Abstract: Spending-based Consolidated Carbon Footprint Calculation System The present invention provides a spending-based consolidated carbon footprint calculation system. The users are allowed to quickly find the carbon emission rate that happens due to his/her activities. The system collects transaction history and identifies the merchant's name and the amount of any kind of spending. The system is integrated with the merchants to provide predetermined product-centric carbon measurement. That predetermined data is used to calculate each unit-based carbon footprint calculation of all the possible merchants of the respective categories. The system uses the captured data from the merchant to calculate the approximate carbon footprint of any individual after purchasing/spending on the same product. The system aggregates the data of the entire family members (added and post permission taken) and calculates real-time to show the total carbon footprint of the family.
Description:
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to the field of environmental science and the internet of things-based data calculation systems, and more particularly, the present invention relates to the spending-based consolidated carbon footprint calculation system that allows the users, merchants, vendors, manufacturers, etc. to quickly find the carbon emission rate that happens due to their activities.
BACKGROUND FOR THE INVENTION:
[002] The following discussion of the background to the invention is intended to facilitate an understanding of the present invention. However, it should be appreciated that the discussion is not an acknowledgment or admission that any of the material referred to was published, known, or part of the common general knowledge in any jurisdiction as of the priority date of the application. The details provided herein the background if belongs to any publication is taken only as a reference for describing the problems, in general terminologies or principles or both of science and technology in the associated prior art.
[003] A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). Greenhous gases, including the carbon-containing gases carbon dioxide and methane, can be emitted through the burning of fossil fuels, land clearance, and the production and consumption of food, manufactured goods, materials, wood, roads, buildings, transportation, and other services.
[004] It is very difficult to calculate the total carbon footprint exactly because of inadequate knowledge of data about the complex interactions between contributing processes, including the influence of natural processes that store or release carbon dioxide.
[005] Till now, all the available carbon footprint calculations are done based on the input given by the users only. There is no way to cross-check the authenticity of the provided data. It may lead to the wrong calculation and a time taking activity to provide in-depth information to the system. Presently, all the calculators provide category-wise carbon footprint of individuals only. No consolidated calculation is available. Also at present, there is no calculator that provides the total carbon footprint of the entire family according to the family members.
[006] One of the existing prior arts GB2470216A discloses a method of calculating the carbon footprint associated with a purchase transaction, such as fuel, petrol, or airline ticket, comprising obtaining transaction details comprising at least an identification of the merchant, and the amount of the transaction. According to the method the transaction details are mined for secondary data, such as the method of payment or amount of gasoline bought, that can be used for refining the carbon footprint calculation. If no secondary data are available the carbon footprint calculation is based on a merchant category code and the transaction amount.
[007] Another existing prior art CN109948901A discloses a carbon footprint accounting method and system for a household detergent product. carbon footprints and grades thereof can be accounted for; The model based on the life cycle of a household detergent products is divided into three stages: an upstream part, a core part, and a downstream part.; the data is divided into field data and background data, unit product comprehensive energy consumption and unit product comprehensive carbon emission two carbon footprint grade indexes, a three-level index value is given, contents of a carbon footprint declaration report and carbon footprint certificate are obtained, and a specific calculation step and an implemented system function module are provided. According to the method, the carbon emission of the product life cycle can be calculated, grading index calculation is carried out according to field data, grading of carbon footprints of the product is achieved, whether low carbon exists or not is judged, and the method is also combined with energy-saving management work of unit product energy consumption limit.
[008] The available carbon footprint calculation systems are not economical, accurate, and time efficient. Further, the available carbon footprint calculation systems are not user-friendly as these systems take time to respond. Also, the available systems are provided with the wrong carbon calculation instructions, which may mislead the user.
[009] In light of the foregoing, there is a need for a Spending-based consolidated carbon footprint calculation system that overcomes problems prevalent in the prior art.
