COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
1
FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001]
The present disclosure relates to the field of cosmetics, in particular, a gel composition for cleansing keratin material, preferably skin. The present disclosure also relates to a process of preparing the composition and methods thereof.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION 5
[0002]
To achieve acne-free and radiant skin, an optimized cleansing contingent is always required. Delicate skin is highly sensitive to harsh soaps and surfactants with a high pH, which are very much prominent in basic cleansing products available in the market. Therefore, usage of such harsh cleansing products deteriorates sensitive and acne-prone skin over time.
[0003]
Although the available cleansing product claims their mild behaviour and deep 10 cleansing effect, they are loaded with the component which dries the skin. These components also lead to an unstable composition. Therefore, their storage stability and shelf-life are always a concern. It is difficult to retain their homogeneity throughout.
[0004]
The trend now moves towards gel-based cleansing products. However, the pitfall of such products is that they are generally light and, thus do not effectively remove oil, makeup, 15 sun filters, and external aggressors like pollutants, and dust. Also, these products lack sensorial or foamy feel as preferred by consumers in today’s market.
[0005]
Therefore, there is a need to develop a cleansing composition with a balanced combination of mild cleansing agents, which deeply purifies the skin without residual drying effects and has the desired product texture and stability. 20

Those skilled in the art will be aware that the present disclosure is subject to variations and modifications other than those specifically described. It is to be understood that the present disclosure includes all such variations and modifications. The disclosure also includes all such 25 steps, features, compositions, and compounds referred to or indicated in this specification, individually or collectively, and any and all combinations of any or more of such steps or features.
Definitions
[0013] For convenience, before further description of the present disclosure, certain terms 30 employed in the specification, and examples are delineated here. These definitions should be read in light of the remainder of the disclosure and understood as by a person of skill in the art. The terms used herein have the meanings recognized and known to those of skill in the art,
3
however,
for convenience and completeness, particular terms and their meanings are set forth below.
[0014] The articles “a”, “an” and “the” are used to refer to one or to more than one (i.e., to at least one) of the grammatical object of the article.
[0015] The terms “comprise” and “comprising” are used in the inclusive, open sense, meaning 5 that additional elements may be included. It is not intended to be construed as “consists of only”.
[0016] The term "at least one" is used to mean one or more and thus includes individual components as well as mixtures/combinations. Similar definition applies to the term “at least two” used herein. 10
[0017] Throughout this specification, unless the context requires otherwise the word “comprise”, and variations such as “comprises” and “comprising”, will be understood to imply the inclusion of a stated element or step or group of element or steps but not the exclusion of any other element or step or group of element or steps.
[0018] The term “including” is used to mean “including but not limited to”. “including” and 15 “including but not limited to” are used interchangeably.
[0019] The term “about” is used to mean an acceptable error range for the particular value as determined by one of ordinary skill in the art, which can depend in part on how the value is measured or determined, i.e., the limitations of the measurement system. For example, "about" can mean within 1 or more than 1 standard deviation, per the practice in the art. Where 20 particular values are described in the present disclosure, unless otherwise stated the term "about" meaning within an acceptable error range for the particular value should be assumed.
[0020] The term “auto foam product” is used to mean a product achieved by reducing the gelling agent in the gel composition. The viscosity is reduced by the reduction of the gelling agent and the liquid texture can be achieved. The term "auto foam product" also refers to a 25 product achieved by direct foam application for cleansing through in situ foam generated by pack mechanism in contact with the bulk / juice of the product. Bubble quality generated from auto foam cleanser are typically fine resilient texture like cushion. Auto-foam applicator pack and product can easily produce foam in good quality and relieve/reduce physical stress on the skin during cleansing. Auto-foam products are appreciated for their uniqueness and 30 convenience, the auto-generated foam also helps further cue a mild skin finish.
[0021]
The term “INCI” is an abbreviation of International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, which is a system of names provided by the International Nomenclature
4
Committee
of the Personal Care Products Council to identify cosmetic or personal care ingredients.

Example 2
Preliminary Observation
[0087]
The compositions as prepared in Example 1 were analyzed to determine its prototype scoping. The composition C1 showed a unique transparent foam like soap wash. It showed the 5 formation of fast foam with high foam density. It had mild and deep cleansing sensory behaviour for acne and brightening of skin, without making skin dry and tight. The face wash comprising the composition C1 gently purified acne skin and back without drying the skin. Thus, it was observed that the gel composition of the instant Application is suitable for all types of skin, foamable, stable, and transparent. 10
[0088]
The composition CP(1) wherein the only fatty acid included was lauric acid, appeared as thick creamy and thus the requirement of the transparent gel wash was not met. The composition CP(2), wherein no fatty acid was included, resulted in, non-transparent and non-gel watery liquid. The composition CP(3), wherein the amino-acid based surfactant was not included, resulted in loose foam with a longer settling time. The composition CP(4), wherein 15 the gelling agent was absent, the composition remained in non-gel state. Composition CP(5), wherein the non-ionic surfactant was absent, gave non-transparent and non-gel product and the composition CP(6) wherein the active agent such as niacinamide was absent, resulted in formulation out of pH and exfoliation. Similarly, the absence of other components, such as salicylic acid disturbed the pH causing skin irritantion. 20
[0089]
From the above, it was observed that the composition C1 prepared according to the present disclosure exhibited desired pH, stability, exfoliation property, foaming characteristics, sensorial aspects which could be attributed to the presence of essential ingredients, such as combination of fatty acids and combination of surfactants along with gelling agent in desired weight percentages. 25
Example 3 Temperature stability
Protocol
[0090] The composition C1 as prepared in Example 1 was analyzed to determine its stability when stored at varying temperatures. 30 19
Experimental
[0091]
The composition C1 was stored in a transparent bottle at 4oC, 25oC, 37oC and 45oC, for over a period of two months (2M).
Observations
[0092]
It was found that the composition C1 was stable and transparent at 25°C and 45°C. 5 However, the sample exposed to 4°C showed turbidity/precipitation. At room temperature (37°C), the composition remained transparent and colourless gel.
Results
[0093]
The composition C1 showed 2M stability at all conditions 4°C, 25°C, 37°C and 45°C. This stability could be extrapolated to 3 years and thus, the composition C1 was found to have 10 a longer shelf-life.
Example 4
Shine control
[0094] Shine control effect provided by the compositions C1, CP(1) and CP(2) were assessed using an instrumental test. 15
[0095] 17 healthy human volunteers with oily skin were recruited for the instrumental test to assess shine control effects. Skin gloss shine measurements were made using Lightcam before and after product application, in controlled conditions.
Protocol
[0096] Cleansing products tested: 500mg/half face of compositions C1, CP(1), and CP(2) 20 along with commercial skin brightening and, cleansing product (commercial product).
Lightcam measurement:
1)
The volunteers were instructed to wash their face with water and leave for acclimatization in standard conditions (Temperature :21±1 ℃; RH: 45±5%) for 30 mins. 25
2)
T-0 baseline measurement was obtained on Lightcam; with cheek and forehead as the zone of assessment.
3)
Product was applied as per randomization using a standard protocol.
4)
Volunteers were instructed to wait in standard condition for 10 min for the product to settle. 30 20
5)
T-imm measurement was obtained on Lightcam.
6)
The volunteers were instructed to wait in standard conditions for next 4 hrs and subsequent measurements such as T-30 min, T-1hour, and T-2hour were carried out.
Results
[0097] The reduction in gloss shine value from T0 base line measurement and respective time 5 point post application of the product is represented as a Δ value. The Δ values obtained for C(1), CP(1), CP(2), and the commercial product are summarized in Table 2.
