Abstract: Title: Fusible Plug for Brake Wheels Abstract Fusible Plug(6) made of a low melting point eutectic alloy is designed to be installed on the Wheel Rim inside tyre to avoid a catastrophic failure due to tyre burst and melt away to release the tyre pressure gradually. This will also prevent the Wheel Rim material to lose its Mechanical Properties. The Fusible Plug assembled with a heat sensitive Fusible Insert (2) ensures safe tyre deflation before excessive heat (due to brake overloading) impairs strength of the Brake Wheel and the Tyre, which could otherwise lead to explosive failure of the Tyre and deterioration of mechanical strength of wheel structure.

temperature of the Wheel Rim of a Brake Wheel rises up to the safe
metallurgical limits because of high energy emergency braking.

3. Background of Invention
· In a mission abort situation just before the instant to take-off, Brake
Wheels of an aircraft faces extreme high energy brake application to
reject the take-off. These extreme high energy braking may result
15 Wheel Rim temperature rise up to the safe metallurgical limits. Air
temperature inside the lyre also raises high beyond the safe lyre limits.
To avoid a catastrophic failure due to tyre burst a low melting point
eutectic alloy made Fus.ible lu is required to be installed on the

designed and developed to meet the above the requirements.
Present lnven~ion utilizes a low melting point eutectic alloy made
25 Fusible Insert, inserted in Fusible Plug Body designed for Brake Wheels
to be utilized for safe taxiing after extreme high energy brake
application during a rejected take-off situation for an aircraft.
4. Brief Summary of the Invention
30 In a Brake Wheel rim zone, three numbers of Fusible Plug Sub
Assembly are fitted. It is a consumable component replaced with new
component during crack detection check at every lyre change in Brake
Wheel. It is a safety device to release the hot air from the tyre in order
to prevent lyre burst. Brake Wheel Rim temperature raises during RTO/
