Description:A PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY FOR A VEHICLE
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present subject matter generally relates to a brake assembly for a vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to a parking assembly 5 comprising of various components which can be operated by a user of the vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Braking systems are an essential component of a vehicle, which 10 allows a user of the vehicle to securely park the vehicle in a stationary position. The parking brake systems are also used as emergency braking mechanisms in cases of brake failures or other emergencies. Some users also use the parking brake assembly to stabilise the vehicle while operating the same on the road with inclination and declination. 15
[0003] Conventionally, the parking brake assembly of a vehicle incorporates key components to enact the parking brake system seamlessly. Among these are the parking brake lever, cables, equalizer, parking brake shoes, brake drum or rotor, actuating mechanism, return springs, and a parking brake warning light/sensor. Each component plays a crucial role, with the parking 20 brake lever serving as the user interface, cables transmitting force, and the brake shoes engaging with the brake drum or rotor to secure the vehicle when parked. The equalizer ensures uniform force distribution in systems with multiple cables, and the return springs facilitate the disengagement of the parking brake when released. 25
[0004] However, a pivotal component in this intricate system is the connector, which acts as a critical link between the parking brake lever and the cables. When this connector is left unprotected from environmental conditions such as dust, water entry, and moisture, the parking cables become vulnerable to corrosion and damage. This susceptibility can result in malfunctions within 30 the parking brake system, compromising the safety and stability of the vehicle. Therefore, safeguarding this connector from external elements is
3
paramount to preserving the reliability and effectiveness of the parking assembly, ensuring optimal performance and safety in varying driving conditions. [0005] Furthermore, when the vehicle is moving on a road where the environmental conditions are such that water backsplash may affect the 5 connector of the brake assembly, it becomes more essential to the protect the brake assembly as this can increase the maintenance cost. This further adds to the downtime of the vehicle which, in cases of commercial vehicle can be further reducing the supposed earnings of the user from the commercial vehicle. 10
[0006] Similarly in vehicles such as three-wheeled vehicle, the parking brake assembly has been using a connection method where the parking cable is affixed to a lever on the outer side of the backplate assembly using a split pin. This approach, necessitated by the construction of the backplate assembly, inadvertently exposes the inner cable to the external environment. This 15 exposure to atmospheric conditions poses a significant challenge, allowing the ingress of dust and potentially compromising the cable's durability over time.
[0007] Thus, there is a need in the art for a method and a system for a parking brake assembly for a vehicle which addresses at least the aforementioned 20 problems and other problems of known art.
[0008] Further limitations and disadvantages of conventional and traditional approaches will become apparent to one of skill in the art, through comparison of described systems with some aspects of the present disclosure, as set forth in the remainder of the present application and with reference to 25 the drawings.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0009] The foregoing summary is illustrative only and is not intended to be in any way limiting. In addition to the illustrative aspects, embodiments, and 30 features described above, further aspects, embodiments, and features will
4
become apparent by reference to the drawings and the following detailed description.
