Lead Free Cutting Steel And Method Of Manufacturing Thereof

Abstract: “LEAD-FREE CUTTING STEEL AND A METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THEREOF” ABSTRACT The present disclosure provides a lead-free cutting steel and a method for manufacturing the lead-free cutting steel. The lead-free cutting steel includes an alloy composition in weight (wt%) percentage of carbon (C): 0.05% to 0.09%, manganese (Mn): 0.6% to 0.8%, silicon (Si) less than 0.05%, phosphorus (P): 0.00 % to 0.09%, Sulphur (S): 0.30% to 0.4%, chromium (Cr): 0.5% to 0.8%, nitrogen (N) less than 100ppm, oxygen (O) less than 0.012%. Further, the lead-free cutting steel is represented by, in area%, ferrite microstructure in the range of 80% to 90%, pearlite microstructure in the range of 5% to 10%, and inclusions in the range of 0 to 10%. The inclusions are globular is shape and includes S: 10% to about 25%, Cr: 4.0% max, Mn: 30% to 50%, and Fe 30% to 50%, and balance being the incidental impurities.
