Abstract: Abstract The fixture is designed and manufactured for Installation of the turbine bearing the rear bearing suppon assembly. This fixture facilitates error free installation and centralisation of the bearing for entry of the shaft. In the fixture support base (1) is attached to centralising rod (2) which in turn supports the alignment disc (3) with help of support washer. Holding disc (4) is mouthed on the other side of the bearing and is held in position with help of holding nut (5). This arrangement facilitates assembly of the bearing onto the rear bearing support in flat position and maintains the flatness of bearing outer race face after installation and also keeps the rollers of the bearing in secured and aligned position for assembly of the shaft in the bearing.
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to manufacturing. repair, overhaul of Gas
Turbines. Fixture is for installation and alignment of beéring in rear bearing
housing.
3 Background of the Invention

Gas Turbines are usedjn Marine application to get the advantage of highpower
density with low foot print and weight. Gas Turbine assembly requires
critical control of clearances between rotating and stationary parts. One of
such component/ Assembly Gas Turbine where maintaining correct
concentricity and flatness is of prime importance is turbine bearing which
supports turbine shaft. Turbine end bearing is mounted inside rear bearing
housing which is structural member of turbine. Bearing housing will be pre
heated before mounting of bearing inside at bearing mounting location. Rear
bearing housing being a cylindrical structure, there is not enough space for
freely mounting the bearing inside. Hence, there was frequent problem of
bearing not seating properly in the location and flatness required is not
'achieved post installation. No of iterations were required to achieve proper
installation and alignment. Henée, there was a need of tool that eliminates
the need of multiple trials.
3.1 Prior Art

mounting of‘bearing inside at bearing mounting location. Rear bearing
housing being a cylindrical structure, there is not enough space for freely
mounting the bearing inside. Hence, there was frequent problem of bearing
not seating properly in the location and flatness required is not achieved post installation. No of iterations were required to achieve proper installation and
alignment.
4 Brief Summary of the Invention
Bearing housing is a cylinder like structure where at one end turbine bearing
will be installed and other end of it will connect to compressor outlet casing.
Bearing housing needs to be pre heated to install bearing. Rear bearing

Present fixture allows mounting of rear bearing housing on support base and
centralising rod. This restricts the movement of bearing housing during
bearing installation. Alignment disc is mounted on the centralising rod with
help of supp on washer. Alignment disc hold the bearing from inside and
centralises with centralising rod. Holding disc hold the rear bearing housing
from outside and is also mounted on centralising rod. Holding nut ‘keeps the
entire setup concentric with centralising rod and applies pressure for proper
bearing seating and improves flatness of bearing outer race after installation.
Following are the advantages of the present fixture.
1. It supports and centralises the bearing during installation hence minimises
deviation in flatness after installation.
2. It aligned the bearing during installation and facilitates easy installation of
turbine shaft in the bearing during final assembly of turbine‘
3. Simple design and easy to use.

1. A‘fixture designed and manufactured for installation and alignment
of the bearing in rear bearing housing of industrial gas turbine

a support base (1);
a centralizing rod (2);
a alignment disc (3);
a holding disc (4);
10 a holding nut with handle (5);
a support washer (6), characterized in that, support base (1) is
attached to centralizing rod (2) which in turn supports ihe alignment
disc (3) with help of support washer (6) and holding disc (4) is
mounted on the other side of the bearing and is held in position with
15 help of holding nut (5) to facilitates assembly of the bearing into the
rear bearing support in flat position and to maintain the flatness of
bearing outer race face after installation and also keeps the rollers
of the bearing in secured and aligned position for assembly of the
shaft in the bearing.
