Abstract: The present invention pertains to: a positive electrode active material; a method for preparing same; and a positive electrode and a lithium secondary battery including same. The positive electrode active material comprises: a lithium-nickel-based oxide in the form of single particles consisting of a single nodule or quasi-single particles that are composites of at most 30 nodules; and Co-containing coatings in the form of islands formed on portions of the surfaces of the lithium-nickel-based oxide particles, wherein the intensity of the lithium-nickel-based oxide surface in contact with the coating, as measured by electron energy loss spectroscopy at 855.5 eV, is greater than the intensity at 853 eV in an Ni L3-edge spectrum.
