Abstract: The present invention relates to negative active material, a method for preparing same, a negative electrode composition, a negative electrode comprising same for a lithium secondary battery, and a lithium secondary battery comprising the negative electrode. The negative active material is silicon-based active material and comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of SiO (x = 0) and SiO (0 < x < 2) and satisfies particular physical properties, the reaction conditions in the chemical method being controlled so as to generate silane gas, and thus lithium intercalation/deintercalation reactions are even when charging and discharging and the lifespan maintenance rate of the active material is improved due to reduced stress thereto and less particle breakage.
