Abstract: [0036] An object of the present invention is to provide an air filter 100 including a housing 102. The housing 102 includes a filter enclosing cover 104, detachably coupled to the housing 102 to form an enclosure for a primary filter 106 and an air inlet 108 for the air to enter into the primary filter 106 and an air outlet 110 configured on an outlet cover 112 coupled to one end of the housing 102. The housing 102 also includes a first securement element 116 configured on the housing 102, and a second securement element 118 configured on the filter enclosing cover 104. The first securement element 116 and the second securement element 118 are arranged to protect movement of the primary filter 106.

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of air filtration, and more particularly to fuel air filters for internal combustion engines
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The air filter for fuel is a critical component of internal combustion engines. It plays a vital role in ensuring that only clean air enters the engine, which is essential for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.
[0003] A compact housing minimizes the overall size of the air filter assembly, making it easier to integrate into the engine compartment. This is particularly important in modern ICEs with limited space constraints. Additionally, a compact housing reduces the weight of the air filter, contributing to improved vehicle fuel efficiency.
[0004] The housing needs to have a sturdy securement element that can provide a secure foundation for the filter element, preventing it from collapsing or becoming dislodged during operation. The securement element ensures that the filter element maintains its position and continues to effectively trap contaminants from the incoming air. Proper support also protects the filter element from damage caused by vibration or sudden impacts, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
[0005] Even though there exist numerous support structure for the air filter there is a short coming in achieving proper securement in a compact structure.
[0006] Therefore, there is a need for an air filter which overcomes the above shortcomings discussed.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] An object of the present invention is to provide an air filter including a housing. The housing includes a filter enclosing cover, detachably coupled to the housing to form an enclosure for a primary filter and an air inlet for the air to enter into the primary filter and an air outlet configured on an outlet cover coupled to one end of the housing. The housing also includes a first securement element configured on the housing, wherein the first securement element is configured to secure a first radial side of a distal end of the primary filter and a second securement element configured on the filter enclosing cover, wherein the second securement element is configured to secure a second radial side of the distal end of the primary filter. A proximal end of the primary filter is coupled to the outlet cover and the first securement element and the second securement element is arranged to protect movement of the primary filter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

It should be understood that various alternatives to the embodiments of the invention described herein may be employed.

[0021] According to an embodiment, the present invention discloses an air filter. The air filter includes a housing with a filter enclosing cover, detachably coupled to the housing to form an enclosure for a primary filter and an air inlet is provided on the housing for the air to enter into the primary filter and an air outlet configured on an outlet cover coupled to one end of the housing. The housing also includes a first securement element configured on the housing, wherein the first securement element is configured to secure a first radial side of a distal end of the primary filter and a second securement element configured on the the filter enclosing cover, wherein the second securement element is configured to secure a second radial side of the distal end of the primary filter. The housing includes a proximal end of the primary filter coupled to the outlet cover and the first securement element and the second securement element are arranged to protect movement of the primary filter.
[0022] Figure 1 illustrates a top view of air filter with partially cut housing, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The air filter 100 includes a housing 102. The housing 102 includes a filter enclosing cover104 wherein the filter enclosing cover 104 is detachably coupled to the housing 102 to form an enclosure for a primary filter 106. The housing 102 includes an air inlet (not shown in Figure 1) to let the air into the primary filter 106. The housing 102 also includes an air outlet 110 configured on an outlet cover (not shown in Figure 1), wherein the outlet cover is coupled to one end of the housing 102. The housing also includes a first securement element 116 configured on the housing, wherein the first securement element is configured to secure a first radial side of a distal end of a primary filter 106. A second securement element 118 is configured on the filter enclosing cover 104, wherein the second securement element 118 is configured to secure a second radial side of the distal end of the primary filter 106.
[0023] Figure 2 illustrates a horizontal cross section of the air filter 100, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The housing 102 includes a proximal end 122 of the primary filter 106 coupled to the outlet cover 112. The first securement element 116 and the second securement element 118 is arranged to protect the movement of the primary filter 106.
[0024] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the first securement element 116 arranged on the inner surface of the housing 102. In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the second securement element 118 is arranged on the inner surface of the filter enclosing cover 104.
[0025] Figure 3 illustrates the second securement element arranged on the inner surface of the filter enclosing cover, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The filter enclosing cover 104 includes the second securement element 118, wherein the second securement element 118 secures the second radial side of the distal end of the primary filter (not shown in Figure 3). According to an embodiment of the present invention, the second securement element 118 is also configured to secure the distal end of the primary filter in an axial direction.
[0026] Figure 4 illustrates the first securement element arranged on the inner surface of the housing, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The housing 102 includes an air inlet 108 to let the air into the primary filter (as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2). The housing 102 further includes the first securement element 116 configured to secure a first radial side of a distal end of the primary filter. According to an embodiment of the present invention the first securement element 116 is an arc shaped protrusion. The arc shaped profile is provided to confer with the shape of the primary filter. In another embodiment of the present invention, the arch shaped profile is protruded from the housing by means of at least one lug. The lugs provide the support for arc shaped protrusion.
[0027] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the first securement element 116 protects primary filter from moving in radial direction, where in the second securement element 118 protects primary filter from moving in axial direction and radial direction. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the shape of the first securement element 116 and the second securement element 118 depends on the shape of the distal end of the primary filter so as to restrict the axial and radial movement of the primary filter.
[0028] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the second securement element 118 comprises a semi-circular disc having a radial surface and a flat surface. In an embodiment of the present invention, the radial surface of the semi-circular disc engages the second radial side in the distal end of the primary filter 106 and the flat surface of the second securement element 118 protects the axial movement of the primary filter 106. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the semi-circular disc of the second securement element 118 is positioned through a plurality of lugs projected from the inner surface of the filter enclosing cover 104.
[0029] Figure 5 illustrates an exploded view of the air filter 500, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The air filter 500 includes a housing 502. The housing 502 includes a filter enclosing cover 504, wherein the filter enclosing cover 504 is detachably coupled to the housing 502 to form an enclosure for a primary filter 506. The housing 502 includes an air inlet 508 to let the air into the primary filter 506. The housing 502 also includes an air outlet 510 configured on an outlet cover 512, wherein the outlet covers 512 is coupled to one end 514 of the housing 502. The housing also includes a first securement element configured on the inner surface of the housing, wherein the first securement element is configured to secure a first radial side of a distal end 520 of the primary filter 506. In one embodiment of the present invention, the housing includes the first securement element as shown in Figure 4. The housing further includes a second securement element configured on the inner surface of the filter enclosing cover 504, wherein the second securement element is configured to secure a second radial side of the distal end 520 of the primary filter 506. In one embodiment of the present invention, the housing includes the second securement element shown in Figure 3. In the housing 502 the proximal end 522 of the primary filter 506 is coupled to the outlet cover 512. The air filter 500 includes a secondary filter 524 arranged inside the outlet cover 512. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the air filter includes a sealing member 526 to couple the filter enclosing cover 504 to the housing 502. In an embodiment of the present invention, the air filter 500 includes a drain valve 508 with clamp.
[0030] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the air enters the primary filter 506 through the air inlet 508 and further moves towards the secondary filter 524 before moving out through the air outlet 510 on the outlet cover 512.
[0031] In an embodiment of the present invention, the filter enclosing cover 504 is associated with the housing 502 using fasteners to form an enclosure for the primary element 506. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the filter enclosing cover 504 and the housing 502 is coupled through a plurality of screws.
[0032] In an embodiment of the present invention, the first securement element and the second securement element is arranged to protect movement of the primary filter in a radial and axial direction of the housing.
[0033] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the first securement element and the second securement element ensures that the filter enclosing cover 504 gets properly fitted to the housing 502 only when the primary filter element 506 is in its correct position.
[0034] Thus, the securement element disclosed in the present invention protects the primary filter element from damage due to the vibration or sudden impacts and thereby enhancing the life time of the air filter. Further, the unique design of the present invention caters the compact air filter design to give a support both in radial and axial directions.
[0035] While considerable emphasis has been placed herein on the components and component parts of the various embodiments, it will be appreciated that many embodiments can be made and that many changes can be made in the embodiments without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. These and other changes in the various embodiment of the disclosure will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein, whereby it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the disclosure and not as a limitation.
,CLAIMS:We claim:
1. An air filter 100 comprising:
? a housing 102 comprising: a filter enclosing cover 104, detachably coupled to the housing 102 to form an enclosure for a primary filter 106;
? an air inlet 108 for the air to enter into the primary filter 106 and an air outlet 110 configured on an outlet cover 112 coupled to one end of the housing 102;
? a first securement element 116 configured on the housing 102, wherein the first securement element 116 is configured to secure a first radial side of a distal end of the primary filter 106;
? a second securement element 118 configured on the filter enclosing cover 104, wherein the second securement element 118 is configured to secure a second radial side of the distal end of the primary filter 106;
? a proximal end of the primary filter 106 coupled to the outlet cover 112; and
? the first securement element 116 and the second securement element 118 are arranged to protect movement of the primary filter 106.
2. The air filter as of claim 1, wherein the first securement element 116 is an arc shaped protrusion.
3. The air filter as of claim 1, wherein the first securement element 116 is configured on an inner surface of the housing 102.
4. The air filter as of claim 1, wherein the second securement element 118 is configured on an inner surface of the filter enclosing cover 104.
5. The air filter as of claim 1, further comprises a secondary filter 124 attached to the outlet cover 112.
6. The air filter as of claim 1, wherein the first securement element 116 protects primary filter 106 from moving in radial direction, where in the second securement element 118 protects primary filter 106 from moving in axial direction and radial direction,
7. The air filter as of claim 1, wherein the shape of the first securement element 116 and the second securement element 118 depends on the shape of the distal end of the primary filter 106.
8. The air filter as of claim 1, further includes a sealing member 526 to couple the filter enclosing cover 504 to the housing 502.
