A Method For Preparing Volatile Organic Content (Voc) Free Siloxane Coatings And Coated Substrates Thereof

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for preparing a VOC-free sol-gel siloxane coating composition. The method comprises preparing an organo-functional siloxane oligomer from silane precursor(s) such as amino-functional alkoxy silane, alkyl trialkoxysilane, or both. The obtained siloxane oligomer is diluted in acidified water to obtain the VOC-free sol-gel siloxane coating composition. In some embodiments, a pigment is added in the siloxane coating composition for producing coloured sol-gel coated product. The present disclosure also provides a method for preparing a coated metal substrate comprising applying the VOC-free sol-gel siloxane coating composition to the substrate followed by drying to obtain the coated metal substrate. The coating provides the metal substrate with improved corrosion protection, adhesiveness and surface smoothness.
