Plastic Refill Recycler

Abstract: "Plastic Refill Recycler Is machine built for the purpose of recycling empty plastic refills by converting them into plastic beads. The working mechanism of the makers is divided into 5 sections. The 5 sections along- with their respective functions, are as follows: 1) Feed-Section and Isolation: It contains the plastic refills which are to be processed through the machine. The refills are further isolated from its bundle deposited in the container. 2) Melting: This section performs pyrolysis for converting the solid plastic refills to a semi-molten state so that it gets soft and the hollowness within the refill Is eliminated, hence converting It Into long strands of plastic tubular in shape. 3) Cooling and Gripping: This section cools down the semi-molten plastic Strands in order to solidify it. These are then passed through gripping wheel's which will flatten it and further ensures that hollowness is eliminated within them. 4)Cutting: This section cuts down the already cooled, solidified plastic strands into small pieces of considerable length. A 115 mm long refill will approximately give 23 pieces of 5 mm length each. It can be varied by varying some parameters such as altering the operational speed of DC motors used for isolation and cutting sections. 5)Collection: This section finally receives the small plastic pieces i.e., the plastic beads. The section will segregate any metal nibs out and only give out plastic beads. The following points should be noted for smooth operation of the machine: A. The above-described steps must be followed in sequence. B. It is advised to remove the metal nibs from the refills for better efficiency of the machine C. It is recommended to use a completely used plastic refill as the chemicals present in ink might pose a threat in the melting stage.”

Specification

DESC:Hereby is provided the detailed function of each of the above-mentioned components in the list:-

1.Feed Hopper Container-It is a large container which will hold and act as a deposit for users to dispose their empty plastic refills. It is shaped like a funnel at its end so that refills slide down one-by-one through its cross-section. Feed Hopper Container (1) & Motorized Gripping Wheel I (2) both comprise of the first stage of Containing and Isolating Plastic Refills from user.

2.Motorized Gripping Wheel-I -In order to isolate each Plastic Refill from its bundle, two rubber wheels are kept next to each other with a Gap (approximately size of diameter of a plastic refill). Both wheels are belt driven or gear driven and powered by a low rpm DC motor operated at a very slow speed. (2) will grip each isolated refill and pass them down slowly to the next section-(3)

3. Melting Section- Melting Section is the second stage of our plastic refill recycling process. Here the hollow tubular plastic refills are made to reach a semi-molten state for eliminating hollowness of the tubes and thereby converting them from hollow tubes of plastic refill to long strands of plastic cylindrical in shape. Melting Section mainly comprises of a spring(diameter of spring should be more than that of diameter of plastic refill),a Heat Gun(4) and window slits on two sides.

4. Heat Gun- Heat Gun is the main component responsible for functioning of the melting section. Heat Gun is constructed by taking inspiration from other standard heat guns which are available readily. A body made of PVC-pipe within which a cylindrical Aluminium sheet is fixed. Within Aluminium Cylinder, two Mica -sheets are inserted in the shape of a plus-sign (+) around which Nichrome-wire, the heating element is winded around. A fan powered by a DC Motor is attached at its end to throw hot-air to the subject (here, Plastic refill) in front of it.

5. Cooling & Gripping Section-In order to carry out cylindrical shaped further of the semi-Molten cylindrical shaped long strands of plastic, they must be cooled down rapidly so that the hollowness is eliminated by helping it solidify. Cooling section comprises of two fans powered by high RPM DC Motor operated at full capability of the motors, a spring for holding the Long Strands keeping them straight. Finally, another Motorized Gripping wheel is placed to tightly grip the long tubular strands of solidified plastic.

6. Motorized Gripping Wheel-II – Similar to the construction of Motorized Gripping Wheel-I is mentioned in (2), it also functions similarly. It is a sub-part of Cooling & Gripping Section (5). Purpose of gripping wheel is here is to flatten it and tightly hold the tubular long strands of plastic to eliminate any last hollowness within the strands and finally pass it down to the blade at a slow rate for cutting

7. Cutting Section- This section comprises of the 4th stage of plastic refill recycling process. It only comprises of a sharp blade which is rotated at a moderate speed with a high torque, so that the blade upon hitting the long tubular strands of plastic is out into approximately 23 small pieces of length 5mm from a 115 mm long plastic refill. The tubular long strands are to be passed down slowly to the blade. Blade is driven by a belt-shaft which is a again driven by a pair of one Big Crown Gear and one Small Crown Gear directly attached to the shaft of a high RPM DC Motor operated at a moderate speed.

8. Power Supply & Control- In order t distribute and supply as well as Control the different DC motors present in each section and the Heating element of the Heat Gun (4) also, a single power unit is placed at the Bottom most level of the whole machine. Connection wires from sections – (2), (4), (5), (6) and (7) will lead to the power unit and a single female DC connector will act as One Outlet. All connections are arranged according to Operational Voltage (Parallel).

9. PWM DC Motor Speed Controller-I- A DC Speed Control is added in the Power unit (8) for operating the Low RPM DC Motors at a very slow speed. Connection wires from DC motors of both Motorized Gripping Wheel-I & II (Sections (2), (6)) will lead to Power unit (8) where it shall be controlled via one Rocker Switch for ON/OFF and a knob for controlling speed.

10. Power Supply to Heating element in Heat Gun – A thick pair of electrical wires is used to supply electricity to the heating element of the heat gun i.e., Nichrome wire directly. The pair of thick wires will be joined with a 2-pin plug and it shall receive power separately. One Rocker Switch is used to switch it ON/OFF.

11. Power Supply to Fan motors of Cooling Section & Heat Gun- For constructing fans, High RPM motors are used at their full capability and thus no speed regulation is required for these 3 DC motors. Connections wires from Fan Of Heat Gun and two fans present in the cooling Section will lead to the power unit. A Rocker Switch is given for switching them ON/OFF.

12. PWM DC Motor Speed Controller-II – A second DC Speed Control is added in the power unit for operating the high RPM DC motor at a moderately slow/fast speed. Connection wires will lead from high RPM DC Motor of Cutting Section to the Power Unit where it shall be controlled via one Rocker Switch for ON/OFF and a knob for controlling the speed.

13. Female DC Power Connector: Connection wires from sections-9,11,12 are connected parallelly since they operate at a Same Voltage Soldered joints ultimately joined to the Female DC Power Connector/out let via a pair of connection-wires. The Female DC Power Outlet will be plugged in with a AC/DC-Power adapter which will be itself plugged into a Mains-connection.

14. Collection Section: After the long tubular Strands of Plastic are cut into small pieces of 5mm length by the Blade of Cutting section -7 they are finally collected in.
Mass-product collection tray-15. Collection Section consists of two collection trays 15 and 16.

15. Mass Product Collection-tray-15 - It receives the end-products of the Plastic Refill recycling processing i.e.," Plastic Beads" which when passed through a dipping solution for cleaning and removing impurities it will become ready to use as a raw material for other Plastic products.

16. Excess metal extractor and Collection tray: The bottom-most collection tray of Collection section (14) is added for collecting the metal-nibs (0.5mm tips) of the, Plastic Refills when cut-down by the Blades. This collection tray consists of two small donut shaped magnets and separated from collection tray-15 by a metal mesh so that only the metal nibs fall into it segregating them out of the end-product. (Collection-tray-16 can be removed from system if Metal nibs are initially Plucked out of Plastic refills by the user manually) ,CLAIMS:We Claim:
1. A smart plastic refill recycler which recycles the waste refill plastics

2. The recycler creates the raw materials from plastic refill for making other materials.

3. The recycler reduces the wastage of plastics.

4. It helps to reduce the environmental pollution due to plastics.

5. It produces plastic beads from plastic refill so that the beads can be used easily as raw materials

6. Finally, it is an easy to use and cost effective plastic refill recycler.
