Abstract: A device 102 includes a plurality of programmable multicolour LED arrays 104 capable of showcasing national flags symbolically for all countries, a plurality of sensors, a GPS receiver 108, and a control unit 106 in communication with a master controller 120 in a network 130. The control unit 106 includes one or more interfaces 114, one or more processors configured to receive a geographic location using the GPS receiver 108, audio through at least one sensor 110, images through at least one image sensor 112 to display symbolical flag images as per the identified location through the programmable multicolour LED array 104. The device 102 disclosed is an electronic baton to work in communication with the master controller 120 that transmits data to a web server 140. The selection of interface 114 between device 102 and the master controller 120 is based on configuration.
Description:TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the technical field of embedded devices. In particular, it pertains to multi-function electronic baton using various sensors to display symbolically the national flag of a visiting country for event branding.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Baton relay is an important event in many of the games which symbolizes team spirit and cooperation. The Baton takes a global journey in many multi-sport events for awareness and branding of the events like the Olympics where the "Olympic Torch" goes from the hosting country to its member countries and returns to the hosting country.
[0003] Conventionally, the torches used for the journey, are flamed torches where combustible material on the torch is consumed by fire which could result in burns to the torch bearer, a flashlight or lanterns results in fairly intense light in a single direction, to illuminate objects, or portions of objects, provides very little ambient light. These torches pose many disadvantages including their weight, filling gas from time to time, heating impact from the flame to the bearer, etc.

[0006] Another Patent Document DE202010007106U1 also discloses an LED flags as net National flags as LED net, include a light net which creates a flag of the country with the corresponding LED colors, which are implemented exactly according to the specifications. The invention is in the design of the LED light network with LED lights that need to be arranged so that the flag is recognized as such.
[0007] While the referred patent documents disclose different types of illuminating methods, there is a possibility of providing a more efficient solution to configure a device for illuminating multiple images.
[0008] There is, therefore, a need to provide a simple, compact, and cost-effective solution that can eliminate the abovementioned problems, drawbacks, and limitations and also improve the aesthetic with electronic technology features making it superior compared to conventional batons.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0009] A general object of the present disclosure is to provide an electronic baton that has a dynamic appearance changing according to the country and location to delight the baton bearer and the spectators.
[0010] An object of the present disclosure is to provide a simple, compact, handheld, and cost-effective solution with programmable multicolour LED arrays, and a plurality of sensors to operate the electronic baton in standalone mode.
[0011] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide a lightweight and rechargeable battery-powered electronic baton that can be carried through any mode without risk.
[0012] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide architecture for changing colour patterns through one or more control.

SUMMARY
[0014] The present disclosure relates generally to the technical field of embedded devices. In particular, it pertains to multi-function electronic baton using various sensors to display symbolically the national flag of a visiting country for event branding.
[0015] In an aspect, the proposed device to display symbolic images includes a plurality of programmable multicolor LED arrays configured to display a plurality of symbolic images with dynamic change in appearance, and a control unit in communication with a master controller in a network. The control unit includes one or more interfaces, one or more processors operatively coupled with memory storing instructions executable by at least one processor, The control unit is configured to receive a geographic location using a GPS receiver to identify place; receive audio through a sensor to record, decode, and map to lookup table from text to symbolic image pattern; receive images captured through an image sensor to transfer them to the master controller with one or more digital tags; display symbolic images pattern as per the identified location to display through the programmable multicolour LED array; and transmit data to the master controller for further transmission to a web server.

The architecture and electronics of device 102 are designed for receiving and processing commands from master controller 120. One or more interface 114 for transfer of data from one or more modules to another, like LED driver for programmability, etc. are configured with the control unit.

Each LED arrays 104 disposed along the longitudinal axis of device 102, includes a plurality of energy-efficient programmable LEDs to display national flags of different countries in their colours and designs. During the journey, the dynamic appearance change according to the country and the location bringing warm feelings to the electronic baton bearer and the spectators.

This is achieved through multiple pulse width modulation (PWM) channels, inbuilt flash, one or more serial/I2C interfaces for programmability, and inbuilt timers for generating precise timing signals included in the LED driver 202. To meet this requirement an on-chip microcontroller board 204 is used.

Such multiple displays require programmability, multi-colour capability, low power consumption, wide viewing angle, required brilliance, and compact size. The surface-mounted LEDs 104 are distributed throughout the structure marked in device 102 with a complex partitioning of emission of light.
[0045] In an embodiment, power management PCB 208, signal processing PCB 206, and a GPS 108 PCB are stacked one below the other along with other PCBs, towards the top of device 102 where more volume is available. The Bluetooth module 210 needs to be very close to the PCB stacked. The stacking reduced the requirement for multiple wires. The microphone 110 being user interactive is placed in a separate PCB near device 102. The camera sensor 112 is placed at the front with a separate PCB, the processor PCB 206 is kept at the back due to the space constraint, and a flexible cable running from the camera PCB to the processor PCB. The power management PCB is fed with the power from battery 118.

The functions for device 102 start step-wise and step 302 state to switch ON device 102 switch on the master controller 120. This initiates the sync command 304 to sync device 102. a plurality of programmable multicolour LED arrays (104), configured to display a plurality of symbolic images with dynamic change in appearance; and
a control unit (106) in communication with a master controller (120) in a network (130), wherein the control unit (106) comprises one or more interfaces (114), one or more processors (204, and 206) operatively coupled with memory storing instructions executable by at least one processors (206), wherein the control unit (106) is configured to:
receive geographic location using a GPS receiver (108) to identify place;
receive audio through a sensor (110) to record, decode, and map to lookup table from text to symbolic image pattern;
receive images captured through an image sensor (112) to transfer them to the master controller (120) with one or more digital tags;
display symbolic images pattern as per the identified location to display through the programmable multicolour LED array (104); and
transmit data to the master controller (120) for further transmission to a web server (140).
2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device (102) is an electronic baton capable of showcasing national flags symbolically for all countries by generating flag colour patterns.
3. The device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the selection of a symbolic representation of national flags is done using a master controller mode, an audio message mode, and a geo-location message mode.
4. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the data transmitted to the master controller (120) includes location, audio, and video data, wherein one or more interfaces (114) between the device (102) and the master controller (120) is selected based on configuration.
5. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the audio sensor (110) is a microphone, and the audio message is recorded, tagged with time, and location, for transfer to the master controller (120).
6. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the image sensor (112) is a camera sensor to capture the images and transfers them to the master controller (120) with required digital tags.

The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the electric power to the devices (102) is obtained from an in-built battery (118), wherein the electric power is managed to do efficient usage of the battery (118) for a longer duration of operation of the device (102) through a power management module (208).
8. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the master controller (120) is selected from a desktop, laptop, personal digital assistant, and smartphone.
9. A method (400) to display symbolic images through a device (102), the method (400) comprising:
a plurality of programmable multicolour LED arrays (104), configured to display a plurality of symbolic images with dynamic change in appearance; and
a control unit (106) in communication with a master controller (120) in a network (130), wherein the control unit (106) comprises one or more interfaces (114), one or more processors (206) operatively coupled with memory storing instructions executable by at least one processors (206), wherein the control unit (106) is configured for:
receiving geographic location using a GPS receiver (108) to identify place;
receiving audio through a sensor (110) to record, decode, and map to lookup table from text to symbolic image pattern;
receiving images captured through an image sensor (112) to transfer them to the master controller (120) with one or more digital tags;
displaying symbolic images pattern as per the identified location to display through the programmable multicolour LED array (104); and
transmitting data to the master controller (120) for further transmission to a web server (140).
10. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the automatic audio recognition through the master controller (120) operating in the network (130) is able to identify the speaker to tag the message with name, time, and location, wherein the data of the selected speaker is pre-recorded in the memory.
