Description:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of surface treatment technologies. More specifically, the present invention relates to advanced printing and coating technologies.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The field of surface treatment technologies encompasses various methods and materials used to enhance the aesthetic and functional properties of substrates, ranging from metals and plastics to paper and textiles. Over the years, industries such as automotive, packaging, consumer electronics, telecommunication and fashion have increasingly sought innovative solutions to improve the appearance, durability, and performance of their products. One such method that has gained widespread use is the application of coatings or pigments to the surface of materials.
Among the various surface treatment techniques, those involving the transfer of decorative or functional coatings, such as foils and films, have become prominent due to their ability to produce high-quality finishes that are both visually appealing and durable. These coatings can be used for a variety of purposes, including enhancing the visual appeal of products, product specifications adding metallic or glossy effects, improving scratch resistance, or providing protective barriers.
One method widely used for such applications involves the transfer of pigments or metallic foils onto substrates. This process not only provides a cost-effective and efficient means of achieving high-quality surface finishes but also offers significant flexibility in terms of design and material compatibility. The ability to precisely control the transfer process, combined with the wide variety of available foils and pigments, has made this method a valuable tool across various industries.
US5736253A discloses a hot-stamping foil including a metallic layer carried on flexible carrier layer, and having a layer of heat-activated adhesive on the underside of the metallic layer and a layer of a lacquer composition coating the upper surface of the metallic layer, the lacquer being a blend of at least 50% by weight, based on the total dry weight of the lacquer composition, of a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride (SMA copolymer) with at least one other acrylic copolymer selected from polymethylmethacrylate copolymers, polyacrylic acid copolymers and styrene/acrylic acid copolymers. Such lacquers have an improved heat resistance.
WO2021039785A1 discloses a hot stamping foil to be hot-stamped on an object by applying heat and pressure, the hot stamping foil including: a sheet-like carrier; an optically variable device formed on the carrier; an anchor layer formed on the optically variable device; an adhesive layer formed on the anchor layer; and an anti-blocking layer formed on the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer contains a thermoplastic resin having a glass-transition temperature that is lower than normal temperature, and the anti-blocking layer contains a particulate plastic spacer mainly composed of polyethylene or a polyethylene copolymer.
However, despite the widespread adoption of these technologies, challenges remain in terms of improving the quality, consistency, and efficiency of the coating process. There is also a continued demand for advancements that enable new applications, enhance the durability of coatings, and expand the range of materials that can be treated effectively. Thus, innovation in the field of surface treatments and coating methods continues to play a critical role in meeting the evolving needs of industry and consumers.
This invention seeks to address these challenges by introducing novel methods and materials for the application of decorative and functional coatings, offering improved performance and greater versatility in a variety of applications.
