Abstract: This steel member has a predetermined chemical composition. In the steel member, when a position at a depth of 1/4 of the thickness in the thickness direction from the surface is defined as a 1/4 depth position, the maximum B content in a range from the surface to a depth of 10 µm in the thickness direction is 5 times or more of the B content at the 1/4 depth position. When the C content is measured from the surface in the thickness direction by using a GDS, and when the distance from the surface to a position where the C content first becomes equal to the C content at the 1/4 depth position is defined as a decarbonizing depth, the decarbonizing depth is 20 µm or more. The Vickers hardness at the 1/4 depth position is 310-890.
