A Method Of Producing Sponge Iron

Abstract: TITLE: “A METHOD OF PRODUCING SPONGE IRON” ABSTRACT Present disclosure relates to a method of producing sponge iron is disclosed. The method includes feeding iron oxide having a first composition (in wt%) into a metallurgical vessel and heating the iron oxide having the first composition (in wt%) by a first mode of heating to a first predetermined temperature and for a first predetermined time period. The first mode of heating is performed in a hydrogen rich environment, to obtain iron oxide having a second composition. Further, the method includes heating the iron oxide having the second composition by a second mode of heating to a second predetermined temperature and for a second predetermined time period, to produce sponge iron. The method aids in usage and reduction of hematite ore without usage of carbon as reducing agent, thereby reducing carbon footprint. Further, the method aids in faster and efficient iron making.
