Specification

DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to the combined seat locking system for two-wheeler electric vehicles. Particularly, the present invention relates to two-wheeler electric vehicles with a combined seat locking system for locking rider seats and Pillion seats.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[002] Two-wheeler electric vehicles are the most common, cost-effective, and convenient means of transportation along short-distance routes. Furthermore, it is a better option as compared to four-wheeler electric vehicles as it can easily weave through crowded traffic that helps in saving time, minimizing stress on daily commute and reduces carbon footprint. Category L1 of vehicles represents a motorcycle with a maximum speed of 45 km/h and an engine capacity of 50cc or less if equipped with a thermos engine, or 0.5 kilo watts if equipped with an electric motor.

[003] The main problem with the existing two-wheeler vehicle seating arrangements is that it is usually a single bench seat that may be locked and clamped to the body of the vehicle. The seat may be hinged from the front or from the back part of the body of the vehicle. Further, upon opening the seat, the only space available is for the storage of a helmet or such article, which is the only space available. In many other two wheelers seating arrangements, the space below the seat is even lesser than to keep the helmet.

[004] The present day two-wheeler vehicles may have a single seat that has no scope to install luggage box below the Pillion seat.

[005] There are several patent applications that discloses a seat locking arrangement in two wheeler vehicles.

[006] One such US Patent Application no. US4462634A, discloses a two-part seating assembly, comprising a passenger seat and an operator seat, defined for a motorcycle wherein the driver’s seat is hinged on the one side of the principal base and is allow to do angular motion perpendicular to the principal base. In the assembly, the adjustment mechanism and the space for the operator's seat are concealed from view, regardless of the operative position of the latter, to thereby maintain an attractive appearance.

[007] Another USD patent application no. US5533783A discloses a divided seat for a motor vehicle, especially for a motorcycle, is described in which both seat parts are removable and mountable independently of one another. Mounting is accomplished by a central locking mechanism controlled by a central lock. With the seat part for the passenger removed, the part of the vehicle body located below is used as an elongated luggage rack or storage area. This storage area can be provided with a cover that closes a container located beneath for tools and the like. A separate locking block permits locking this cover when the seat part is removed, likewise using the central lock.

[008] Therefore, in view of the challenges associated with the above state of art, there is a need for a locking system for seating arrangement in two-wheeler electric vehicles.

OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION

[009] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a combined locking arrangement for an electric two-wheeler vehicle, wherein the rider seat and the Pillion seat are locked with a common locking mechanism.

[0010] Another objective of the present invention is to reduce the cost of locking mechanism and ease the process of seat locking in an electric two-wheeler vehicle.

[0011] Another objective of the present invention is to provide ease of access to battery and luggage box.

[0012] Yet another objective of the present invention is to provide minimal cost of maintenance of the seat locking system in an electric two-wheeler vehicle.

[0013] Other objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, the aspects of the present invention are disclosed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0014] The present invention relates to the combined seat locking system for two-wheeler electric vehicles. The present invention comprises of an easy and cost-effective mechanism for a two-wheeler electric vehicle. The present invention provides a seat locking arrangement wherein the rider seat is hinged to the principal base of the body of the vehicle, and the lock is attached in back side of the rider seat. Said Lock bar in the present invention is connected with a Lock bar receptacle of the Pillion seat to provide the combined seat locking. The seats of the present invention are locked in a simple manner by a combined lock to the body of the vehicle.

[0026] Accordingly, the present invention relates to combined seat locking system of two-wheeler electric vehicle. The present embodiment comprises of different seats for rider and passenger and said two seats are combined together while in the resting position, with the help of a common locking system.

[0027] In an embodiment, a combined seat locking system for a two-wheeler vehicle (100) having a body, comprising: a rider seat (001) attached to the body through a first hinge mechanism; a lock bar (003) attached to the rider seat; a pillion rider seat (006) attached to the body through a second hinge mechanism; a lock bar receptacle (004) formed on the body, adapted to engage the lock bar (003) in locking position for locking the rider seat (001) and the pillion rider seat (006) together.

[0028] The rider seat (001) is attached to the body of two wheeler through a first hinge mechanism and allowing the rider seat to pivot open and pivot closed, wherein the first hinge mechanism may consist of a set of rotating pins or rods that provide smooth movement when lifting or lowering the seat. The hinge mechanism ensures that the rider seat (001) remains aligned with the lock bar receptacles (004) when closed, allowing the lock bar (003) to engage securely.

[0029] The lock bar (003) is attached to the rider seat (001). The lock bar is a protrusion extending out from the back side of the rider seat (001). The lock bar (003) is adapted to move in locking and unlocking position through a control interface activated through a key or electronically. The lock bar (003) may be engaged in locking position through a spring.

[0030] The lock bar receptacle (004) is a stationary part formed on the body of the two wheeler. The lock bar receptacle (004) is adapted to receive and hold the lock bar (003) in locked position, when the seat is closed. The lock bar receptacle (004) prevents the rider seat (001) and pillion rider seat (006) from being opened without being properly unlocked by user.

[0031] The pillion and rider seat (001) of the vehicle are locked by a common seat lock, where the Lock bar receptacle (004) is attached to the Pillion seat (006) and the Lock bar (003) is affixed to the rider seat (001).

[0032] The present invention provides two-part seat assembly for a two wheeler motorcycle, in which rider seat (001) and the Pillion seat (006) is connected with each other through a single lock system. The said pillion and rider seats (001) are laid parallel to the principal base of the vehicle to perform the combined locking.

[0033] The locking mechanism is actuated by resting the Pillion seat (006) on principal base followed by rider seat (001). The said Lock bar (003) of rider seat (001) is penetrate into the lock bar receptacle (004) to complete the locking mechanism.

[0034] In an embodiment, the present invention also provides a method for locking the rider seat (001) and the pillion rider seat (006) using the locking system (100) of the present invention. The method comprises the following steps:-

• pushing the pillion rider seat (006) on the body in a pivotal motion through the first hinge mechanism;
• pushing the rider seat (001) on the body in a pivotal motion through the second hinge mechanism, so as to put the lock bar (003) inside the lock bar receptacle (004);
• locking of the rider seat (001) and the pillion rider seat (006) through engagement of the lock bar (003) in locking position by the lock bar receptacle (004);

[0035] The advantages of the present invention are enlisted herein:
• The present invention provides a combined locking arrangement for an electric two-wheeler vehicle, wherein the rider seat and the Pillion seat are locked with a common locking mechanism.
• The present invention reduces the cost of locking mechanism and ease the process of seat locking in an electric two-wheeler vehicle.
• The present invention provides ease of access to battery and luggage box.
• The present invention provides minimal cost of maintenance of the seat locking system in an electric two-wheeler vehicle.
• The present invention is easy to use and cost efficient.

[0036] While this invention has been described in connection with what is presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments, but, on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the scope of the appended claims.
