can be arranged through taping, snapping, or screwing as per convenience of user. This ensures secure arrangement of light engine (107) onto outer panel (103). It is pertinent to note that, light emitting device provides illumination of standalone letter. In furtherance of achieving this objective, each standalone/individual letter and/or mark and/or emblem is provided with a light engine. Such an arrangement ensures easy serviceability, maintenance, repairability and assembly of standalone letters/mark/emblem onto an automobile. Due to this, it is possible to change one letter when an electrical disconnect occurs.
Figure 1(d) illustrates schematic view of arrangement of standalone letters on outer panel in accordance with the embodiment of the present invention. In one embodiment of the present invention, a letter “S” shown to have attached on the outer panel (103) of the automobile and it illuminates homogenous, even, uniform, and effective light. Each letter has its own light engine to illuminate the letter.

The present invention doesn’t lower the mechanical integrity of sheet metal parts of automobile. Further, the present invention removes issue with the color matching of letter islands (OPRDABQ) and rest of the automobile’s body. Thus, the present invention provides homogenous illumination of letters and shapes.
In an exemplary embodiment, the light emitting device for illuminating letters of present invention can be utilized in commercial advertisement boards/placards onto which standalone letters can be illuminated homogeneously, unfirmly, evenly, adequately, and efficiently.
The light emitting device (100) incorporates lamp driver module along electronics driver in light engine (107) that provides sequential pattern of light emblem projection from standalone letter/mark/emblem/logo. In one exemplary embodiment, sequential/ pattern formed in illuminating standalone letter can be projection of different color from different letter such as “RED” from letter S, “YELLOW” from letter B, “BLUE” from letter T, and so on. This different color can imply different color of logo on the automobile.
In another embodiment, the light emitting device (100) can project illuminating letter, wherein initial letter is of one color such as “RED” and rest of the standalone letter is illuminating in same color but different from initial one such as “YELLOW”.
Another exemplary embodiment, light emitting device can project illuminating standalone letter, wherein light beam projection in each of the letter is in wave shape. Alternatively, illumination of letter through light emitting device can be in form of animation wherein letter may illuminate in shape/ structure of animated character.
Alternatively, in another exemplary embodiment, light emitting device can project illuminating standalone letter, wherein each letter lit/illuminate in a pre-defined time duration. For example, letter “S” will illuminate in 2 seconds, letter “K” illuminates in 4 seconds, letter “O” illuminate in 5 seconds, and so on.
In light emitting device, there is illuminated individual/ standalone letter/logo/mark/emblem which is supported via double sided tape. Due to this, electrical fault/disconnection, if any, occurred in any of the letter then it can be rectified easily by replacing that letter. Due to this, there is no need to replace the whole logo/letters/mark/emblem. Thereby, light emitting device is economical and requires much lesser time for replacing faulty letters without requiring much of skilled expertise.
Furthermore, in another exemplary embodiment, the light emitting device for illuminating letters of present invention can be utilized in a car, an ambulance, wherein necessary standalone letters can be illuminated form far-off distance in order to make way for the ambulance towards hospital in timely manner.
Fig. 2 illustrates flowchart depicting method of illuminating letters/logo/mark/emblem using light emitting device in accordance with an embodiment of present invention. The method includes steps:
• first, at step (201), a light source (110) emits light rays to letters/logo/ emblem/mark as attached on outer panel of automobile. Each light source of the light emitting device (100) will emit the light rays simultaneously or sequentially depending on the requirement of the user.;
• next, at step 202, light rays will then move through passage of a feeding channel (111) towards a light blade (113). Due to presence of feeding channel (113), it is ensured that light rays received to light blade (113) does not get deviated to multiple direction. This way illuminating assembly integrated in light emitting device (100) provides unhindered and unidirectional movement of light rays;
• then, at step 203, thereafter, the light blade (113) guide light rays for distributing light at the backside the letter/logo/emblem/ mark evenly. Each light blade (113) is placed beside each individual/ standalone letter of automobile logo. Further, light blade (113) is arranged in such way that it follows the structure/shape of each standalone letter (118) of automobile logo. Due to this, plane, and curvature of each standalone letter (118) is followed precisely. In addition to this, each light blade (113) is integrated with in-moulded optical components (115). Due to this, each part of standalone letter is receiving light rays in an even, homogeneous, uniform, suitable, and adequate manner;
• lastly, projecting illumination from standalone letters/logo/mark/emblem from outer panel (103) towards outside. The light beam projection occurs from lens (119) that is placed over the letter (118). Further, illuminating assembly integrated within light emitting device (100) is providing resultant light beam projection of standalone letters in homogeneous, uniform, even, adequate, suitable, and efficient manner.
