The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.

TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention relates to a vehicle with an improved provision for stowing of a plurality of components in a rear portion of the vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] A vehicle generally has various components which are stored at several locations inside and/or outside the vehicle. The components such as the stepney or spare wheel of the vehicle are disposed in the trunk of the vehicle and other components such as the charger of the vehicle (in case of electric vehicle) or other electronic devices. Further, the control unit of the vehicle are disposed in several different locations inside the vehicle. Such components in the conventional vehicle is located under the passenger seats, under the driver seat, or in the storage compartment of the vehicle. Sometimes different components are kept at different locations. These different components can be a stepney/spare wheel of the vehicle, or can be a vehicle charger, vehicle jack or certain tools, etc. can be placed at different locations such as under the driver seat, under the passenger seat, behind the passenger seat, in the storage compartment, etc. This results in design complexity, and also reduces the accessibility of such components of the vehicle. Since, these components are placed at different random locations such as under the seats, and/or in the storage compartments, these components reduce the packaging efficiency of the vehicle and lead to a lack of storage space for the luggage of the users of the vehicle. This lack of sufficient storage space inside the vehicle is undesirable to the user/ passenger of the vehicle. In case of three-wheeled vehicles, the storage space is even less considering the smaller structure and further inclusion of gas cylinders or fuel tanks and other items in the limited space. The different components in that case have to be effectively accommodated. For example, in case of electric three wheelers, chargers along with cable are conventionally placed below the driver seat, and stepney is disposed randomly in the storage compartment, etc. Since, in a three-wheeled vehicle, the breadth of the vehicle is also limited, the space available in the storage compartment is minimal, and the conventional methods of storing the components do not allow storage of other components. Due to the conventional storage configurations, if the stepney is placed in the storage compartment, other components could not be accommodated due to lack of available storage space, particularly in the conventional three-wheeled vehicles. Since, most of the three-wheeled vehicles are used for commercial purposes, effective storage space and better packaging efficiency of the vehicle is required. However, the conventional mounting configuration does not allow efficient alignment of the components such as stepney within the storage compartments of the three-wheeled vehicle. Due to this problem of lack of proper packaging efficiency, many users are forced to shift to bigger sized vehicles in order to find an effective solution. Some existing solutions in the market provide allow placement of the components beneath the passenger/driver seats but that creates problem of ease access and disturbing a seated passenger every time the storage compartment below the seat is to be accessed.
[0003] In certain cases, the components are disposed horizontally on the floor of the vehicle due to which the user has to exert more pressure in order to place/remove the components from their position. The user had to face difficulty in removing or putting the components into the storage compartments of the vehicle. Additionally, these components if placed at different locations sometimes lead to difficulty in accessibility of such components during the need of the components. Moreover, due to lack of accessibility of such components, and due to placement at random locations, such components caused hindrance in servicing of these components and other parts which may be hidden due to improper placement of such components. Further, if such components are placed outside the vehicle or at locations which is accessible to the general public, could lead to theft or damage of such components, thereby causing unnecessary loss to the user of the vehicle.
[0004] Thus, conventional methods known in the art for placement of the components have associated limitations and problems pertaining to lack of storage space, difficulty in accessibility of the components, lack of aesthetics, prone to theft and is overall undesirable to the user of the vehicle. Therefore, there is a need for a better packaging configuration/ stowing of the plurality of components that can overcome all of the above-mentioned problems and limitations and also overcome other problems which are known in the art and which also provide a theft-proof solution, and easier accessibility

[0033] Figure 1 and Figure 2 illustrate a perspective view of a vehicle (100) as per one embodiment of the present invention. For example, the vehicle (100) is a three-wheeled passenger type vehicle, a three-wheeled cargo type vehicle a four wheeled type vehicle, a multi axle type vehicle, or the like. In one of the embodiments of the present disclosure the vehicle (100) may be an Electric Vehicle (EV), a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) based vehicle and have components suitable for traction. The vehicle (100) is made of a frame assembly (101) and a cover body (102). The cover body (102) covers the frame assembly (101). The cover body (102) divides the vehicle (100) into two portions, a front portion (not shown) and a rear portion (104). Accordingly, in one aspect it can also be said that the frame assembly (101) also has a corresponding front portion and rear portion. The rear portion (104) is further divided into two portions comprising a seating portion (105) (shown in Fig. 3) and a storage portion (106) (shown in Fig. 3). The seating portion (105) is the portion where a seat assembly (not shown) of the vehicle (100) is installed for seating one or more passengers. The storage portion (106) is the portion which is made for storing the luggage of a user/ one or more passengers of the vehicle and storing other components of the vehicle. The storage portion (106) is configured to store a plurality of components (200). The plurality of components (200) are stowed in the storage portion (106) of the vehicle (100) at a predetermined angle (P), where the predetermined angle (P) is calculated between the one or more components and a floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100). The stowing of the plurality of components (200) at the predetermined angle (P) allows accessibility of all of the plurality of components that are stowed inside the storage portion (106). The floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100) includes a floor (not shown) of the rear portion (104) and the floor of the storage portion (106). Further, stowing at the predetermined angle (P) provides a better packaging efficiency of the plurality of components (200) inside the storage portion (106). The storage portion (106) has limited space available and storing an increased number of parts inside the storage portion (106) is a challenge that the present invention has solved by providing the best solution of stowing the plurality of components (200) inside the storage portion (106). The predetermined angle (P) may in one embodiment be zero degrees. This embodiment (not shown) would cater to a scenario where the plurality of components is stowed parallel to the floorboard (108). This can include the aspect where the plurality of components are substantially in contact with the floorboard (108) and mounted on an independent mounting assembly (not shown). In another embodiment, the predetermined angle ranges from 20 – 45 degrees which is a preferred range. The values of the predetermined angle (P) are also dependent upon the stowing arrangement of the plurality of components and also other various factors including the size of the plurality of components (200), and the available space inside the storage portion (106). The plurality of components (200) also has a predetermined clearance (C) between each of the plurality of components (200). The predetermined clearance (C) can be calculated based on the clearance between the plurality of components (200) which are adjacent to each other. The predetermined clearance (C) plays an important role in the improved accessibility of the plurality of components (200). The predetermined clearance (C) allows easier accessibility to the plurality of components (200) and enables assembling and disassembling the plurality of components (200) without causing any interaction or hindrance or interference with the other plurality of components (200). This stowing arrangement of the plurality of components (200) having the predetermined clearance (C) along with disposition at the predetermined angle also improves the serviceability of the plurality of components (200) and the other components of the vehicle (100). The plurality of components (200) having the predetermined clearance (C) and being at the predetermined angle (P) also improves the packaging efficiency of the storage portion (106) of the vehicle (100), since it allows each of the plurality of components (200) to be stored in a in the rear portion of the vehicle without any interaction or accidental impact oof the plurality of components with each other during a running condition of the vehicle.
[0034] Further, it is pertinent to note that in order to increase packaging efficiency of the vehicle there are multiple ways in which the plurality of components (200) may be stowed inside the storage portion (106), but stowing the plurality of components (200) such that there is no compromise with the accessibility to the plurality of components (200) without compromising on the storage space in the vehicle is a challenge. The present invention solves such a challenge by providing a solution that not only provides increased packaging efficiency but also provides improved accessibility to the plurality of components. In one embodiment, the values of the predetermined clearance (C) may range from 25-50 millimetres (mm) between each of the plurality of components (200), this embodiment provides the best values of the predetermined clearance (C) of the stowing arrangement of the plurality of components (200). The plurality of components (200) can include a spare wheel (201), a charging device (202), an electronic control unit (not shown), and a lifting device (203) or a combination thereof in other embodiments of the present invention. The spare wheel (201) of the vehicle (100) is a bulky component and requires safe but easily accessible mounting while making it difficult to achieve effective packaging efficiency of the storage portion (106) of the vehicle. Further, due to the bulkiness of the spare wheel (201), the user has to undergo a lot of efforts in accessing the spare wheel in the case where the spare wheel (201) is placed on the floorboard (108) of the vehicle. Hence, as per a preferred embodiment, the spare wheel (201) is stowed in the rear portion (106) at a predetermined angle (P) which ensures the best accessibility to the spare wheel (201) of the vehicle (100). Further, to improve the packaging efficiency while also improving the accessibility to the spare wheel (201), the spare wheel/stepney (201) is placed at the predetermined angle and has the predetermined clearance (C) between the plurality of components (200).
[0035] In one embodiment, the spare wheel (201) may also have a predetermined gap from the cover body (102) around the storage portion (106). The predetermined gap ensures that there is no interference or hindrance caused by the cover body (102) during installation and removal thereby further improving the accessibility of the spare wheel (201). The charging device (202) as per the preferred embodiment is a portable charging unit. The charging device (202) is used to power an energy storage unit (not shown) of the vehicle (100). The charging device (202) which is to be stowed in the storage portion (106) usually consists of a charging adaptor (not shown), an electricity transmission member (not shown) and a charging port (not shown) which is collectively called as the charging device (202). The charging device (202) in one embodiment is stored inside a container which is then stored in the storage portion (106) of the vehicle (100). The charging device (202) is primarily applicable to electric vehicles and may also apply to hybrid vehicles. However, the present invention is not limited to electric vehicles and is also applicable to other types of vehicles (100), such as a multi axle vehicle. In another embodiment, the electronic control unit and the charging device (202) are stowed parallel to each other. The electronic control unit can be an electronic control unit which may have different functions such as operation of the vehicle (100), operation of the energy storage unit, charging operation of the vehicle (100), etc. In one embodiment, the electronic control unit may be placed in place of the lifting device (203). The lifting device (203), also called a jack, is used to lift the vehicle (100) for various purposes such as changing the wheels, or servicing the vehicle, etc. The lifting device (203) is generally stored at different locations in conventional vehicles, now the same is stowed in the storage portion (106) of the vehicle (100) in the present invention for better packaging efficiency of the vehicle (100). In one embodiment, the lifting device (203) may also be stowed inside an inner circumferential cavity (not shown) of the spare wheel (201). The lifting device (203) may also be stored in a container which is then stowed inside the inner circumferential cavity of the spare wheel. This would further improve the packaging efficiency of the storage portion (106) of the vehicle. The cover body (102) of the vehicle (100) is provided with a lockable tail door (107) in a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The cover body (102) covers the storage portion (106) and eliminates accessibility from the outer side of the cover body (102) and provides an exclusive and restricted access to the storage portion (106) of the vehicle (100). Since the plurality of components (200) are stored inside the storage portion (106) the plurality of components (200) are secured inside the storage portion (106) and are only accessible through the lockable tail door (107) thereby providing a theft proof stowing arrangement of the plurality of components (200) where the lockable tail door (107) provides the exclusive and restricted access to the plurality of components (200). Due to the implementation of such stowing arrangement of the plurality of components (200), the packaging efficiency of the vehicle is increased and also the accessibility of the plurality of components (200) is improved while also securing them and providing a theft-proof stowing arrangement of the plurality of components (200).
[0036] Figure 3 illustrates a top view of the rear portion (104) of the vehicle (100). As per the preferred embodiment, the plurality of components (200) is stowed in the storage portion (106) of the rear portion (104) of the vehicle (100) at the predetermined angle (P) from the floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100). This configuration also involves a predetermined clearance (C) between each of the plurality of components (200). Since the preferred embodiment shows the disposition of the plurality of components (200) at the predetermined angle (P) from the floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100). The disposition of the plurality of components (200) at the predetermined angle (P) may be done by various methods such as introducing a mounting assembly (103) which holds the plurality of components (200). The plurality of components (200) may also be connected to the mounting assembly (103) such as via a detachable connection via fastening members, etc. It may also be possible in another embodiment to make the floorboard (108) inclined at the predetermined angle (P) and then mount the plurality of components (200) on the floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100). In another embodiment, the plurality of components (200) may also be mounted on the mounting assembly (103) on the floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100). In another embodiment, the mounting assembly (103) can comprise a plurality of independent mounting members (not shown). The plurality of the independent mounting members may be connected to each of the plurality of the components (200) while directly being attached to the floorboard (108) of the vehicle (100). Thus, the present invention enables the plurality of components (200) to be stowed at a predetermined angle (P) and such disposition can be achieved by various means as explained above. Further, the positioning of the plurality of independent mounting members is determined such that there exists the predetermined clearance (C) between the plurality of components (200) at the same time which is also crucial in order to get the best accessibility of the plurality of components (200) of the vehicle (100). Hence, it may also be possible that the floor board (108) or the frame assembly (101) or the mounting assembly (300), depending on chosen embodiment, are made such that the plurality of components (200) are stowed at the predetermined angle (P). This also achieves the predetermined clearance (C) between the plurality of components.
[0037] As per another embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of components (200) may be stowed in a particular configuration for further increased packaging efficiency. In one embodiment, the charging device (202) and the electronic control unit are adjacent to the spare wheel (201). In another embodiment, only the charging device (202) is placed adjacent to the spare wheel (201). In another embodiment, only the electronic control unit is disposed adjacent to the spare wheel (201). In another embodiment, the same configuration may also be that the spare wheel (201) is stowed in the centre of the storage portion (106), the charging device (202) is stowed on the left side of the spare wheel (201), and the electronic control unit is stowed on the right side of the spare wheel (201) when viewed from a rear side of the vehicle. In another embodiment, it may also have an opposite orientation, in which the charging device (202) may be stowed on the right side of the spare wheel (201) and the electronic control unit may be stowed on the left side of the vehicle when viewed from the rear side of the vehicle. In another embodiment, the lifting device (203) may also be stowed in the right side of the spare wheel (201), and in another embodiment, it may also be stowed on the left side of the spare wheel (201). The lifting device (203) can be stowed underneath the spare wheel (201) when viewed from the rear side of the vehicle (100). As mentioned earlier, the lifting device (203) may also be stowed inside the spare wheel (201), and the same is also applicable in such embodiment.
[0038] Therefore, while the storage of the conventional vehicles, such as three-wheeled and certain four-wheeled vehicles, did not allow storage of the plurality of components (200) in the same storage portion (106), the present invention has provided a solution of securely accommodating all of these components in the storage portion (106) without any need for additional storage expansion. It was a challenge to put these many parts in the storage of the vehicle (100) which is made possible by the present invention by providing the plurality of components (200) in the storage portion (106) without changing any further dimensions of the vehicle, and without changing any layout of the vehicle. The present invention has provided a simple solution which can solve the problems of securely accomodating multiple components in low storage space available in the storage portion (106) of vehicles like the three-wheeled vehicle. Due to the lack of available space inside the storage portion (106), and improper packaging efficiency as per the conventional arrangement of the plurality of components (200), it was a challenge to accommodate the plurality of components inside the storage portion (106) which has been solved by the present invention.
[0039] Thus, as per the present subject matter, a vehicle in which a plurality of components is stowed. As per the conventional configurations, such as in known three wheeled vehicles, if one plurality of components (200) which has a bigger size, such as the spare wheel (201), is put into the storage portion (106), the other plurality of components (200) such as the lifting device (203), the electronic control unit, and the charging device (202) are not able to be placed effectively. Even if the plurality of components (200) are anyhow forcefully loaded in the storage portion (106), there would be not enough clearance for accessibility of the plurality of components (200). In order to access the plurality of components (200) which are smaller in size, the plurality of components (200) that are bigger have to be first removed, and only after that the smaller plurality of components (200) can be accessed. This could be very problematic for the user of the vehicle, particularly, three wheeled vehicle and some four wheeled vehicles with storage space limitations. This makes the overall configuration/layout of the vehicle undesirable. Thus, the present invention, in its preferred embodiment for a three wheeled vehicle, enables stowing the plurality of components (200) at a predetermined angle and having a predetermined clearance (C) between each of the plurality of components (200). This not only provides a solution to solve the problems of lack of storage space and inability to load all of the plurality of components (200) in the storage portion (106) but also have allowed better accessibility of the plurality of components (200).
[0040] According to the above disclosure, the present invention provides various advantages. The plurality of components (200) being stowed at the predetermined angle (P) significantly increases the packaging efficiency of the storage portion (106) of the vehicle (100). The plurality of components (200) having the predetermined clearance (C) between each of the plurality of components (200) further improves the accessibility and ease of serviceability of the plurality of components (200).
