Abstract: The present invention contemplates to provide bio-based sand coating material and preparation method thereof wherein the 100% natural Silica quartz is coated with the bio-pigments to provide a bio-based coated sand granules to result in the final near to green and eco-friendly bio-based pigment coated Silica Quartz Sand granules wherein the coating materials are derived from ingredients of natural origin thus are eco-friendly and cost-effective.
Description:FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to bio-based sand coating material and preparation method thereof, more particularly to the field of the coating material of the natural quartz silica-sand being used in the manufacturing of the Industrial and commercial flooring, Countertops, Sanitary wares Kitchen Sink, Table Top, Tiles, Engineering Stone and other such products. The bio-based silica quartz sand coating material is prepared from the bio-pigments and thus is bio-based in nature. Therefore, it excludes the need of chemical coating and provides natural colour coated quartz silica-sand thus making it cost-efficient, non-toxic and eco-friendly.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
The quartz is one of the filler materials being used in the composition of the casting molded articles like kitchen sink, washbasins, countertops, tiles and any other molded article that can be made by casting a composition in a mold of any desired shapes and sizes.
The different kinds of color coated quartz sand granules are available in the state of arts. The sand granules are coated with chemical ingredients to impart color to them. Such type of colored sand granules are available in many color shades and have many industrial applications.
The resin coated and inorganic ceramic colour coated sand granules are known in the state of arts and are popular. The chemically coated sands have many applications and can be used in Industrial and commercial flooring, Countertops, Sanitary wares etc.
The pure natural quartz do not have any color and thus are generally mixed with or coated with the colored chemical particles or chemical coating for providing colored hue to the sand granules. The chemicals are toxic and not biodegradable in nature and yet are used for coating the quartz being used as fillers in the casting composition of the molded articles available in the state of art, as no natural coating options are available.
These days global warming and environment saving and sustainability concerns are impacting the choice of consumers and urge of choosing environment friendly bio-degradable products is increasing. Hence, bio-based products are being preferred over the chemically treated products as they are eco-friendly.
The present invention provides solution to above mentioned concerns by disclosing the natural coating material for quartz sand made from bio-pigments or free pigments in mixture where the pigments are derived from 100% bio-based ingredients of natural origin. The coating materials are made of plant extracted materials or naturally available organic ingredients thus are non-toxic and bio-degradable in nature. Moreover, it eliminates the need of chemical compounds for the coating of the natural quartz.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The major object of present invention is to provide bio-based sand coating material and preparation method thereof wherein the 100% natural Silica quartz is coated with the bio-pigments.
Another object of the present invention is that, an organic epoxy binder is used for the preparation of the bio-based sand coating material.
Further object of the present invention is that, the granules of natural quartz are coated with bio-pigments or free pigments in mixture where the bio-pigments are derived from 100% bio-based ingredients of vegetable origin or naturally available organic ingredients thus are eco-friendly and cost-effective.
Another object of the present invention is that, the bio-pigments of natural origin imparts the beautiful natural colors to the quartz granules that lasts longer and are non-toxic in nature.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to provide bio-based sand coating material and preparation method thereof wherein the 100% natural Silica quartz is coated with the bio-pigments to provide a bio-based coated sand granules as near to green product and to keep it eco-friendly. This invention eliminates the need of chemical coating materials for the quartz sand as the granules of natural quartz are coated with bio-pigments or free pigments in mixture wherein the pigments are derived from bio-based ingredients of natural origin thus are eco-friendly and cost-effective.
Advantages of the present invention: -
1. To provide near to green natural bio-based coating material which is prepared from Bio-based ingredients of natural origin and thus are non-toxic and bio-degradable in nature.
2. To provide natural bio-based coating material for coating of quartz silica sand which imparts natural colour to the quartz silica sand granules and is cost-effective.
3. To provide bio-based coating material for coating of quartz silica sand granules which are non-toxic and bio-degradable in nature.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to provide bio-based sand coating material and preparation method thereof wherein the 100% natural Silica quartz is coated with the bio-pigments to provide a bio-based coated sand granules as near to green product and to keep it eco-friendly. This invention eliminates the need of chemical coating materials for the quartz sand as the granules of natural quartz are coated with bio- pigments or free pigments in mixture wherein the pigments are derived from bio-based ingredients of natural origin thus are eco-friendly and cost-effective.
The bio-based ingredients of natural origin impart the natural colours to the final coated quartz silica sand granules and also are non-toxic and bio-degradable in nature. Moreover, bio-based ingredients of natural origin are eco-friendly and cost-effective. The bio–based coating material according to present invention is prepared from bio-pigments or free pigments and organic epoxy binder wherein the bio-pigments are derived from bio-based ingredients of natural origin.
In the preferred aspect of the present invention, the 100% natural silica quartz is coated with coating material which comprises the bio-pigments in range of 0.5% to 4.5% and organic epoxy binder in range of 0.36% to 5.40%, in order to result in the final near to green and eco-friendly bio-based pigment coated silica quartz sand granules.
The results of the ten experimental trials are summarized as follows:
The trials 1, 7 to 9 failed to meet the expected criteria and are disregarded and discarded;
The trials 2 to 6 and 10 are found ok and successful in their tests.

The different bio-pigments can be taken from the bio-based ingredients like Turmeric, Charcoal, Spinach, Beetroot etc. Said bio-pigments were taken in the sample prepared as per parameters of Trial 3 and were named as Sample-T (Turmeric), Sample -C (Charcoal), Sample-S (Spinach).
These samples, Sample-T, Sample -C, Sample-S, of Trial no. 3 were tested at NABL accredited laboratory for below mentioned tests for further verification regarding stability and durability of bio-based pigment coated silica quartz.
1. DSC Test - This test has been taken to study the Enthalpy change and heat flow over a temperature range.
2. TGA Test - This test has been taken at 800°C to study weight loss and thermal degradation.
3. Chemical Resistance Test - This test has been taken to study color change after 7 days in different chemicals like i) Acetic Acid, ii) Citric Acid, iii) Ethyl Alcohol, iv) Hydrochloric Acid.
Said reports are attached herewith as Annex-A. The reports as per Annex-A confirms the stability of Bio Based Pigment Coated Silica Quartz through various test results. Hence, the invention is purposed to provide bio-based sand coating material and preparation method thereof wherein the 100% natural Silica quartz is coated with the bio-pigments to provide a bio-based coated sand granules as near to green product. This invention eliminates the need of chemical coating materials for the quartz sand as the granules of natural quartz are coated with bio- pigments or free pigments in mixture wherein the pigments are derived from bio-based ingredients of natural origin thus are eco-friendly and cost-effective.

4. A method of preparing bio-based pigment coated silica quartz comprises steps of mixing natural silica quartz granules with bio-based pigments and organic epoxy binder.
