Back plate (1a) is optimized to ensure sufficient clearance with actuator bracket (2). 10 Fasteners (5) are provided to clamp actuator bracket (2) with brake assembly (1) and parking brake actuator (3). Cable guide plate (6) is provided to support and guide parking brake cable (3a) provided in electronic parking brake actuator (3), along a predefined path. Protective cap (9) is provided over electronic parking brake actuator (3) to protect component from external impacts.

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to the study of field of mechanics. Specifically, the present invention relates to Motor on drum brake assembly. More specifically, the present invention relates to the Motor on drum brake assembly with integral parking brake system. More particularly, the present invention relates to a novel Motor on drum brake assembly with electronic parking brake feature with fail-safe functionalities for automobiles.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
From the emergence of brake system, a drum brake is a brake that uses friction caused by a set of shoes or pads that press outward against a rotating cylinder-shaped part called a brake drum. Also, the term drum brake usually means a brake in which shoes press on the inner surface of the drum. When shoes press on the outside of the drum, it is usually called a clasp brake. Where the drum is pinched between two shoes, like a conventional disc brake, it is sometimes called a pinch drum brake, though such brakes are relatively rare. A related type called a band brake uses a flexible belt or "band" wrapping around the outside of a drum.

In general, a parking brake for a vehicle is used to stop the vehicle on the road or ground during parking and includes a foot brake and a hand brake. Typically, the hand brake is used in small vehicles and the foot brake is used in midsize and large vehicles.
In particular, as known in existing according to a conventional parking brake system, when a driver operates a parking lever provided in the vehicle, a parking cable pulls an operation lever of a rear drum brake and, at this time, a lining connected to the operating lever extends and presses a drum, thereby braking the wheels of the vehicle using a frictional force between the drum and the lining.
In more detail, according to the conventional parking brake system, when the parking cable is pulled by the parking lever, the operating lever attached to one lining in a drum brake is pulled in conjunction with the parking cable and, at this time, the lining extends from the center of the lining and comes into close contact with the friction surface of the drum, thereby parking the vehicle.
As such, according to the conventional parking brake system which provides the braking of the wheels by the operation of the parking lever, the driver should operate the parking lever by hand during each parking, which is inconvenient. Moreover, the driver may forget to operate the parking lever during parking, and thus the risk of safety accidents may increase.
There are few reports available in the literature about the existence of various types of drum brake assembly with parking brake.
US6799664B1 discloses a drum brake assembly, this invention is adapted to selectively frictionally engage a brake drum. The drum brake assembly includes a backing plate supported relative to a vehicle component and having at least three openings formed therethrough, at least one brake shoe supported on the backing plate for selective movement into frictional engagement with the brake drum, and a brake mechanism for selectively moving the brake shoe into frictional engagement with the brake drum. The drum brake assembly includes fasteners extending through openings provided in the backing plate to secure the backing plate to a fixed, non-rotatable component of the vehicle. The drum brake assembly further includes a member having a first portion operatively connected to the brake shoe and a second portion extending through another opening provided in the backing plate and secured to the fixed, non-rotatable component of the vehicle, wherein during application of the drum brake assembly the member is operative to transfer braking torque from the brake shoe to the non-rotatable component of the vehicle.
US20130087418A1 discloses a drum-integrated electric parking brake, the present invention also includes a drum brake in which a lining may be pivotally installed, and extends and presses a drum when a parking cable engaged with the lining may be pulled, an actuator selectively pulling the parking cable, a sensor member for detecting a rotation number of the actuator, and a controller for controlling the amount of current supplied to the actuator by detecting a change in the rotation number of the actuator.
WO2022078557A1 discloses an Electric drum brake module comprising an integrated operating brake and an integrated electric parking brake, this includes combined drum wheel brake module which comprises a brake holder (3) which can be rotationally fixed to a motor vehicle and has an abutment (5), with two brake shoes (6a, 6b) which are rotationally fixed opposite one another and which are radially outward in the direction of a brake drum, preferably in the form of a brake rotor (4) are arranged displaceably, and, for the purpose of brake actuation, at least one transmission means (1b) and/or articulation (7) as well as with two adjusting devices which are used as a hydraulic or as an electric service brake actuator (2, SBA) and as an electric parking brake actuator (1a , EPBA) are assembled, characterized in that the service brake actuator (2, SBA) and the electric parking brake actuator (1a, EPBA) are fixed next to one another on the brake holder (3).
CN109424677A discloses a brake assemblies with motor brake, this includes a kind of brake assemblies, include a) motor;B) reduction gear device;C) motor brake, the motor brake have (i) gear, (ii) electromagnet, (iii) pawl, (iv) bias unit;D) linear actuators is rotated to, is connected to reduction gear device for driving one or more Brake pads;Wherein, the pawl is monostable, so that the pawl is engaged with the gear when the motor brake is in bonding station, to prevent the gear and the motor rotation when the electromagnet is unexcited, and when the motor brake is in disengaged position, when the electromagnet is motivated, the pawl can be mobile far from the gear, so that the gear can rotate freely together with the motor; and wherein the bias unit promotes the pawl to engage with the gear.
Moreover, from the above cited literature it is clearly evident that the commercially available drum brake assembly with parking brake in the market have their own advantages.
Furthermore, the above-mentioned prior arts don’t provide sufficient details about the functioning and construction of the parking brake actuator and key components which lead to lack of potential, also few of the prior arts are provided with an inefficient and inconvenient designs which is not user-friendly, inefficient and leads to cumbersome usage.
To overcome the existing drawbacks and issues one solution is the introduction of Motor on drum brake assembly with electronic parking brake feature. This invention relates to the traditional knowledge of mechanical engineering, compliant mechanisms, and structural engineering. However, the present invention mainly focuses on designing and developing a Motor on drum brake assembly with electronic parking brake feature for automobiles. Hence, there exists an urgent need in the state of art to develop and design a novel Motor on drum brake assembly and with electronic parking brake actuator.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
The principal objective of the present invention is to develop a novel Motor on drum brake assembly with electronic parking brake feature.
Another objective of the present invention is to develop a Motor on drum brake assembly comprising actuator bracket with elliptical guide configuration in addition to mounting configuration, to enable fail safe operation of parking brake function.
Yet another objective of the present invention is to develop a Motor on drum brake assembly with continuously contact shifting cable guide mechanism.
Further another objective of the present invention is to utilize the developed drum brake motor assembly with parking brake system for automobiles.

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
Accordingly, the major aspect of the present invention discloses, a novel motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake feature, comprising:
a) a drum brake assembly (1), consisting of
b) back plate (1a);
c) an actuator bracket (2) with elliptical guide configuration;
d) an electronic parking brake actuator (3) with integral parking cable (3a);
e) fastener-A (4);
f) fastener-B (5);
g) cable guide plate (6);
h) parking brake lever (7);
i) lined shoe with parking brake lever (7a);
j) lined shoe without parking brake lever (7b), and
k) protective cap (8);

a drum brake assembly (1) with an electronic parking brake actuator (3), supported by an actuator bracket (2) an integral parking brake cable (3a) provided within electronic parking brake actuator (3),
electronic parking brake actuator (3) comprises an internal mechanism for facilitating parking brake function based on vehicle inputs; electronic parking brake actuator (3) being mounted to the actuator bracket (2) using fasteners-A (4); a face contact interface between the actuator bracket (2) and the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to prevent entry of external contaminants,

the actuator bracket (2) orients the electronic parking brake actuator (3) at an inclination with respect to the drum brake assembly (1); the actuator bracket (2) being mounted to a back plate (1a) within the drum brake assembly (1),
the profile of the back plate (1a) is optimized to ensure sufficient clearance with actuator bracket (2); the actuator bracket (2) having an elliptical profile, and an elliptical hole provided in the back plate (1a), which enables ease of component assembly and controls deflection of actuator bracket (2) during parking brake function in an assembled condition,
fastener – B (5) is positioned below the tip of cable guide plate (6) configured for clamping the actuator bracket (2) with brake assembly (1),
a cable guide plate (6) configured for secondary guidance to the parking brake cable (3a) provided within the electronic parking brake actuator (3), along a predefined path, and designed to shift a cable rubbing region by calculated deflection of cable guide plate, thereby enhancing the life of the parking brake cable (3a); to control excessive deflection of cable guide plate (6), fasteners (5) used to clamp actuator bracket (2) is positioned below tip of cable guide plate (6)

a protective cap (9) secured on electronic parking brake actuator (3) to protect the component from external impacts.

In an aspect, in the present invention, the fasteners-A (4) is fastener secured with bolt.

In an aspect, in the present invention, the fasteners – B (5) is fastener secured with bolt and nut arrangement.

In an aspect, in the present invention, the actuator bracket (2) comprises a mounting configuration which is rigid mounting arrangement by employing fasteners to attach the actuator bracket with the drum brake and electronic parking brake (EPB) are two of the features of the mounting configuration.

In an aspect, in the present invention, the features of actuator bracket comprise an elliptical guide feature which stops the bracket from rotating, a fail-safe feature that enables the parking brake function even if the mounting bolts are loose, and a face contact at the interface between the actuator bracket and mating components.

In another aspect, the present invention discloses a method of operation of motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake, comprising:

a) providing a protective cap (9) over the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to protect the component from external impacts,
b) sending an input signal from the vehicle to the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to activate the parking brake mechanism in the drum brake assembly based on the vehicle inputs,
c) pulling the parking brake cable (3a) within the electronic parking brake actuator (3) based on the input signal, which actuates the parking brake mechanism via a parking brake lever (7a),
d) resisting the reaction load from the electronic parking brake actuator (3) with the actuator bracket (2) when the parking brake load is applied,
e) releasing the load on the hand brake lever (7a) when the parking brake load is released by sending an input signal from the vehicle to the electronic parking brake actuator (3).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention as embodied by “MOTOR ON DRUM BRAKE ASSEMBLY WITH ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE AND OPERATION METHOD THEREOF” succinctly fulfils the above-mentioned need [s] in the art. The present invention has objective[s] arising as a result of the above-mentioned need[s], said objective[s] being enumerated hereinabove. In general, the present invention relates to the designing and conception modelling Motor on Drum brake assembly with electronic parking brake feature.
The present invention discloses a drum brake assembly (1) with electronic parking brake actuator, supported by actuator bracket (2). An integral parking brake cable (3a) is provided in electronic parking brake actuator (3). The electronic parking brake actuator (3) consists of internal mechanism, which aids in parking brake function based on vehicle inputs. The electronic parking brake actuator (3) is mounted to actuator bracket (2) using fasteners (4). Face contact is provided at interface of actuator bracket (2) and electronic parking brake actuator (3) to prevent entry of external contaminants. The actuator bracket orients the electronic parking brake actuator (3) at an inclination with drum brake assembly. The actuator bracket (2) is mounted to back plate (1a) in drum brake assembly (1). The profile of back plate (1a) is optimized to ensure sufficient clearance with actuator bracket (2). The actuator bracket (2) has an elliptical step profile, and an elliptical hole is provided in back plate (1a). This elliptical guide configuration ensures ease of component assembly and in assembled condition, it controls deflection of actuator bracket (2) during parking brake function. Fasteners (5) are provided to clamp actuator bracket (2) with brake assembly (1).
Cable guide plate (6) is provided to support & guide parking brake cable (3a) provided in electronic parking brake actuator (3), along a predefined path. The cable guide plate (6) is designed to shift cable rubbing region by calculated deflection of cable guide plate, during continual usage of parking brake mechanism. This enhances the life of parking brake cable(3a). To control excessive deflection of cable guide plate (6), the fasteners (5) used to clamp actuator bracket is positioned below the tip of cable guide plate (6).

Moreover, the present invention includes actuator bracket with elliptical guide configuration in addition to mounting configuration.
Firstly, actuator bracket with elliptical guide configuration comprises an elliptical guide feature, which is a failure – safe feature thereby enables the parking brake function even if mounting bolts are loosened. Also, this configuration arrests rotation of bracket and face contact is provided at the interface of actuator bracket & mating components, which aids in preventing entry of dust particles.
Secondly, mounting configuration in actuator bracket comprises of robust mounting arrangement, also encompasses fasteners which is utilized to mount the actuator bracket with electronic parking brake and drum brake.
Also, the present invention includes cable guide plate which provides a continuous shift in cable contact zone of cable guide plate during product function, thereby improving cable life.

In a preferred embodiment, the actuator bracket (2) comprises a mounting configuration which is strong mounting arrangement to employ fasteners to attach the actuator bracket with the drum brake and electronic parking brake (EPB) are two of the features of the mounting configuration.

In a preferred embodiment, the features of actuator bracket comprise an elliptical guide feature which stops the bracket from rotating, a fail-safe feature that activates the parking brake even if the mounting bolts are loose, and a face contact at the interface between the actuator bracket and mating components.

a) providing a protective cap (9) over the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to protect the component from external impacts,
b) sending an input signal from the vehicle to the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to activate the parking brake mechanism in the drum brake assembly based on the vehicle inputs,
c) pulling the parking brake cable (3a) within the electronic parking brake actuator (3) based on the input signal, which actuates the parking brake mechanism via a parking brake lever (7a),
d) resisting the reaction load from the electronic parking brake actuator (3) with the actuator bracket (2) when the parking brake load is applied,
e) releasing the load on the hand brake lever (7a) when the parking brake load is released by sending an input signal from the vehicle to the electronic parking brake actuator (3).

WORKING:
The present invention discloses working of Motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake feature, works via sending an input signal from the vehicle to the electronic parking brake actuator (3) based on the vehicle inputs to activate the parking brake mechanism in the drum brake assembly, pulling the parking brake cable (3a) within the electronic parking brake actuator (3) based on the input signal, which actuates the parking brake mechanism via a parking brake lever (7a), and resisting the reaction load from the electronic parking brake actuator (3) with the actuator bracket (2), provided with an elliptical guide configuration as fail-safe mechanism.

Advantages of the present invention:
? The major utility factor of the present invention is to enhance product safety by provision of elliptical groove configuration as fail-safe mechanism from disengagement of actuator bracket with back plate.
? Also enhances vibration resistance of product by robust mounting arrangement of actuator bracket clamped to backplate using fasteners.
? Robust cable guide plate design enhances cable life by calculated deflection of component, shifting cable contact zone.

wherein a drum brake assembly (1) with an electronic parking brake actuator (3), supported by an actuator bracket (2) an integral parking brake cable (3a) provided within electronic parking brake actuator (3),

wherein the profile of said back plate (1a) is optimized to ensure sufficient clearance with actuator bracket (2); the actuator bracket (2) having an elliptical profile, and an elliptical hole provided in said back plate (1a), which enables ease of component assembly and controls deflection of said actuator bracket (2) during parking brake function in an assembled condition,
wherein fastener – B (5) is positioned below the tip of cable guide plate (6) configured for clamping the actuator bracket (2) with brake assembly (1),
wherein a cable guide plate (6) configured for secondary guidance to the parking brake cable (3a) provided within the electronic parking brake actuator (3), along a predefined path, and designed to shift a cable rubbing region by calculated deflection of said cable guide plate, thereby enhancing the life of said parking brake cable (3a); to control excessive deflection of cable guide plate (6),
wherein a protective cap (9) secured on electronic parking brake actuator (3) to protect said component from external impacts.

2. The Motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake as claimed in claim 1, wherein fasteners-A (4) is fastener secured with bolt.

3. The Motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake as claimed in claim 1, wherein fasteners – B (5) is fastener secured with bolt and nut arrangement.

The Motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake as claimed in claim 1, wherein the actuator bracket (2) comprises a mounting configuration which is rigid mounting arrangement by employing fasteners to attach the actuator bracket with the drum brake and electronic parking brake (EPB) are two of the features of the mounting configuration.

The Motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake as claimed in claim 1, wherein the features of actuator bracket comprise an elliptical guide feature which stops the bracket from rotating, a fail-safe feature that enables the parking brake function even if the mounting bolts are loose, and a face contact at the interface between the actuator bracket and mating components.

6. A method of operation of motor on drum brake assembly (100) with electronic parking brake, comprising:
a) providing a protective cap (9) over the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to protect the component from external impacts,
b) sending an input signal from the vehicle to the electronic parking brake actuator (3) to activate the parking brake mechanism in the drum brake assembly based on the vehicle inputs,
c) pulling the parking brake cable (3a) within the electronic parking brake actuator (3) based on the input signal, which actuates the parking brake mechanism via a parking brake lever (7a),
d) resisting the reaction load from the electronic parking brake actuator (3) with the actuator bracket (2) when the parking brake load is applied,
