Prismatic Secondary Battery Having Improved Safety

Abstract: The disclosed invention relates to a prismatic secondary battery, and, according to one embodiment, comprises: a case of which at least one side forms an open surface; an electrode assembly stored inside the case through the open surface of the case; and a cap plate coupled so as to seal the open surface of the case and having positive and negative electrode terminals, the prismatic secondary battery having at least one of an upper insulator that integrally occupies the space between the cap plate and the upper surface of the electrode assembly and the space between the case and at least two opposite surfaces among the front, rear, left, and right surfaces of the electrode assembly, or a lower insulator that integrally occupies the space between the bottom surface of the case and the bottom surface of the electrode assembly and the space between the case and at least two opposite surfaces among the front, rear, left, and right surfaces of the electrode assembly.
