Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a lithium secondary battery comprising steps (1) to (5) below, and a lithium secondary battery manufactured thereby. (1) Step of preparing lithium composite transition metal oxide by mixing and then sintering a transition metal precursor and a lithium raw material, (2) Step of forming a cobalt coating layer on the lithium composite transition metal oxide, by mixing the lithium composite transition metal oxide and a cobalt-containing raw material and heat treating same at 550? to 700?, (3) Step of preparing a positive electrode active material comprising a boron coating layer, by mixing a boron-containing raw material and the lithium composite transition metal oxide having the cobalt coating layer formed thereon, and heat treating same at 400? to 500?, (4) Step of preparing a positive electrode by coating the positive electrode active material on a positive electrode current collector, and (5) Step of assembling the positive electrode, a negative electrode comprising a silicon-based negative electrode active material, and a separator, and injecting an electrolyte
