Method For Recycling Cathode Active Material And Cathode Active Material Recycled Thereby

Abstract: The present invention relaters to a method for recycling a cathode active material and a cathode active material recycled thereby and, more specifically, to a method for recycling a cathode active material and a cathode active material recycled thereby, the method comprising the steps of: (a) fragmenting a waste battery including a cathode, a separator, and an anode; (b) spraying compressed air to the waste battery fragments to remove the anode; and (c) treating the waste battery fragments, from which the anode has been removed, with a solvent to remove the separator and obtain cathode fragments. The present invention has an effect of providing a method for recycling a cathode active material and a cathode active material recycled thereby, wherein the method greatly improves the rate performance of a battery, to which the recycled cathode active material is applied, by removing ceramics transferred from a separator when the cathode is separated from the waste battery, is eco-friendly due to the non-use of acid and thus requires no neutralization and wastewater treatment to thereby reduce process costs, recycles the cathode active material as it is without decomposition thereof to result in no metal elements to be discarded, can recover the current collector and causes neither toxic gas generation nor explosion risk due to the non-dissolution of the current collector in an organic solvent or the like, and is suitable for mass production by using easy-to-manage processes, such as heat treatment and compressed air spraying; and the cathode active material has excellent electrochemical performance, resistance characteristics, and capacity characteristics.
