BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] In general, the automotive industry is known for its complex assembly processes, especially concerning the assembling of various components into the vehicle. A critical aspect of this assembly lies in the installation of glove boxes in the interior of vehicles, where multiple glove boxes may be assembled into the same vehicle. As the assembly lines of manufacturing plants take efficiency and accuracy in assembling vehicles as their priority. The assembly lines are to ensure that vehicles are assembled swiftly avoiding rejections after quality checks in the manufacturing plants.
[0004] However, challenges arise when assembly stations must accommodate multiple vehicle variations, including left-hand drive (LHD) and right-hand drive (RHD) configurations. One of the common issues that may arise at the assembly line is when different sets of locking rods (or latch rods) of distinct lengths are to be assembled into two or more glove boxes of distinct (internal) dimensions within the same vehicle. There may be a high likelihood that locking rods designed for smaller glove boxes may be incorrectly assembled onto larger glove boxes, resulting in improper assembling.
[0005] There is therefore a need to overcome the above drawbacks eliminate the above problems and provide a simple, easy-to-assemble, and improved system for assisting in assembling a pair of glove boxes of vehicle having two different hand drive directions, which prevents assembling components associated with one of the glove boxes into another glove box.

[0039] Accordingly, during the process of assembling the second locking rod 108 on or in the first glove box 102 as shown in FIGs. 4A and 4B, the first abutting element 110 and the second abutting element 112 abuts against each other, thereby preventing the assembling of the second locking rod 108 (meant for the second glove box 104) on or in the first glove box 102. However, as no abutting element is provided on the first linking rod 106, the first linking rod 106 can be easily arranged on or in the first glove box 102 without any restriction from the first abutting element provided 110 in the first glove box 102 as shown in FIG. 2A and 2B. Similarly, as no abutting element is provided on the wall of the second glove box 104, the second linking rod 108 (having the second abutting element 112) can be easily arranged on or in the second glove box 102 without any restriction as shown in FIG. 3A and 3B.
[0040] In addition (not shown), the length of the first linking rod 106 can be substantially greater than the length Y1 of the second glove box 104, which may prevent inserting or assembling of the first locking rod 106 (meant for the first glove box 102) on or in the second glove box 104 along the length of the second glove box 104.
[0041] In an embodiment, the first abutting element 110 can be one or more ribs that can be provided on an inner wall of the first glove box 102. Further, the second abutting element 112 can be one or more tabs protruding from the second locking rod 108 such that at least one rib of the one or more ribs may abut against at least one of the tabs during an attempt made to assemble the second locking rod 108 (meant for the second glove box 104) into the first glove box 102.
[0042] Referring to FIGs. 2A and 2B, the system 100 can include a first cam 114 that can be arranged in the first glove box 102. The first cam 114 can be connected to the first locking rod 106 in the first glove box 102 to facilitate the movement of the first locking rod 102 between a locked position and an unlocked position. A portion (also referred to as controller or knob) (not shown) of the first cam 114 can extend out of the first glove box 102 such that it remains accessible to users from the interior of the vehicle. The knob can allow the user to move the first locking rod 106 between the locked position and the unlocked position.
[0043] In an embodiment, the first locking rod 106 can be defined by a pair of first sections 106A, 106B, but is not limited to the like. The pair of first sections can include a first left section 106A and a first right section 106B. The first left section 106A and the first right section 106B can be attached to the first cam 114, such that the sections 106A, 106B may extend away from each other along the length of the first glove box 102. In addition, a locking member can be provided on one or both lateral ends of the first glove box 102. As illustrated, in an embodiment, non-adjacent ends of the first left section 106A and the first right section 106B of the first locking rod 106 can engage with locking members 102-1,102-2 (also referred to as a first left groove 102-1 and a first right groove 102-2) respectively, provided on both ends of the first glove box 102, to lock and unlock the first glove box 102.
[0044] It is to be appreciated that as no abutting element is provided on the first linking rod 106, the first linking rod 106 can be easily arranged on or in the first glove box 102 without any restriction from the first abutting element provided 110 in the first glove box 102.
[0045] The first left section 106A may have an end 106A-1 which may be attached to the first cam 114 and another end 106A-2 which may engage and lock with the first left groove 102-1 provided in the first glove box 102 upon movement of the first locking rod 106 to the locked position using the first cam 114. Further, the first right section 106B may have an end 106B-1 which may be attached to the first cam 114, and another end 106B-2 which may engage and lock with the first right groove 102-2 provided in the first glove box 102 upon movement of the first locking rod 106 to the locked position using the first cam 114.
[0046] Referring to FIGs. 3A and 3B, the system 100 can include a second cam 116 that can be arranged in the second glove box 104. The second cam 116 can be connected to the second locking rod in the second glove box 106 to facilitate the movement of the second locking rod 108 between a locked position and an unlocked position. A portion (also referred to as controller or knob) (not shown) of the second cam 116 can extend out of the second glove box 106 such that it remains accessible to users from the interior of the vehicle. The knob can allow the user to move the second locking rod 108 between the locked position and the unlocked position.
[0047] The second locking rod 108 of the system 100 may be defined by a pair of second sections 108A, 108B. The pair of second sections may include a second left section 108A and a second right section 108B. The second left section 108A and the second right section 108B can be attached to the second cam 115 such that the sections 108A, 108B may extend away from the other along the length of the second glove box 104. The second left section 108A and the second right section 108B of the second locking rod 108 can engage with second locking members 104-1,104-2 (also referred to as a second left groove 104-1 and a second right groove 104-2) respectively, provided on one or both ends of the second glove box 104, to lock and unlock the second glove box 104.
[0048] It is to be appreciated that as no abutting element is provided on the wall of the second glove box 104, the second linking rod 108 (having the second abutting element 112) can be easily arranged on or in the second glove box 102 without any restriction.
[0049] The second left section 108A may have an end 108A-1 that may be attached to the second cam 116 and another end 108A-2 that may engage and lock with the second left groove 104-1 provided in the second glove box 102 and/or on a dashboard of the vehicle upon movement of the second locking rod 106 to the locked position using the second cam 116. Further, the second right section 108B may have an end 108B-1 that may be attached to the second cam 114 and another end 108B-2 that may engage and lock a second right groove 104-2 provided in the second glove box 104 and/or on the dashboard upon movement of the second locking rod 108 to the locked position using the second cam 116.
[0050] Referring to FIGs. 4A and 4B, a pair of the first abutting element 110 (ribs) may be configured on the wall of the first glove box 102 on either side of the first cam 114 in the first glove box 102. In addition, a pair of the second abutting element 112 (tabs) may be configured on the second linking rod 108 on either side of the second cam 116. The second abutting element 112 (tabs) may be configured on the second locking rod 108 in the second glove box 104 such that at least one first abutting element 110 (ribs) of the first glove box 102 may abut against at least one of the second abutting element 112 (tabs) of the second locking rod 108 during an attempt to assemble the second locking rod 106 into the first glove box 102. This may prevent assembling of the second locking rod 108 (meant for the second glove box 104) on or in the first glove box 102. In addition (not shown), as the length of the first linking rod 106 is substantially greater than the length Y1 of the second glove box 104, the first locking rod 106 (meant for the first glove box 102) may be prevented from insertion or assembling on or in the second glove box 104 along the length of the second glove box 104
[0051] In an embodiment, both the first glove box 102 and the second glove box 104 may be arranged side by side on one of the sides in the interior of the vehicle.
