Abstract: The present invention provides a new coupler which has realized at least one improvement that can enhance the practicability of couplers of conventional configuration. A coupler 10 comprises: a syringe mounting part 18 to which a syringe 12 having a nozzle part 86 equipped with a lock collar 94 is releasably mounted; a vial mounting part 20 to which a vial 14 is mounted; and a double-ended needle 22 which connects between the syringe 12 and the vial 14. In the coupler: a cap 102 which covers and caps the nozzle part 86 of the syringe 12 is incorporated in a cap holder 104 having an engagement part 126 for engagement with the lock collar 94; a retention mechanism 143 is provided which retains the engagement state of the engagement part 126 with the lock collar 94; and a release mechanism 152 is provided which cancels the retaining of the engagement state of the engagement part 126 with the lock collar 94 by the retention mechanism 143 as the syringe 12 and the vial 14 are brought relatively closer to each other to be connected to each other via the double-ended needle 22.
