Method And Composition For Recycled Paint From Vehicle Touch Up Process Sludge

Abstract: A method and composition for recycling paint sludge from vehicle touch-up processes is disclosed. The method includes collecting paint sludge, dewatering and drying it at 35 to 75°C, and then mixing with a solvent system and additional components to create a recycled paint. The solvent system is a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohols, while the additional components include a resin, pigments, and further aromatic hydrocarbons. The resultant paint product contains 60 to 70% paint sludge, solvent, binder, and pigment composition, providing necessary adhesion, durability, color properties, and opacity. It is suitable for secondary painting of industrial equipment and achieves specific viscosity, drying times, with minimal waste production. Fig.1

Specification

Description:PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHMENTS. , Claims:PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHMENTS.

We Claim:
1. A method for recycling paint sludge from vehicle touch-up processes, the
method comprising the steps of:
5 o collecting paint sludge generated from vehicle touch-up applications;
o dewatering and drying the collected paint sludge at a temperature range
from 35 to 75°C for a period between 1 and 72 hours;
o mixing the dewatered and dried paint sludge with a solvent system
comprising a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohols in a
10 proportion of 10 to 15% by weight of the paint sludge;
o further combining the paint sludge and solvent mixture with a third
component comprising a resin, a mixture of pigments, and additional
aromatic hydrocarbons in a proportion of 10 to 15% by weight of the
paint sludge to form a recycled paint suitable for secondary painting
15 processes.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the paint sludge is obtained specifically from a
Vehicle Touch-up Shop (VTS).
3. The method of claim 1, wherein the drying of the paint sludge is performed at
room temperature.
20 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the solvent system comprises 85-95% of a C9-
C11 aromatic hydrocarbon mixture and 5-15% of an ethylene glycol monoethyl
ether.
5. The method of claim 1, wherein the third component comprises an alkyd resin,
carbon black, titanium dioxide, barium sulfate, and a C8-C10 aromatic
25 hydrocarbon mixture.
6. The method of claim 1, wherein the recycled paint achieves a viscosity of 55-90
seconds and a surface dry time of 18 to 22 minutes, with a hard dry time of 20-
