Abstract: Provided are: a composite material which can further improve properties associated with CNTs; a method for producing the composite material; and a method for producing a reinforcing fiber base material. In a composite material 10, a structure 14 that is composed of a plurality of carbon nanotubes 17 is formed on the surface of each of carbon fibers 11 in a carbon fiber bundle 12 that constitutes the composite material 10. Each of the carbon nanotubes 17 has a curved shape. The carbon nanotubes 17 are adhered in various postures onto the surface, i.e., a curved surface, of each of the carbon fibers 11 to form the structure 14. A first sizing agent crosslinks the directly contacting carbon nanotubes 17 with each other through a structure derived from a carbodiimide produced by the reaction of a functional group in the carbon nanotubes 17 with a carbodiimide group.
