Alternator With Viscous Technology

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for increasing the operational efficiency of an energy conversion device in a vehicle. The method includes receiving a threshold value corresponding to the energy state of an energy storage device, as well as an indication of an energy state of the energy storage device and the operational state of the energy conversion device. The method further involves determining if the indication of the energy state exceeds the threshold value. In response to determining that the energy state exceeds the threshold value and the energy conversion device is in a charging state, a control signal is transmitted to engage a clutch mechanism, thereby decoupling the energy conversion device from a shaft mechanically connected to the vehicle’s drive mechanism.
