DESC:TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present subject matter relates generally to a resting member, more particularly the invention relates to the resting member for supporting a saddle type vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Typically, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) tend to improve the fuel efficiency (milage) and overall performance of a vehicle. Importantly fuel efficiency can be increased by reducing a weight of the vehicle. More specifically, the weight includes an unstrung mass and a sprung mass of the vehicle. Designers in the OEMs are constantly seeking innovative solutions to reduce the weight of vehicles without compromising safety or performance of the vehicle.
[0003] It is observed that the vehicle is provided with a center and a side stand. The center stand and the side stand are provided to cater to the needs of the customers. However, providing both types of stands increases the weight and the mass of the vehicle. Further, both types of stands serve different purposes and have advantages and disadvantages as well. Advantages of the center stand is that it allows a user to comfortably do service such as changing tires and less chances of falling at a rest condition, etc. Further, some of the disadvantages of the center stand are parking in narrow space and difficult to put the vehicle if surface is friction less, etc. Similarly with the side stand it is difficult to service the vehicle, but it is easy and comfortable for a user to put the saddle type vehicle on rest using the side stand and the OEMs are bearing the cost of providing the sensor and switch for the side stand information which is also an additional cost which OEMs needs to bear.
[0004] It is known that elimination of at least one of the stands from the vehicle will reduce the unstrung mass of the vehicle and increase fuel efficiency. However, eliminating or removing the side stand poses a challenge of transferring the vehicle from an assembly area to a warehouse and from the warehouse to dealerships. Further, a major modification is required in the vehicle in which the vehicle is transported, also the modification is required to keep the vehicle in upright condition. Further, it is observed from the customers that customers prefer to park the vehicle using the side stand rather than the center stand. More specifically putting the weight of the vehicle on the center stand requires more effort, and it is observed that it increases the time of servicing the vehicle.
[0005] Therefore, there exist a need to provide a side stand for a saddle type vehicle, to solve above mentioned problems.
