Specification

1. A panel (10) for a armoured vehicle protection or any structure of protection
like bunker, shield etc against ballistics comprising:
5 a back surface (1) proximate to body of structure to be protected and a front
surface (2) distant from body of the structure to be protected;
a multilayer structure (3) interposed between said back surface (1) and front
surface (2), said multilayer structure comprising at least one layer (6) of
ceramic material and at least one layer of elastomeric material (7) mutually
10 joined with at least one bonding adhesive and
a top surface (4) and a bottom surface (5) thickened with said elastomeric
material.
2. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
15 bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in claim 1 wherein, the
ceramic layer (6) comprises of plurality of hexagonal shaped tiles laying at
a gap (11) of ≤ 1.0mm of each other and linked with the elastomer material
in a manner to form a continuous ceramic layer.
20 3. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein shape of the panel is a replica of body of the structure to be
protected.
25 4. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein the ceramic layer comprises of reaction bonded silicon carbide
(RbSiC), Alumina ceramics (98-99.9%), zirconia toughened alumina,
sintered silicon carbide (sSiC), reaction bonded silicon carbide and boron
30 carbide composite Rb(SiC+B4C), reaction bonded boron carbide Rb-B4C
and hot pressed boron carbide (HP-B4C).

5. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein the elastomeric material includes any natural rubber or synthetic
5 rubber that retains elasticity upon hardening or any other polymer.
6. A panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein the panel (10) further comprises of at least one coat layer of a
10 moisture cured material and at least one paint layer after priming the panel.
7. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein the moisture cured material and paint is selected from at least one
15 of polyurethane and epoxy after priming the panel (10).
8. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein said panel is an add-on protection to an existing vehicle or any
20 structure of protection like bunker, shield etc.
9. The panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure of protection like
bunker, shield etc against ballistics as claimed in any of the preceding claims
wherein the back surface comprises of means for attaching the said panel
25 (10) to the vehicle or any structure of protection like bunker, shield etc in
which said means comprise of brackets, hinges, clips or holes for fastening
(8).
10. A process for assembling panel (10) for a armoured vehicle or any structure
30 of protection like bunker, shield etc as an add-on protection against ballistics
comprising the steps of –
16
f) laying ceramic tiles in an array at a gap of ≤ 1.0mm of each other and
pasting it onto a template of shape which is a replica of the structure to
be protected;
g) coating the front surface (2) of ceramic tiles with bonding material after
5 priming;
h) transferring the coated panel (10) to vulcanisation press for vulcanising
with an elastomeric material selected from any natural or synthetic
rubber resulting vulcanising the coated panel and within the gap of
ceramic tiles;
10 i) repeating step c) for the back surface
j) applying a coat layer of a moisture cured material and at least one paint
layer of at least one of polyurethane or epoxy.
