Abstract: The present invention provides a duct (100) comprising a central cavity (102) extending in the longitudinal direction; and at least one peripheral cavity (104) extending in the longitudinal direction provided in the wall (106) of the duct (100), wherein the peripheral cavity (104) is adapted to enclose at least one optical fiber (108). The optical fiber (108) embedded in the peripheral cavity (104) is capable of being used for detection of damage to the duct (100) in various applications, such as telecom optical networks power cable, etc. Fig. 1
