Abstract: ABSTRACT A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HARDENING ON THE SEGMENT TEETH BY SELECTIVE WATER SPRAY QUENCHING METHOD The present invention relates to the hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method. The present water spray quenching method for at least four teeth without distortion during quenching by developing individual water brackets for the teeth`s and providing blocks to the segment edges. The stainless brackets (1) configured to the profile of the component with holes on each jacket. The invention includes sprockets, segments (2) teeth heating the segment in the furnace, transferring the segment from furnace to the fixture, unloading the segment on the quench brackets and spraying water using brackets. FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present invention relates to the field of water quenching method. The present invention in particular relates to a hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method.
DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART:
[002] During the quenching and tempering process of steel pipes, steel pipe products with important uses, such as oil well pipes, boiler pipes, etc., generally require quenching treatment in order to obtain ideal mechanical properties. Cooling, as a key link in quenching treatment, has an important impact on the production efficiency of steel pipe heat treatment, the quality of the final product and the economic benefits. By water quenching the seamless steel pipe, the hardness and wear resistance of the steel pipe can be improved; or the combination of quenching and tempering at different temperatures can greatly improve the toughness and fatigue strength of the steel pipe, thereby obtaining a steel pipe with better comprehensive mechanical properties.
[003] Among various quenching technologies for steel pipes, water as a quenching medium can reduce environmental pollution, reduce steel pipe costs, and improve pipe performance.
[004] The practical technology of overall water quenching of seamless steel pipes has been widely used in the quenching production of medium-carbon CrMo series steel pipes with strong hardenability. The main equipment is horizontal steel pipe quenching machine, water circulation system, etc. At present, the commonly used water quenching at home and abroad mainly includes four methods: immersion, immersion plus internal axial injection (i.e. internal spray and external immersion), external surface laminar injection and external surface laminar cooling plus internal axial injection (i.e. internal spray and external shower). Among them, the internal spray and external immersion and the internal spray and external shower have better cooling effects and are widely used.
[005] In terms of the improvement of water quenching technology, the focus is currently on the improvement of water quenching equipment. For example, the document "Design and Application of Water Quenching Equipment for Seamless Steel Pipes" (Xu Xianghong, Yang Likun, Zu Jiale, "Metallurgical Equipment", Issue 02, 2010) adopts the advanced "external shower + rotation + internal spray" quenching process at home and abroad, and has carried out a lot of structural transformation and technological innovation on the water quenching equipment, which effectively improved the precision and mechanical properties of the steel pipe and greatly reduced defects such as quenching cracks, bending, and ellipse.
[006] For the two water quenching methods of internal spraying and external immersion and internal spraying and external showering, the industry currently adopts the method of simultaneous internal and external cooling, that is, there is no system setting for manual control of the internal spraying time, external immersion (showering) time, and the action sequence between internal spraying and external immersion (showering), which has a great impact on the cracking of steel pipes after water quenching and the uneven hardness of the cross section.

[008] IN Publication No. 201928012540 relates to a spray quench system is provided with one or more spray quench rings that eject a controlled volume of spray onto a workpiece passing through the quench rings. The quench rings can be adjusted in position independently of each other relative to the workpiece being sprayed. Reflected spray guards may be provided to prevent spray interference between adjacent quench rings. The outlets of the quench rings may be adjustable in volume. A controller can be provided to optimize the distribution of quench cooling flows from the quench rings. Sets of quench rings with different diameters in each set may be provided in modular form.
[009] IN Publication No. 1433/MUM/2015 discloses a quenching process to enhance mechanical properties of wrought components and can also extendable to cast components – especially towards the core of component"s cross-sections. The process of the invention is a retarded quenching process for quenching of a steel alloy component, characterized in that said process comprises the steps of austenizing, soaking, air-cooling, followed a step of hardening by quenching in a liquid mixture of water, and polymer or oil. It has been a major challenge to attain superior mechanical properties while minimizing distortions and risk of quench-cracking by hardening heat treatment of components of complex shapes made from alloy steels, typically in automotive components such as front axle beam, steering knuckles, etc. which have varying thicknesses etc. The distortion or warping is caused by the volume changes associated with phase transformation and thermal gradient which may even lead to cracking. The present invention optimizes the mechanical properties and distortion compared to conventional quench of complex shape components.
[010] Publication No. CN103146901 discloses a water quenching method of steel pipes. The method comprises the following steps: firstly, cooling the inner surface of a steel pipe located in a water quenching system according to a set inner spray time delay duration, and then, simultaneously cooling the inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe to control the temperature difference of the inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe to be not larger than 30 DEG C, and stopping cooling the inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe when the temperature of the steel pipe is lower than a martensite transformation temperature. The method can be used for effectively controlling the cooling speeds of the inner and outer surfaces of the steel pipe, so as to reduce the water quenching cracking risk and shorten the section hardness difference.
[011] Publication No. CN104032113 relates to the invention relates to the technical field of thermal treatment on special-shaped steel tubes and particularly relates to a spray quenching method for a special-shaped steel tube. The spray quenching method comprises the following steps: directly transferring a rolled 950-1000-DEG C high-temperature special-shaped steel tube to the center of a cooling chamber, wherein the cooling chamber is internally provided with a uniform spray atomization device; starting the spray atomization device to enable water mist to be sprayed to the wall of an outer tube of the special-shaped steel tube; when the temperature of the special-shaped steel tube is reduced to 200-250 DEG C, finishing a spray quenching process to obtain the quenched special-shaped steel tube.
[012] Publication No. CN116875793 discloses a bearing quenching device and a quenching method thereof. The bearing quenching device comprises a box body, glass used for observation is embedded in the top of the front face of the box body, a groove is formed in the middle of the front face of the box body, and sliding grooves are formed in the inner walls of the two sides of the groove; a carrying plate used for bearing a bearing is slidably connected into the sliding groove, the middle of the carrying plate is in threaded connection with a bearing assembly, a plurality of holes used for water flowing are formed in the surface of the carrying plate, and a plurality of water outlet holes are formed in the tops of the inner walls of the two opposite sides of the box body. Spray heads used for spraying water for cooling are fixedly installed in the multiple water outlet holes, and an inclined plate used for guiding flow is fixedly connected to the bottom of the inner wall of the box body.
[013] Publication No. CN117106465 provides a coke dry quenching and pushing system and a coke dry quenching and pushing process, and belongs to the technical field of coke dry quenching technology, the coke dry quenching and pushing system comprises a coke receiving device, a coke pushing device, a coke tank, a dust collecting and cooling device and a dust removing station; coke is pushed into the coke tank through the coke pushing device, the dust collecting and cooling device is arranged on the coke tank to collect flue gas, cooling water mist is sprayed into the dust collecting and cooling device through the mist spraying pipeline to be mixed with high-temperature flue gas, the cooling water mist is rapidly evaporated in the flue gas, a large amount of heat of the flue gas is absorbed through water mist evaporation, and the high-temperature flue gas is cooled; water mist is jetted upwards through the spray pipeline to ensure that the water mist can be in full contact with flue gas, so that coke at the bottom of the coke tank is prevented from being soaked by the water mist, the good atomization effect of the coke receiving flue gas is ensured, no water drops are doped in the flue gas, equipment in a dust removal station is prevented from being damaged, and the requirements of a dry quenching safety production process are met. Downstream equipment is protected, and continuity of the coke dry quenching and coke pushing process of the heat recovery coke oven is guaranteed.

The installation base can do lifting motion relative to the air bellow frame, the driving module is installed on the installation base, the spray head set comprises a plurality of rotating spray heads arranged at intervals, the rotating spray heads are communicated with an external water pump, adjusting modules are rotationally assembled at water outlets of the rotating spray heads, and strip-shaped water spraying grooves are formed in the adjusting modules.

[023] Publication No. CN219059010 provides a smelting slag water quenching auxiliary device which comprises a water quenching pool, a feeding port is formed in the side wall of the water quenching pool and located on the upper portion of the water quenching pool, a plurality of air injection holes are formed in the side wall of the water quenching pool and located on the lower side of the feeding port, the air injection holes are connected with air injection branch pipes, and the air injection branch pipes are communicated with the water quenching pool. A main air injection pipe is arranged on one side of the water quenching pool and connected with branch air injection pipes, and spray heads are arranged on the lower sides of the air injection holes.
[024] Publication No. CN219099209 discloses a water quenching device for slag charge for smelting high-carbon ferrochrome which comprises a rectangular frame, the bottoms of corners of the rectangular frame are fixed with the top ends of support legs, a plurality of arc-shaped hollow rods are arranged in the rectangular frame, guide rods are arranged at two ends of each arc-shaped hollow rod, and two ends of each arc-shaped hollow rod are respectively connected with the corresponding guide rods in a sliding manner.

[027] Publication No. CN219964236 discloses a dry quenching waste gas dedusting and desulfurizing device which comprises a fixed box and a supporting seat, the supporting seat is fixedly connected outside the fixed box, a feed opening is fixedly connected to one side of the bottom end of the fixed box, a top cover is arranged at the top end of the fixed box, a first connecting seat is fixedly connected to the top end of the fixed box, and a second connecting seat is fixedly connected to the top end of the fixed box. The top end of the top cover is movably connected with a fixing bolt, the outer portion of the fixing bolt is movably connected with a locking nut, and the top end of the top cover is fixedly connected with an air inlet.

[031] Publication No. CN220393816 provides a spray quenching device for a three-way steel pipe, and relates to the technical field of steel pipe production and processing. The spray quenching device for the three-way steel pipe comprises a base, the top of the base is fixedly connected with a water containing frame, the top of the water containing frame is provided with an L-shaped plate, and the L-shaped plate is provided with a clamp device.
[032] Publication No. CN220564654 discloses an alloy slag water quenching treatment device which comprises a filter box and a water quenching box, the feeding assembly is arranged on the left side of the water quenching box; the material blocking assembly is arranged at the inner bottom of the water quenching box; the shaking filtering assembly is arranged in the filtering box; the water quenching mechanism comprises a water source conveying assembly, a rotating assembly and a water quenching assembly; the water quenching assembly comprises a rotating pipe, the bottom end of the rotating pipe fixedly communicates with a row of nozzles, and a driven gear is arranged on the outer surface of the top end of the rotating pipe.
[033] Publication No. CN220597571 relates to the technical field of quenching, in particular to quenching equipment which comprises a spray head, a water pump, a mounting frame and a quenching assembly, and the quenching assembly comprises a fixing plate, a high-frequency heating machine, a supporting rod, a cooling tank, a heating coil, a first air cylinder, two second air cylinders and a mounting plate; during quenching, the high-frequency heating machine is started to increase the temperature of the heating coil, then a to-be-quenched part is clamped through the second air cylinder, and the output end of the first air cylinder slowly ascends to enable the part to penetrate through the heating coil, so that the to-be-quenched part is heated, and the to-be-quenched part is cooled. In the process of penetrating through the heating coil, the water pump pumps out water cooling liquid in the cooling tank and sprays the water cooling liquid to the part, heating and cooling are carried out at the same time, and after the part is integrally quenched, the output end of the first air cylinder is recycled, so that the whole part is immersed into the cooling tank for secondary cooling.

[035] Publication No. CN220665377 discloses spray quenching hardening equipment for metal parts, which comprises a quenching box, an adjusting component is fixedly connected to the middle of the top of the quenching box, and the adjusting component comprises a motor fixedly connected to the middle of the top of the quenching box.
[036] Publication No. MX2023000442 relates to a device for water spray quenching, comprising ⿿ a quenching chamber, designed and set up to receive metallic workpieces, with a batch volume V0 of 0.045 to 3.5 m<3>; and ⿿ at least one atomiser, which is configured to atomise water in air or nitrogen and is fluidically connected to the quenching chamber; wherein the at least one atomiser and the device are designed and set up to generate a spray mist with a water content of 2.5 to 40 vol.% and a Sauter mean diameter of 20 to 2000 µm and also a spray mist flow through the batch volume V0 of 0.05 to 25 m<3>/s.
[037] Patent No. US2657698 relates to apparatus for use in the heat treating of metals, and more particularly' to apparatus that used for quenching Bar or tube stock as it emerges from a furnace in which it has been' heated. It is an object of the invention to provide apparatus which will' spray a solid sheet of water, or other quenching medium, over the entire surface of a piece of work as it leaves a furnace in which it has been heated. It is a further object of the invention to provide a quenching apparatus that is shaped to conform to the surface of a piece of work so that a sheet of quenching medium may be sprayed evenly over the entire surface of the work as it is passing from a furnace.
[038] Patent No. US3675908 disclosed herein an annular quench ring surrounding a coaxial, axially relatively moving pipe for spraying a cone-shaped pattern of quenching fluid inwardly thereagainst. A sleeve, also coaxial with the pipe, is disposed adjacent to the exit end of the quench ring in the direction of the apex of the cone-shaped spray, the sleeve being spaced radially outwardly of the pipe whereby a substantial portion of the fluid ricochets between the load and the inner surface of the sleeve throughout the length of the sleeve to increase the quenching effect.
[039] Patent No. US4152180 relates to a water spray quench process and apparatus for the hardening of steel agricultural discs and like articles with minimum warpage and maximum exposure to the quenching water. A steel article heated in a furnace to a temperature above its austenitizing temperature is moved horizontally into a quenching station, supported on several support pins below the article with a positioning member above the article, and sprayed with water from a series of nozzles both above and below the article to rapidly and effectively quench the article to a minimum temperature. Once the article has been cooled by the quenching water, it is expelled from the quench station.
[040] Patent No. US6656413 relates to a method and apparatus for quenching an elongated metal workpiece, such as a pipe, bar, tube, or the like, involves, moving the elongated metal workpiece to be quenched longitudinally through at least one rotating spray unit having a plurality of outlets disposed in a substantially even arrangement over an inner surface thereof through which sprays of quenching fluid are directed at the metal workpiece.
[041] The article entitled “Tesla patents aluminium “spray quench” process for molecular-level strengthening” by Nadine Bloxsome; aluminiumtoday; 4th June, 2020 talks about the multi-way spray nozzle system would cool extruded aluminium with an atomised spray of liquid. A system includes a billet die at a proximal end configured to accept a billet and form an extrudate, a quench chamber located adjacent to the billet die for receiving the extrudate and comprising at least one pulsed width modulation (PWM) atomising spray nozzle and a control module in communication with the at least one PWM atomising spray nozzle and configured to independently control a liquid pressure, a gas pressure, a spray frequency, a duty cycle and flow rate of each at least one PWM atomising spray nozzle,” reads the patent abstract. Tesla utilises a quenching process that involves cooling recently extruded aluminium alloys by soaking the parts in water. This process of quenching is recognized as “quick cooling.” While other cooling means are available, such as air cooling and furnace cooling, soaking the parts in water is the most time-effective method for automotive manufacturing.
[042] The article entitled “Selective Hardening process” by Abin Basil; slideshare.net; Apr 18, 2019 talks about the selective hardening process differentially heats and treats the surface of metal components to produce a hardened case. There are several selective hardening methods including flame hardening, induction hardening, laser hardening, and electron beam hardening. Flame hardening involves heating specific areas of a component with an oxy-acetylene flame above the critical temperature before quenching in water. Induction hardening uses an induction coil to pass high frequency current and heat just the surface of an irregular part before quenching. These selective hardening processes allow for hardening of specific zones on a component without changing the internal composition.

Rudnev; researchgate; January 2010 talks about the subtleties of spray quenching in induction surface hardening (case hardening) and selective hardening applications utilizing scanning and single-shot heating modes. Computer modeling provides the ability to predict how different factors may impact the transient and final heat-treating conditions of the workpiece and what must be accomplished in the design of the induction heating system to improve the effectiveness of the process and guarantee the desired results. One of the major features of computation of induction hardening processes deals with the specifics of modeling, i.e., both heating and quenching stages that can often be overlapped in time. Water or water-based polymers are the most popular types of quenchants used with induction hardening. Results of computer modeling of different induction hardening applications, using Inductoheat's proprietary finite element codes, are presented here as well.
[044] Thus there is no system and method which eliminates the distortion during water spray quenching and provides, uniform hardness and uniform hardening depth on the teeth.
[045] In order to overcome above listed prior art, the present invention aims to provide hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method which eliminates distortion during quenching.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[046] The principal object of the present invention is to provide a hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method.
[047] Another object of the present invention is to provide a water spray quenching method which eliminates distortion during quenching.
[048] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide uniform hardness on all the teeth and uniform hardening depth during water spray quenching.
[049] Still another object of the present invention is to eliminates cracks during water spray quenching.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[050] The present invention relates to the hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method. The present water spray quenching method for at least four teeth without distortion during quenching by developing individual water brackets for the teeth`s and providing blocks to the segment edges.
[051] The invention includes sprockets, segments teeth heating the segment in the furnace, transferring the segment from furnace to the fixture, unloading the segment on the quench brackets and spraying water using brackets.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
[057] The present invention provides a hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method. The present water spray quenching method for at least four teeth without distortion during quenching by developing individual water brackets (1) for the teeth`s and providing blocks to the segment edges. Fig 1 shows stainless brackets (1) configured to the profile of the component with holes on each jacket. The invention includes sprockets, segments (2) teeth heating the segment in the furnace, transferring the segment from furnace to the fixture, unloading the segment on the quench brackets and spraying water using brackets.
[058] Fig. 2 and 3 shows details of block. Water bracket is configured to the profile of the individual teeth.
[059] The are stainless steel plate size17 (3x50x100mm), 18 (3x50x100mm), 19 (3x45x75mm) and 20 (6x85x95mm) is used for fabrication to form bracket tube (21) Ø55x100mm (Inlet for quenching) and 22 Baffle (22) 3x45x75mm thick plates are used to guide and direct the flow of water for quenching and ensures uniform quenching and prevents vortex formation and enhance heat transfer. The thick plate (16) of (3x80x190mm) used in bracket fabrication.
[060] In the quench holes in the bracket Block (29) of 32x85x137mm, Plate (23) of (32x85x180) and plate (24) is of dimension (20x40x165).
[061] Present invention is applicable for segments with 4 or 5 teeths which can be hardened by water spray quench methods. The method includes following steps:
a) Step-1 Raw Material stage checked for distortion before loading into the furnace for Hadening.
b) Step-2 Sequence of processing from furnace unloding to spray quenching.
c) Step-3 After spray quenching checked for distortion, hardness and cracks.
[062] The components are heated with controlled temperature, transferring the hot component quickly to the quenching brackets. Water jet is sprayed with varying pressure, checked for distortion, hardness and cracks. The material used for spray quenching is Boron steel Grade.
[063] The invention eliminates distortion during water spray quenching and provides uniform hardness on all the teeth and uniform hardening depth. It eliminates cracks during water spray quenching.
[064] This invention is applicable only for sprocket teeth (5Teeths) where the component has the effect of selective hardening only on the teeth and the other part has the effect of Quench and temper.
[065] Usually during heating and spray quenching the component has tendency to distort the profile and dimensions in the component. This invention of selective water spray quenching method the component does not get distorted and maintains the profile and dimension of the component.
[066] This invention uses blocks and Brackets for spray quenching which prevents the distortion during quenching. No quenching rings are used in this invention. In Fig-4 Template is not matching with the profile (Teeth) and has distortion in the teeth and in Fig-5 the template is matching with the profile and has no distortion in the component.
[067] Thus the invention eliminates the distortion and maintains the dimensions during the process.
[068] Numerous modifications and adaptations of the system of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and thus it is intended by the appended claims to cover all such modifications and adaptations which fall within the true spirit and scope of this invention.
,CLAIMS:WE CLAIM:
1. A hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method comprises-
a) individual water brackets (1) for the teeth`s and providing blocks to the segment edges characterized in that stainless brackets (1) configured to the profile of the component with holes on each jacket.
b) sprockets, segments (2) teeth heating the segment in the furnace, transferring the segment from furnace to the fixture, unloading the segment on the quench brackets and spraying water using brackets.
2. The hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the hardening system is applicable for segments with 4 or 5 teeths which can be hardened by water spray quench methods.
3. The hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the system is applicable only for sprocket teeth (5Teeths) where the component has the effect of selective hardening only on the teeth and the other part has the effect of Quench and temper.
4. The hardening system and method on the segment teeth by selective water spray quenching method, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the no quenching rings are used and has no distortion in the component.
